Hey everyone,

I'm super excited because in a week and a half I'm leaving for a cruise that will be entirely gluten-free! I'm going with the travel group called Bob & Ruth's Gluten-Free Getaways. I was just wondering if anyone had ever done any travelling through them before?

For anyone who hasn't heard of them, their website is www.bobandruths.com

You can see the info about the cruise I'm going on through that website too - it's the Italy/Adriatic cruise in September :D

It's so hard to go away and not have anxiety about my gluten-free diet, but I'm hoping that Bob & Ruth will do a good job of keeping me healthy! I'm really looking forward to seeing the area without stressing about what I'm eating (hopefully).

So has anyone else ever dealt with Bob & Ruth's?

When do you leave or should I ask how was it?

Lauren M Explorer

I leave tomorrow!

Thanks for asking, I'll let you know how it goes - so far everything seems very organized. I still can't help being a little nervous, but Bob & Ruth have been doing this for awhile with a lot of success, so I guess I should just trust them :)

Lauren,

I checked out their website and it looks like so much fun. I would love to hear how your trip was when you returen.

Have a great, worry free time! :)

I've not taken any of their trips but I did hear on another list they are fun and well organized. What the heck, cruises are fun, you are going to a great part of the world and you won't have to worry about food! Sounds perfect! Have fun, I can't wait to hear your report!

I'm back!

I had a really great time. Italy and Greece were beautiful. I definitely want to go back!

Overall, the trip went pretty well, as far as food goes. The second night, in Venice, we were glutened  Other than that, everything was fine though. The first 2 days we spent in Venice, then we were on a cruise ship. All of the food on the cruise ship was fine - I didn't get sick at all. And it was DELICIOUS! The best pancakes I've ever had (gluten-free or not), pasta, pizza, cakes, even baked alaska! I got to meet a lot of really nice people with celiac disease from around the country too - that was the best part.

I think that I'd like to do another of these trips again, albeit on a smaller scale. They are quite expensive, plus I think that the problem with the restaurant in Venice (that served us wheat bread sticks) was just part of the language barrier. I paid dearly for that "misunderstanding" though...

I forgot to mention that one of the highlights of the trip was a get together hosted by the Italian Celiac Society. They were so kind and welcoming and put together a lovely luncheon for us. They are so advanced in their gluten-free foods - we could really learn something from them!

I’m having this type of MRI this afternoon,  What specifically do you want to know?  From what I’ve read, not all facilities use the same drink prep.

Hi I've been told I need a MRI on my bowels , I was booked for a colonoscopy, but because of my sever back issues and trapped nerve it can't be done , the nurse told me I will have to have a manitol drink a hour before the scan , I'm just a bit worried has I have issues with sweeteners like even a little,  I get a weird throat and ears and I've read it is a similar substance , not sure if anyone has had one of these scans or could give me some advise on the drink prep thanks in advance 😄

Hi all ! Can a celiac attack be so intense that it causes your entire body to work in reverse? Meaning really bad pain,  neuropathy and muscle,  jaw pain,  the stomach issues , Horrible anxiety and confusion??  I had a Tums and you would think I ate poison. My jaw and stomach did not like it . Not the norm for me. Things that are simple are just out of control. Anyone ever have this happen??  I'm trying to figure out what I ate or did to bring on a celiac like attack. I had an idea before but yesterday I didn't have any gluten unless it was in a medication ?! Any positive suggestions ??  Thank you

The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
