Ttg Of 8.6 In A Four Year Old?

chinook Newbie

Hello,

I've had a positive blood screening for celiac disease (TTG 42) and so I had my kids (both four years old) screened as well. My son's TTG was less than 1, but my daughter's was 8.6.

I can probably assume this is meaningful, right? I know that in adults anything over 10 is "suspicious".

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!

When my daughter was tested a few months ago (at the time she was 17 months), they told us that anything over 19 was considered positive for Celiac and that she had a reading of 200 something! I would check with your doctor to make sure, but they told us that 19 was the magic number.

i only had a 7, but TTG Iga is only ONE test of many you should be getting if you want a complete answer to the celiac dx

if someone is Iga Deficient, their TTG Iga will be a false negative or inconclusive.

Different labs perform the test differently . . . one limit does not apply to all. You have to look at what the limit was for your particular test at your particular lab. We've had labs done at two different locations. At one the limit was four and at the other the limit was 8. It's not that one lab is more strict or has lower limits, it's a matter of protocol, sample size, what have you.

Our lab results here are under 7 is normal, 8-19 weak positive, 20 - 30 positive. My daughter's results were 1260 and 1270. With your confirmed diagnosis, you might want to ask more questions about those results. Sounds like it might be early celiac. Depends on the lab's scale though.

Thanks to everyone for replying. Our lab lists 0-20 as "normal" and therefore lists DD's result as "negative". However I know that anything over 10 is considered suspicious. My Dad's result was 14 and he was positive on biopsy, mine was 42 and I'm awaiting my appointment with the GI specialist.

I'll follow up with the doctor this week. Thanks again.

I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep. This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I  get the shakes.I have to take the crappy stuff and get injected always more than 4 times always. Its infuriating

If you successfully digest gluten with enzyme supplements so it won’t give you side effects, your challenge won’t be worthwhile because the digested fragments of gluten also won’t stimulate antibody production or cause intestinal damage.

You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/
