  1. Thanks Sparkles! We are definitely trying the gluten-free diet anyways. Thank you! I questioned our dr. again today and didn't get anywhere with this. He's the one who originally suggested celiac for our youngest, who tested positive. I had never even heard of it before that. We'll have to figure it out by diet and/or eventually enterolab...
  2. Thank you, 2kids4me! I'm going to do a little more research on the low IgA stuff and see if any of it sounds like him. It's nice to get reassurance from everyone on here as you really start feeling like a hypochondriac sometimes.
  3. WOW! That's exciting! Way to go, Nancy! I know firsthand that when you're overweight and lose it, what a difference it can make in your confidence level as well as your overall feeling of health. Unfortunately, I have always gained it back. I have yet to go gluten-free as I was waiting to get my blood test results back. My weight has always been...
  4. Thank you! I feel better now that I vented everything to anyone who would listen. Evie, I'm so glad they were able to find out what was wrong with you and get you feeling better....it's too bad it took so long and you had to deal with symptoms for 20+ years though. Prayers to you and your family, also! And thanks for the reply.
  5. This is keeping me up tonight! My 10 year old's celiac bloodwork came back today. The doctor said he's negative for celiac, but "his IgA is low, which just means he's more susceptible to viral infections." From what I've been reading, it sounds to me like if the IgA number is low, then the test won't be accurate because it's all based on these numbers...
  6. We had allergy testing done for our son because of daily hives, vomiting, excema, etc. Milk was the one thing we told the dr. we knew for sure he was allergic to because he reacted immediately by projectile vomiting. The skin test showed positive on everything they tested for EXCEPT for milk! He then did bloodwork, which showed a high-positive for milk...
  7. Thanks, everyone! I just posted a new topic tonight....Our oldest son's test just came back today too. The dr. told me it was negative for celiac, but that his IgA number was off. Not sure what that means.....
  8. Again, I have to get a copy to be sure, but I think it was called the celiac panel (?) that was run.... I believe there were 3 different ones (IgA, IgG, and Ttg ??? Does that make sense?), but this was the only one that he pointed out that was "off." BTW, his little brother tested positive on IgG by another doctor (and negative on the other two......
  9. The dr. told me today that my son tested negative for celiac. He mentioned that the IGA number was not where it was supposed to be though. I need to get a copy of the test...i don't remember if he said it was too high or too low and I felt very rushed, so I figured it would be easier to question it later. In the meantime, does anyone know what this means...
  10. My heart goes out to you for your lost babies and for the stress I'm sure all of this has put on you and so glad to hear Matthew is doing better now. It's hard to understand why so much can happen to one person, but it looks like you're trying to make the best of a bad situation and try to help others so they don't go through everything you did. Thank...
  11. Thank you! Wouldn't I have to have the gene if my son tested positive? Do you know anything about this?
  12. How accurate are the blood tests? What if I was just recently triggered....would that make a difference? Also, is there anyone out there who can explain the gene thing to me. I don't have the money for enterolab or I would do that. I need to do something that doesn't cost me any money up front. I'm eager to try the gluten-free diet, but wasn't sure if...
  13. Do you have a juicer to make fruit and/or veggie juice from scratch? You might be able to sneak some veggies in that way too....
  14. I was taking flax seed oil for a while several years ago and I can't remember if it made a difference or not. I'll have to try that one again. Thanks!
  15. I just have to say that this sounds so funny when you look at the cute little picture as you're reading it!
  16. I have the urge to constantly roll my ankles around (they usually pop a lot when I do this, too) and stretch my calf muscles. I'm always pointing my toes up toward my knees to stretch. Also, on the outside of the lower leg, I am constantly stretching/massaging this muscle also. It bothers me mostly at night or when I'm sitting down. It doesn't hurt,...
  17. I have horrible insomnia also, but these things sometimes help.... -lavendar oil...a couple drops on the pillow -very, very soft music where I can barely hear it...Norah Jones, ocean music, lullabyes, etc -write down my next day's "to do" list BEFORE I go to bed (then, I don't sit there thinking about everything I have to do and worrying about...
  18. Thank you...I thought I had tried everything, but have gotten so many responses with new things that I haven't tried before. I'm not as concerned with price if it works and I'm willing to try this one as I haven't used it before. My podiatrist prescribed some stuff that came in a tiny, little tube, the size of my little finger and it cost $90! I asked...
  19. You might look into Enterolab. They use a stool sample and I believe you don't even have to be eating gluten at the time of the test as you do with both blood and biopsy, so you could get tested this way also. From what I understand they're tests are very sensitive and may pick up something that the other tests can't. The downside? Expensive and not covered...
  20. My son is always extremely constipated as well...sometimes going up to 5 days without having a bowel movement, then going 4-5 times in a row, stopping whatever he's doing to hold onto the couch or me and crying (a very high-pitch cry, different from his regular crying). He tested positive on his blood test. The blood test would probably be the quickest...
  21. Hi Nancy, Other than the fact that I'm a year older than you, any of my friends or family reading this would think it was me! I am getting the blood test tomorrow and can't wait for the results. It would be amazing to me if all these years of problems could finally be over by simply (well, maybe not so simply at the beginning!) changing my diet. Thanks...
  22. Thanks Leah! I just checked it out. I think they just have to demand the test if the docs give them any grief at all. If nothing else, they can say it will give them peace of mind since another family member was already diagnosed with celiac. I hope someone on this board can shed some light on the "why" for the rest of us.
  23. I understand why a person would be malnourished and underweight with celiac, but not sure why it would cause a person to be overweight..not just bloated, but heavy or even obese. There are quite a few people in my family who I suspect could have celiac, but most of them are on the heavy side. What would cause this? What should they say to the dr. who isn...
  24. interesting! I never knew there was such a thing as a fat-soluable vitamin panel. Do you know how much information you find out from that? Does it tell you every vitamin defficiency you may have? Thanks so much for your input!
