I've been reading some good things about raw apple cider vinegar improving digestion. I'm wondering if taking it might help heal my gut heal from the affects of celiac (I seem to be healing very slowly if at all). I'm curious if anyone else has used it and feels it has helped them heal. Although I have all the same symptoms as when I was diagnosed, I'm most concerned about the continued loose stools. Has this helped anyone (I hope, I hope, I hope!

Apple cider vinegar taken at the beginning of a meal can stimulate digestion in the stomach (not intestines), especially for people with low stomach acid. The small intestine is primarily basic (like bicarbonate), not acidic. So I don't think cider vinegar would help heal the small intestines. However L-glutamine can help heal the intestines.

I did try taking L-glutamine but I've seen no difference in symptoms so looking for other possibilities.

Have you tried probiotics? Having good bacteria in your gut helps with digestion, and enzyme production and should thus help with healing also. There are multiple threads on here about which probiotics to try.

Yep, I've been taking a probiotic in pill form for awhile. I've decided to try and add more probiotics so have started having yogurt for breakfast and also including kefir. I was reading that raw apple cider vinegar has probiotic properties too so that got me interested in it.

I grew up in apple country! After I read a book about the benefits of raw organic apple cider, I tried it. I don't know if it speeds up the recovery period (it takes time and diligence to to the diet to recover) but I'm reasonably sure it didn't hurt me. I still keep it in the pantry. It's great for salad dressings, swabbing on the skin for insect bites. If I could find the actual book, it would give me at least 99 more uses for it.

The funny thing is that I was so entheusiastic about that book and the concept that it would fix everything that most of my neighbors bought the book (we're a tight knit crew) I don't see organic cider vinegar in their pantries anymore. I pay attention the stuff like that, maybe because of the AI disease.

I see you said you didn't think it hurt you. Do you think it helped at all? I so want to heal!!! Frustrating waiting for something good to happen.

I know it's frustrating. You kind of need to work out what works with your body and diet. For me, I had to pay attenion to other food intolerences like corn, dairy, soy. We're used to a quick fix and a microwave society. That can't be your reality anymore.

For me, and it may not be the same for you, I found it best to go with whole foods, things you have to slice and dice. Granted, it's a PIA, but I never got sick from something I had to peel. Including the skin off a rack of raw ribs we smoked). You could make a mean marinade for the ribs with that raw cider (especially if you added hot pepper flakes).

Raw apple cider isn't the "answer", it's just another avenue to pursue while you push for for answer, IMHO and experience. But I could be incorrect. Try to eat as as clean as you can, sleep as well as you can, and figure out what's bugging you.

      He is not just a psychiatrist.  He is also a neuroscientist.  And yes, I have already read those studies.   I agree with benfotiamine.  This is short term while glutened/inflammation occurs.  As I had already mentioned, these symptoms no longer exist when this phase passes.  And yes, I know that celiac is a disease of malnutrition.  We are working with a naturopath.

      Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

      Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have.It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.

      @Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.
