I've Been Glutened

Hi,

I believe I have been glutened three times in this past week. I am so disgusted with myself. I ate Chinese Food twice - didn't even think about soy sauce - we were on vacation and having just too much fun. Then the other day I ate a Wendy's grilled chicken breast that is injected with soy sauce.

So the last few days I have had horrible abdominal pain, gas and cramping. I am extremely tired and not motivated to do anything.

But this morning, I am feeling just a touch better.

Does this sound normal to you guys. I hate going to the doc, they are gonna run a bunch of tests and say nothing is wrong with me.

Yes, you sound very normal for a person with celiac disease. :)

I hope you are feeling better soon ~ this too shall pass!! :)

That sounds just like a classic celiac reaction to gluten. Hope you feel better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

KaitiUSA Enthusiast

Definitely sounds like a normal kind of reaction. Hopefully the reaction will go away soon

Reactions can run a week or two. If you're worried about other things, sure, check with your doctor, but other wise... sounds fairly "normal". :-(

Sounds normal to me! I hope you feel better soon. I've had a horrible week too- got glutened evry day and could not for the life of me figure out what was going on. I am house/dogsitting and it turned out the dog treats were full of gluten. I was washing my hands but somehow it wasn't enough. Hang in there. Beverly

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
