I got diagnosed3 months ago. How urgent is it to get them tested. 6 yr old is always hungry and very strong willed stubborn, not sure if it is moody. But her strong personality stands out. 7 yr old son reacts to sugar and food dye. He is hyper quite often and hungry a lot too. In my gut I think 6 yr old has it because of the extreme hunger and very strong personality, I don't know. Sometimes moody. She is always in a frenzy for the next thing to eat. She's been this way since age 3. Do I call the ped of an apt and discuss it with him? What is the urgency or can I wait? Not sure. I feel like I'm poisening them with bread since I don't know.

I would get them tested as soon as possible. School physicals are due soon too. Parent guilt over the frustration of the situation would be over too. You can all go gluten free together. (You'll bond like you never imagined.)

I had my two boys tested about a month after I was diagnosed and both were negative on blood work. Oldest boy(10.5) has been tested two more times. Youngest son(6.5) was tested again last Nov. (it was two yrs since his first test) and he had a positive Iga ttg. I declined a gi consult and scope on him. He has been gluten free since. Oldest son has consistently had negative blood work. His new allergist is highly suspect that he is still at least gluten intolerent. He feels strongly because of some of his past symptoms and his brother and I having celiac. He has a gi consult the end of this month and I and going to urge for them to do a scope/biopsy. Of course if it comes back positive then gluten free for good. If negative then I will trial him a good three months gluten free then challenge him. I strongly feel he needs to be gluten free.

I heard from one of the top specialist in my city that parents should start screening their little ones by the age of 6.

I just had my 18 & 6 year old boys tested. My 19 year old daughter has yet to test. Still waiting for results but I would definitely test the kids. Just my opinion.

Considering that this disease attacks the intestine and can make kids feel very poorly, I would get your kids tested asap. My daughter is celiac disease and now I'm awaiting the boys results, they're 3 and 7 my daughter is 9. Both my hubby and I tested neg with bloodwork.

My boys are extremely small. My 6 year old is shorter than a 3 year old. My 9 year old is the size of a 5 year old. Their ped scoffs at my insistence of celiac even though I have it. We are their only voice!!! Go for it

Gosh! I think I'd be finding a new doctor for my kids if I were you.

Are you saying that celiac causes you rib pain?  Or that your ribs are fragile due to being celiac?  Or that the vitamins you take act as an analgesic, and that OTC pain-relievers do not work for you?  I don't understand the connection.

I am so discouraged!  I would rather not eat... or even eat junk (with the expected result)... than cook!  I have been gluten-free (hah) since 2016.  But my husband eats tons of bread, biscuits, cake, muffins... you name it.  Everything on the SCD that's illegal, he eats.  And buys it and brings it home, many times in trying to please me!  Please don't suggest we have a heart-to-heart talk;  been there, done that.  He truly is unable to change.  ONE reason is that culturally, we are opposites.  Another reason is that he is in his 80's and isn't about to do something he doesn't want to.  If I don't cook for him, his nutrition would be less than poor. My mental state is going from bad to worse.  He is also declining mentally (memory, reasoning) and physically, and that makes me want to cry all the time; that, or be angry. My celiac symptoms are not completely resolved, just somewhat better. I have just read the book re SCD, wish I could try that diet (cause it promises a cure) but the learning/implementing curve is more than I can handle if I have to cook the way they say is necessary. I live in an area with poor medical help; I tried the (only) dietitian listed in my area who is celiac knowledge certified, but she doesn't accept my insurance.  I'm on my own. I am hypothyroid, and on HRT.  Cannot tolerate Buspirone; anti-depressives are ineffective due to gene mutations (I've been tested). Can anyone help?  Or not....

Im not being heard by my previous doctor I had for 25 years. I switched in May of this year.I was half told of my celiac disease in 1994 and to stay away from wheat and Ill be just fine.Im not.Was on tramadel from I think 2006 til 2023.In 2007 still gluten-free had blood test and showed other food allergies. I have been avoiding and reading labels so I don't get sick.Im 54 years old, my right eye feels as if pressure ( seeing eye specialist) saw dermatologist and had skin graph was told ulcers but since I was disregarded of my celiac disease and it was previous doctor who sent me to dermatologist, its now " undetermined ".I pushed for the first and second ANA panel and negative. I had my 5th colonoscopy July 9 this year and colon looks great, BECAUSE IM gluten-free for 31 YEARS.Waiting on biopsy. My only celiac proof on medical was 2014 that i physically have, i don't have original. How do I get my new doctor to understand the severity of pain Im dealing with, daily flare ups.Exhausted and allergic to everything. Menopause has intensified, i feel but then again I had my 3rd covid in March 2023 and I can't bounce back.Pain down left leg always in the bathroom when I barely eat.Its affecting my life and frustrated with doctors not knowing. To be far my new doctor is having me see two specialist but how do I get him to understand its my false negative celiac disease????

Thank you.  I’ll be sure to look into those.

I was diagnosed with microscopic colitis and celiac a couple of years ago.  The GI doctor prescribed a course of budesonide, which moderately helped until I tapered off.    After a lot of ups and downs over the course of 2 years, I am finally in microscopic colitis remission.  Since I am also diabetic, I was started on metformin and Jardiance.  Metformin by itself helped moderately.  I added Jardiance and I was much better.  I stopped the metformin and relapsed and when I added it back, I regained remission.  I think metformin and Jardiance helped my colitis because they reduce inflammation in the gut.  Metformin is known to favorably modulate the gut microbiome and reduce inflammatory cytokines.  Similarly, emerging evidence supports the anti-inflammatory properties of SGLT2 inhibitors like Jardiance.  Once I was on both, the diarrhea stopped completely, even though nothing else ever worked long-term.  There is a Facebook group that can be very informative and helpful.  Look for "Microscopic Colitis and Lymphocytic Colitis Support Group.  You will find that members of the Facebook group identify other pathways to remission of microscopic colitis.
