We went to Costco yesterday and I bought a huge jar of Kikland Organic Strawberry spread. I looked over the entire label and the ingredients look fine but there's nothing on the label that says gluten free, I thought all kirkland's gluten free products stated that they were. It doesn't have any allergy warnings or anything. Is it ok?

Take it from someone who actually supplies Costco with food items. Some of the more successful Kirkland brand items have been in the buildings for years (some instances DECADES). They approved the artwork that long ago... before there was so much attention on gluten intolerant and celiacs like us. My guess is that is the reason why it's not labeled gluten-free even though the ingredients suggest that it is, in fact, gluten free.

Please also note that we Costco vendors are required to pay a third party audit corporation to actually come to our plants. Having a Kirkland item means that you are totally under the microscope and for good reason... it maintains the high standards that Costco requires from their suppliers.

With that said, I am confident that the product is indeed gluten free. If you want to be safe, feel free to contact them with this link:

Make sure that you have the item number on hand (Every Costco sell unit has an item number).

Keep us posted on what you find.

Thank you! I was just being very cautious since I've already reacted to a couple other brands of fruit spread and the companies have yet to email me back. I went ahead and tried this one today and so far so good, a few trips to the bathroom but that's probably just the fiber :P No gassy feeling which is usually a sure sign for me. Thanks so much for your quick reply!

No problem. Costco is TOPS when it comes to customer service. In the future, if you have questions, feel free to call their 800 number (1-800-774-2678) and they will answer any and all questions.

Just make sure that you look above the UPC code and provide the person with the actual item number.

I called, and spoke the Costco customer support. They confirmed that the Kirkland Organic Strawberry Spread is Gluten-Free.

I asked if they had a list of Gluten Free products, like Trader Joe's does.

www.traderjoes.com/pdf/lists/list-no-gluten.pdf

They said no. I then submitted in a formal request for that.

If EVERYONE who is a Costco member takes the time to request that they have a printed or online list of all their Gluten Free products it may spur them to do it.

This is an old thread.

Posting a link address with highlighting makes it very difficult for anyone wanting to access the referenced material. Here is a clickable version: Open Original Shared Link

Yes.  Now, if you hit your finger with a hammer once, wouldn't you do your best not to do it again?  You have identified a direct connection between gluten and pain.  Gluten is your hammer.  Now you have to decide if you need a medical diagnosis.  Some countries have aid benefits tgat you can get if you have the diagnosis, but you must continue eating a gluten-normal diet while pursuing the diagnosis. Otherwise the only reason to continue eating gluten is social. There are over 200 symptoms that could be a result of celiac disease.. Celiac Disease and Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity  both cause multiple vitamin and mineral deficiency.  Dealing with that should help your recovery, even while eating gluten.  Phosphatidyl Choline supplements can help your gut if digesting fats is a problem,  Consider that any medications you take could be causing some of the symptoms, aside from gluten.

Welcome to the forum, @Ben98! If you have been consciously or unconsciously avoiding gluten because of the discomfort it produces then it is likely that your blood antibody testing for celiac disease has been rendered invalid. Valid testing requires regular consumption of generous amounts of gluten. The other strong possibility is that you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease but does not have the autoimmune component and thus does not damage the small bowel lining. It is 10x mor common than celiac disease. There is currently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Some experts in the field believe it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Having one or both of the primary genes for developing celiac disease does not imply that you will develop active celiac disease. It simply establishes the potential for it. About 40% of the population has the genetic potential but only about 1% develop active celiac disease.

TTG blood test and total IGA tested on many occasions which have always remained normal, upper GI pain under my ribs since 2022. I had an endoscopy in 2023 which showed moderate gastritis. no biopsy’s were taken unfortunately. genetic test was positive for HLADQ2. extreme bloating after eating gluten, it’ll feel like I’ve got bricks in my stomach so uncomfortably full. the pain is like a dull ache under the upper left almost like a stitch feeling after a long walk. I am just wanting some advice has anyone here experienced gastritis with a gluten issue before? thank you

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.

That's great news, you can do this.  Let us know how things go and don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions. Cristiana 😊
