Jaw Tightness...ahhh!

I was diagnosed with Celiac disease about 4 months ago. I went totally gluten free and have been sooo careful about CC and everything...still wasn't feeling any better. Then about 1 month ago I got a stomach bug :P Since then I have felt even worse. And last week the most annoying thing started happening to me. I started getting this weird tightness across my whole lower jaw, mostly on the sides. It won't go away no matter what I do. It's not painful or anything, just annoying. The weird thing is, when I wake up, it starts, then doesn't stop til I can get to sleep at night. The only way I can make it go away is by eating, and it only goes away for a little while. Obviously I can't eat 24/7 so I have been chewing a lot of gum, which helps a little but i have no idea what to do. Please help!!!!

do u maybe have some TMJ?? i have it a little- and chewing gum aggrevated it BIG TIME... i rarely chew gum now.

the only thing to do for it really is learn to relax and unlearn the clenching of your jaw. massage can help- actually when a therapist diggs into my traps and occipitals-> sometimes that releases my jaw (cause everything is connected). and then , there's a mouthguard that a dentist can make for u

Look into the possibility of TMJ. I rarely chew gum, because it really does aggravate TMJ. I have actually dislocated my jaw. Seriously I had to have it "popped" back into place. That really sets a girl up for a lot of jokes.;)

Talk to your dentist. I clench my jaws at night. I wonder if I trained myself to do this so that I wouldn't drool on my pillow :P . Like a previous poster said, I am actively trying to relax my jaws at night. I do have a mouth guard that I wear at night also.

In addition, I had a really bad spell about this time last year and was put on a muscle relaxer for a while which helped. I have noticed a pattern in that my jaw pain/soreness/tightness has returned again this year. I have always had teeth pain when I have sinus issues. Sometimes I have teeth pain and no active sinus drainage but I get relief still treating my sinuses . . . right now I've been taking a daily allergy med and it is helping my teeth/jaws. I've decided based on last years issues and the return of symptoms at the same time this year that I've got some kind of allergy.

Ok I will look into that! Thanks so much!

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
