Another Question About Coffee's

I did a search on this topic as I always do before posting and found conflicting information. Is 100% ground DECAF coffee gluten free? I have recently started drinking coffee again. I have been drinking regular coffee but I am finding that it is causing me stomach pain, intense bladder pain and gas cramps. I am thinking decaf may be better but I need to know if it is gluten free. From what I read in old posts, I can't come to a conclusion.

Thanks

Plain coffee, whether decaffeinated or regular, is gluten-free. If a flavor is added, is is possible that the flavor may contain gluten (although not common).

Also, instant coffee might not be gluten free.

Coffee is hard on the stomach (actual stomach.) You might want to drink less for a bit, or substitute with tea. I've had a few times where my stomach was clearly not okay with coffee (but it definitely wasn't a celiac reaction)--I just gave it up for a few days and then drank it in moderation.

According to Shelley Case, regular and instant coffee are both gluten-free, with the exception noted above for flavored coffee.

Thank you both!

Just called up Community Coffee since I got a free cup of something flavored, and the rep told me without hesitation that all their flavored coffee is gluten free. Hope this helps someone!

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
