Are there any concerns if someone goes gluten-free while taking anti-depressants? How does going gluten-free affect the way anti-depressants work in the body?

The only concern I can see is that if you are Celiac and not absorbing them very well due to damage in your intestines, you will start absorbing them VERY well on going gluten free. I had this happen. My anti-depressants were increased to unbelievable doses due to unresponsive depression, (the Dr.'s were raising their eyebrows at the maximum doeses not working) then when I went gluten free, I had a reaction to the medicine. It is called Seratonin Syndrome...read up on it and watch for the effects. Very scary episode. Off all anti-depressants now and don't need them. You raise a good point because once you start absorbing things better this includes all medications you are on. I don't think this would happen if you are gluten intolerant, but I am not certain.

      Thanks rmj when I first rang up it was we can't do it without , but I talked to a lovely lady and she sorted it all out for me, so it pays to be persistent , I would have had to decline if I hadn't been given the water option too , so yes I'm glad too 😌

      Had my MRI today I didn't have to have the manitol with my allergy's , I just had a litre of water , they were great with my concerns , so let's see if anything comes of if will keep posted once I have results 👍

      Thank you ,it’s been a long road for me for having both now ,what upsets the most is that if they discovered that I also have cealiac earlier I would not have injested gluten if I was aware. Double whammy.
