Dairy Queen

So we read on Dairy Queen's website that their soft serve and certain toppings were ok. So I got a sundae with the vanilla and chocolate twist. And hot fudge topping. Nothing else. About 2 hours later cramping and I went to the washroom. Smelly...loose but not total D. And a lot. Do we know this is actually safe? I assumed as long as I had something on the gluten free list along with no loose toppings because of cross contamination risks that we should be okay?

I eat ice cream at DQ with no issues. I don't try those mix-ins because they have some gluten mix- ins ( Blizzard?)like Oreos, but the ice cream and toppings like fudge should be good. However, anything is possible. Could have nothing to do with gluten. Sometimes, we just don't know.

True. While I seem to be able to eat stuff with dairy in it with no problems..i haven't had milk in about a week and will be trying it again soon..perhaps my innards healing are aggravated by the dairy? Or maybe it was just a freak thing lol

I only eat the Dilly Bars that are already sealed in cellophane and made at the DQ factory. You have to ask, because some DQs make them on - site.

While it is not the same as a sundae, it is a way to eat something with less chance of cross contamination. Remember, most of the staff at the DQ is not handling the rest of the gluten food, and then the ice creams and whatnot, with the thought in mind that one of us might show up later.

There is also a frozen yogurt shop in the city that does not sell cones, only in serving cups, that works for me (the clerk knows I will read the ingredient lists, and the plain vanilla tends to be always in the same dispenser.). We checked out another shop closer by, but it served in cones and there were 10 gazillion kids and crumbs strewn all around.... took awhile for them to even find their ingredients book :o:blink::ph34r: that was sort of an accident waiting to happen, and we backed gracefully out. There was another shop that sells frozen yogurt, that we were going to, but they keep changing brands and ingredients all the time  and then many times they did not have the basic vanilla or chocolate, but some sort of ghastly sugar free, fat free version loaded with chemicals and fillers, and then the rest were the weirdo flavors I have no intention of trying anyway, because of the higher risk of "natural flavors" being some unknown, and a lot of them were obviously gluten-bearing, like the crud with cookies in it or "cake batter." Had to give them a flunk.

I had the ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery once.... didn't get cc'd, but eating a plain cup of that stuff, it's really, really comically gummy, to where you think it might actually be frozen tapioca or mixed with xanthan gum .

I just had some this past week and thought it was really gummy like it hadn't been in the freezer long enough. Guess not! I wasn't all that impressed.

To the OP: We don't do blizzards because of the cc risk but will do sundaes with the regular toppings, buster and dilly bars and the frozen fruit drinks.

I have a strong reaction to Dairy Queen... and I just get plain ice cream. I really don't know if it is lactose, or what. But what is stranger, I have no issue whatsoever with Culver's custard.

A blizzard? I won't touch them. I just got vanilla and chocolate icecream in a cup as a sundae with hot fudge on it...no other toppings.

I have had the buster bar before but it was in a paper wrapper and not done up :(

Ichthus is the Greek word (using English letters) for fish. The letters in the actual Greek word form an acronym that come from the first letters in the Greek words for "Jesus", "God's Son," "Savior".   Now, back to your family's denial of your celiac disease, I think you can relate to this:

Thanks for the kind words. It's hard to convince my doctor to investigate further because of a negative blood test and he only tested me for one marker. 🙃 I've come to the point where I need to take this into my own hands because the doctors are infuriating and it's not going anywhere. I've been gluten free for a week and feeling better but I was still consuming dairy and I think that's what's backing me up. Next week no dairy introduced.

Hello mantooth nice to meet you it's so uncanny what you wrote you sound just like me even the back issues are exactly the same and I'm new here too trying to find out if I have the same had I too have been struggling to find answers with my docters I don't have a diagnosis but I've been struggling like forever and was told ibs and health aniexty was my problem but on researching I've come to the conclusion it's probably more because i cut gluten and lactose out for 6 months and  it was a incredible change for me so although I can't help with diagnosis I can say your not alone in trying  to find answers 😊
