Is This Fatigue Related To Having Been Glutened?

It has been over a week (7-10) since I stupidly had gluten, but not just a tiny bit. So I knew that it would be bad...

I understand all the digestive consequences (when will that stop?) but the fatigue? Is it related? I am getting more sleep right now, b/c I have to, and even taking short naps, which is unlike me. I CAN'T keep my eyes open and can't do the normal amount of excercise I normally do. I got sooo much sleep last night and 4 hours later I can't stay awake. It doesn't feel like normal tired (which I usually am b/c I normally don't sleep enough). I feel like it totally takes over and I can't fight it....

Help! Is this normal? Anything I can do?

Thanks,

Liatt

Fatigue is the most common symptom. I know how you feel!! I was always tired at one point...I think thats all I did.

My reactions last a good 2 weeks but it varies from person to person.

Yes, fatigue is a very common and normal symptom. Fatigue and lack of energy are two of the many symptoms that I get. My reactions also last for about 2 weeks, the fatigue usually stays longer though <_<

Liatt-

How long have you been gluten-free? Is there any chance you could be eating contaminated food?

Jen--

I have been gluten-free for about 3 months, maybe more. I stopped eating wheat in Dec and slowly started avoiding gluten, since the wheat free diet didn't help. Around 3 months ago i stopped eating gluten. Every once in a while I find something that I didn't think to look at, like shampoo, but that happens very rarely at this point.

At those times I reacted, but it wasn't so severe b/c the amount was so small. A week and a half ago I made a huge, stupid mistake and had a lot of gluten (a lot considering I usually have none--and it was pasta  ), so this time it's pretty bad. It almost feels worse then the chronic symptoms I had before going gluten-free. On second thought...

Hurrah for an official diagnosis!   You may want to put the whole family on gluten free, as a preventative measure for the ones not testing positive right now.  Remember, exposure to gluten triggers the Celiac genes your kids have inherited from you.  Keeping them gluten free now, even though they don't test positive right now, can delay triggering Celiac Disease development in them.

@annirosex, Get your Vitamin D level checked.  Low Vitamin D can mess up menstrual cycles.  Vitamin D at healthy levels (80-100) acts as a hormone and regulates your immune system.  Thiamine Vitamin B 1 is needed to activate Vitamin D, so adding thiamine in the form Benfotiamine would be beneficial.

Thank you! I saw a different provider this week who took one look at all my medical information and declared it was celiac in the first 5 minutes of the appointment. I am still a bit in shock but so very thankful to have an official diagnosis. The doctor told me to have my children tested and one of them came back with a "weak positive" TTG IgA! Not sure what to think about that! This week has been a wild ride. Thankfully this website has such great information! I've been going through all the do's and don't's of cross contact etc.

Good job! Brave astronaut! The other B vitamins can be stored in the body longer than thiamine.  You won't mess them up.

I took my first 100 mg this morning. Let's see what happens. Still a bit nervous of messing up my other B vitamins since I don't have a B complex at the moment. Thanks for your replies Knitty Kitty!
