Celiac And Ibs At Same Time?

I have IBS and usually after an attack of IBS-D, I would stop having coffee and dairy products, drink Gatoraid, eat rice, noodles, crackers, bread, etc. and I was fine in a day or two. But this go round, after having had either a very bad stomach virus or food poisoning, none of the above foods helped. I have been this way since early September. Recently I have found that if I stop eating the rice, noodles, crackers, and bread, I feel so much better. Now I am wondering if I have Celiac or wheat intolerance. I am going to the gastroenterologist this week. Is it possible to have IBS and Celiac at the same time? And if it turns out to be Celiac or wheat intolerance, and if a strict diet is adhered to, how long will it take to feel good all the time or is it like IBS where you feel good sometimes but then take two steps backward?

Many of us here have come to the conclusion that IBS stands for something different than Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

From the patient's perspective:

"It's Bull Sh*t."

From the Doctor's perspective:

"I've Been Stumped."

I, for one, agree. IBS is not a diagnosis, it is a label for symptoms when the doctors don't know the cause (and have probably not even considered celiac disease).

i agree! it's bs

if you want to figure out if you have a gluten intolerance- you need to ask a doctor to test you- and you need to be eating gluten regularly (like 4 pieces of bread a day for 6-8 weeks at least) if you want an accurate test.

thanks for the replies. I really do not want to continue eating gluten - because when I stop, I feel so much better - and the thought of eating gluten, and the after affects - yuck! I meet with the doctor tomorrow and see what he says.....

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
