Could My Little Guy Have Celiac?

Hi all,

I am Julie, Mom to Daniel who is 19 months old. Daniel has had runny poops and stinky gas since I can remember, really. Recently though, for the past few months we've experienced new symptoms:

eczema like rash on his body, sometimes worse than other times...sometimes red, sometimes raised and scratchy

bloody stools...but not bloody like he passed too big if a stool...more than that. Mostly his stools are coated in a slimy, what I could call mucusy substance...most often fruit punch colored. A few times, I've seen it yellow colored.

Frequent, almost CONSTANT pooping and/or gas

Stinky, stinky gas and poops

Eats CONSTANTLY...he is our little garbage disposal...like he is always hungry.

Went from 50th percentile down to 25 in only a few months

In the last few weeks, he's been up at around midnight screaming in pain. Seems like gas pain as he passes stinky gas a few times and I can hear his stomach rumbling

I told the pediatrician all about this and she had me take him off of dairy first...we did that...no big difference, really. Poops seemed a little less runny..but still bloody and mucousy.

She had me do a whole bunch of stool samples (boy was that fun) but I don't know what she tested for...I think some bacteria, lead, other stuff...I don't know. It was about 6 vials of poo...lucky mommy!

Now, since all of that was negative, she wants to do a blood panel, which we did today. Again, I don't know exactly WHAT tests we are performing. I went in there unprepared...this is my easy kid...I have one with Turner Syndrome (and luckily, she doesn't have celiac!)...so I just don't know WHAT to expect.

So, what am I looking for in the blood tests, what tests do I need to make sure that the doctor ordered? What test will tell us for sure that this poor little guy does or does not have celiac?

Also, on a side note, his father has chronic diahhrea (sp?). He says he has NEVER had a solid poop in his whole life. He is always running to the bathroom...even in the middle of the night. Poor guy. He is overweight though...but his belly is often hard and distended. So now I'm wondering if HE has it!

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Take Care,

Julie

Poor little guy (and big guy). Whatever the test results show, you can always try changing his (their) diet, starting with gluten, to see if it helps.

Something is not agreeing with him. Just know that even if a test for celiac comes out negative, he could still have it. If they can't find a cause, try eliminating gluten and see what happens. Could luck. Poor kid.

Thanks, you two.

We are taking him off of gluten TODAY. We are lucky, he'll eat just about anything. I can't even sweep the floor with him awake becasue he will follow me around trying to eat the food out of the piles I sweep up.

Does anyone know, do we still keep dairy out of his diet, too...or can we add that back in, since it didn't seem to make any difference?

Take Care,

Julie

But M&M's contain milk, and would not be at all like a Tootsie Roll.

I appreciate you validating me because medical is an issue and it's not ok at all they they do this. Some days I just want to call the news media and just call out these doctors especially when they are supposed to be specialist Downplaying when gluten-free when they should know gluten-free is false negative. Now dealing with other issues and still crickets for disability because I show no signs of celiac BECAUSE IM GLUTENFREE! Actively dealing with sibo and skin issues.Depression is the key because thats all they know, im depressed because medical has caused it because of my celiac and related issues. I should have never ever been employed as a bus driver. After 3 years still healing and ZERO income desperately trying to get better but no careteam for celiac other than stay away frim wheat! Now im having care because my head is affected either ms or meningioma in go in tomorrow again for more scans.I know im slowly dying and im looking like a disability chaser

M&M Peanuts. About the same calories and sugar while M&M Peanuts have fiber, potassium, iron and protein that Tootsie Rolls ("We are currently producing more than 50 million Tootsie Rolls each day.") don't. Click the links to compare nutritional values.  Both are made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup.  I use them as a gluten free substitute for a peanut butter sandwich.  Try her on grass fed, pasture fed milk. While I get heartburn at night from commercial dairy milk, I do not from 'grassmilk'.

I see it everyday on my feeds.  They go out and buy gluten-free processed products and wonder why they can't heal their guts.  I don't think they take it as a serious immune disease. They pick up things off the internet which is so far out in left field.  Some days I would just like to scream.  So much better when we had support groups and being able to teach them properly. I just had an EMA blood test because I haven't had one since my Doctor moved away.  Got test results today, doctor ordered a D3 vitamin test.  Now you know what  type of doctors we have.  Now I will have to pay for this test because she just tested my D3 end of December, and still have no idea about my EMA.
