Greens Plus Superfood Supplement Gluten-free?

Hello there,

I'm new to this board, but have a question that hopefully someone can answer. I have celiac disease (obviously, that's why i'm here!). I am curious about these green superfood supplements. I recently purchased a small, single serving package of this supplement called "Greens +" (Greens plus) green superfood supplement. It is a powdered supp. that you mix with water or juice. Now, everywhere that I've looked and everyone that I"ve asked (people who work in the store where it is sold, the website of the product) that it is gluten free, however the ingredients list barley grass and wheat grass as ingredients. I have asked some people about this and they say that it is still gluten free as the grains are sprouted and, thus, young...not mature, mucus-creating grains. What do you all think? Has anyone had any experience with any green superfood stuff? I'd love to hear some input.

Thanks!

I personally would not go near something with wheat and barley grass in it. Not safe in my opinion.

The problem with these is that there can be seeds that get in the sprout mix that are unsprouted and can contaminate the juice. There is mixed opinion on this but I won't go near them either. Additionally, the bit about "mucus-creating" - our problem with gluten is not that it creates mucus, but that it causes an autoimmune reaction in our bodies. Many people who think they know about gluten intolerance think it's just something you should sort of avoid, or face the consequence of mucus or some other popular devil. I have had people in health food stores tell me that after avoiding gluten for a while I can consume it again. That it not even remotely true.

If you get the bit about "mucus-creating" and gluten again, alarm bells should go off. This person does not understand gluten intolerance and certainly not celiac disease.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
