I have been having a lot of GI problems lately. I have tried eating gluten free, eating a regular diet and eating no grains of any kind and I am still have trouble.

I have been off gluten for 1 week and off all other grains for 4 days. I am scheduled to have a blood test on Monday to test for Celiac's. I have read conflicting reports on the accuracy of the test and wonder if I should start eating gluten tonight and throughout the weekend before the blood test. Would that be enough time for antibodies to appear in my blood? I am not looking forward to the stomach pains and GI distress but I want to get an accurate result.

I would appreciate any insight that others can provide.

Yes you need to be actively consuming a regular gluten diet for the test to have any chance at being accurate. Even then false negatives do happen. The blood test is looking for the antibodies and if you are gluten light or gluten free you will not be producing enough antibodies for it to show up.

Thanks for the advice. I will eat wheat tonight, tomorrow and Monday morning. The blood test is in the afternoon. Hopefully, the blood test will be accurate.

      But you didn't answer my question. When you consume gluten, is there an identifiable reaction within a short period of time, say a few hours?

      I am only wondering why you would need to cut out rice? I've never heard of rice being any issue in those with DH.

      My mother has celiac disease and was diagnosed with Afib around 8 months ago. She's 81 and around 2 months ago had ablation therapy done, which is a very common procedure to treat this, and has been out of Afib 95% of the time since then. Apparently the full effects of this treatment don't kick in for 90 days, so the doctors expect her recovery to possibly reach 100%. Be sure to discuss this with your doctor.
