Surgical Pathology Report- Pd Mimics celiac disease

The results of biopsies (Dec,2012) follows:

The small intestines: No evidence of celiac disease in the 3rd and 4th part. However, at the 1st part(duodenum), showed mildly chronic peptic duodenitis, associated with villous architectural damage. The villi were widened/blunted. Negitive for H.pyloric. So stated, PD mimics celiac disease villous abnormalities.

The stomach: Antral mucosa w/mild chronic gastritis. Negitive H.pyloric.

The esophagus: mild mucosal inflammation due to acid reflux. I over indulged in chocolate and balsam vineagrette recently. :angry:

My last endoscopy was Sept, 2007. Similar results(AR/GERD). My GI Doc is pleased with stability of GFD. :) Next endoscopy: 2017.

For GI discomfort, 40mg Omeprazole/1 daily was Rx'ed. Feeling better already.

Make progress, become well and stay well.

PD? personality disorder? Parkinson's Disease? I don't think either if those directly damages the villi like Celiac does. :)

PD = peptic duodenitis.

Interesting link, but a little to complex for me. My doc observed some patchy areas of interest. But not in the 2nd part. That is why no biopsy was taken.

You say no biopsies were taken?? None at all? Certainly the report doesn't mention any :wacko: and yet you talk about 'report of biopsies'. One wouldl think with villous blunting that one would want to rule out celiac disease rather than just say, oh, that's PD :rolleyes: The reason for biopsies, after all, is to see what one cannot see with the naked eye.

:huh: I strongly suggest that you re-read my topic. Six (6) biopsies were taken at various places with results as stated therein.

:unsure: I certainly did read your topic. :) You were the one who stated that no biopsies were taken; I now see that you were referring to none from the 2nd part. Based on your statement I assumed what you had reported initially as 'results of biopsies' was his procedure report which did seem rather detailed for the naked eye.

I do think, if I were you, I would be inclined to have someone else look at the slides and verify the duodenitis that 'mimics' celiac, just to be sure. :)

All is well. :) I'll get a 2nd opinion asap.

      The topic has come up in the forum a lot: https://www.celiac.com/search/?q=lymphocytic colitis&quick=1&type=forums_topic and here are discussions with "colitis": https://www.celiac.com/search/?&q=colitis&type=forums_topic&quick=1&search_and_or=and&sortby=relevancy

      I’m in a flare up with rib pain. I read where others have experienced this after exposure to gluten.  Has anyone found something that eases the pain.

      Scott Adams/Trents - Thanks!  I will definitely do some more research.  I welcome any and all advice.

      Yes, I've read that online but I was just surprised that no one has mentioned it on this forum specifically.  We have not had our follow up meeting with the Dr where I'm sure she will advise as to how he needs to deal with this ailment.  I have learned from past health issues - if you want to find the REAL truth - talk to someone living with the disease.  THEY will know way more than any doctor ever could.    Thanks for responding.
