I'd just like to mention a celiac-friendly allergist for anyone looking for one in or near Tucson, AZ

Dr. Min, with Alvernon Allergy

This guy is really, really great. He is not a celiac expert, but I still would recommend him to any celiacs I know.

1. He listens to everything you have to say, all your medical history, and actually asks questions that show he's not only listening, but processing everything you've said so he can figure out how it might be affecting your allergies. If he doesn't know something, you can tell he's going to be looking it up.

2. He's honest, and will tell you what he does and doesn't know flat out.

3. He works with you. In other words, if you tell him an idea about what might be wrong (since a lot of us have been trying to figure it out for a while now), he'll listen, often take notes, and give you some ideas about how that may or may not be an issue.

As an example of how he operates:

I went into his office for the first time underweight, with an extremely limited diet because I reacted to foods right and left. He was honest and said he thought he could help with some of them, but some of them were baffling him and he wasn't sure what they were, but he'd be willing to work with me to figure it out.

We got some answers, and then before the next appointment, I figured out that most of my other issues were actually minute traces of gluten, because I was more sensitive to it than most.

The next time we meet, I am a little tentative, letting him know that I think might have figured out the problem. His response is: that's wonderful! What did you discover?

And he takes notes on what I've been noticing about my body, takes some new weight measurements on me because I've finally gained weight again and he wants to document my improvement on the diet I'd been following due to my own research, and even asks for the names of places where I got some of my information that helped me figure out what was going on.

The man is just the perfect person for someone who has more than one issue, because you really know that he's not going to let it be overlooked by ignoring it, or ignoring you. I highly recommend him. :)

I agree with @trents and wiping down the spot you eat your lunch, and eating the food your brought from home should be safe for even sensitive celiacs. Gluten can jump on your food, so it would likely better better for you to continue eating where you prefer.

I would think that as long as you keep your food on a wrapper or on a paper plate you would not be at risk for cross contamination. You may be overthinking it all which is common for those in the first year of the celiac journey. But let me ask you. Are you feeling self-conscious about having a celiac diagnosis? I notice the term "isolated" in your thread title. Do you fear being shunned? I offer this video clip for your consideration:

I’m worried about cross contamination, as people don’t clear up properly. I take my own lunch in a packed lunch box with my own cutlery, plate etc and wash it all at home everyday rather than using the schools communal options. There is always crumbs or food left out for us to share on tables etc.

Welcome to the forum, @Tanya177! Help us understand why you don't eat with the other staff members at the present time. I'm assuming you already pack your own lunch rather than eating school cafeteria food. Surely there are other staffers who bring their own lunches. How would this be different if you did not have celiac disease?
