  1. Does anyone know if the Outback gluten-free menu is available internationally? I've eaten at Outback in Taiwan and S Korea before I found out about celiac and I'm going to be heading back to those countries in a couple of months. Thanks!
  2. Dagoba Chocolates are all gluten free at least. They have some very interesting flavors too. According to their website, at least some of their bars are also soy and dairy free. They're also organic. Open Original Shared Link This is some good chocolate. I really like the lavender chocolate and the mon cherri. I'm not sure how widely available this...
  3. I've only tried some gluten-free quinoa spaghetti that my Wild Oats had, but it reheated just fine. I had the spaghetti sauce mixed in with it, left the lid on the container but vented up in a corner, and nuked it for just over a minute. Came out fine. Oh, and the qunioa spaghetti was very tasty. It was very much like the regular spaghetti. It was my first...
  4. I'm a newbie; I've been gluten-free for nearly a month now. I was feeling great for the first couple of weeks, then I started getting sick. It's runny nose, watery eyes, congestion kind of thing which would normally make me think I've got a cold, but no one I know is sick and I generally don't get colds very often. And it's summer! Ya just don't get a cold...
  5. Gin is/was one of my favorite distilled alcohols. Based on extremely limited testing on me I appear not to react to Bombay Sapphire (the nice blue bottle) but I appear to have reacted from Aviation Gin, a local distillery that I actually asked about the gluten issue. The distillery makes both Medoyeff vodka and Aviation gin, so I asked about both. Both are...
  6. I ate at our local Outback a couple of days ago. I'm a gluten-free newbie, but I took my printout of the menu with me. It's a good thing I did too! I asked the hostess for a gluten-free menu to look at while I waited (for 45 minutes!) and she just looked at me and brightly said "All of our menu items at gluten free!" I stared at her and said that no, in fact...
  7. Thanks to all for the welcome! A couple of recommendations: Bully4You - if you're still in Portland, check out Open Original Shared Link and click on Restaurants. There's a list that includes the 4 from glutenfreerestaurants but also has lots more. I'm hoping to try them all! Other local people: the New Seasons and Wild Oats health food/groceries...
  8. I shop a lot at Costco. I'm very recently gluten-free so I'm still learning, but definitely I'll continue to buy the cheese. I'm a real cheese person. The string cheese makes a nice snack. My Costco also carries Amy's gluten-free enchilada meals in the freezer section. It's a 6 pack with 3 cheese and 3 black bean. Some people have reported CC issues with...
  9. Hi all! I'm new to the group having just been diagnosed with celiac disease last week. I know that Portland has a branch of GIG, but are there list members from the area also? I obviously missed the August meeting, but I'm hoping to get to Sept to see if it's a good group. I'm lucky that I was diagnosed - I asked my doc to run the celiac panel to rule...
  10. Hi all! I'm really new to gluten free eating and especially dining out, being only one week new since my biopsy. I'm going to Ashland OR this weekend for our annual family trip to see the plays and I'm really nervous about eating. I'll be taking some stuff with me, but I'm really interested in some good restaurants in Ashland. This is my 4th trip there...
  11. I take melatonin occasionally. I generally prefer the melatonin I got mail order from Life Extension from the stuff I got at the pharmacy here. The Life Extension is is a 6 hour time release version and it is only 700mcg. The pharmacy stuff is 3 mg like everyone is mentioning. The 3mg pill puts me out but makes me "overly" sleepy, nearly drugged feeling....
  12. I had my endoscopy just last week (July 25). I was very nervous going into it, but really, it was a breeze. Mine was scheduled for 4pm, so my last meal was breakfast before 8am, then only clear fluids until noon, then nothing at all after that. I was mostly hungry leading up to the endoscopy, but also nervous. It didn't help that my doc was over an hour late...
  13. My hubby has badly cracked heels and generally bad skin on his feet. What works for him is to soak his feet every night in a 50% solution of bleach, then put on Lotrimin for athlete's foot. He also blow dries his feet every morning after his shower and puts foot powder in his shoes. And yes, it takes all of that to keep his feet reasonably healthy.
  14. For those Catholics who take only the Blood, how do you do it logistically? I'm frequently visiting at a church since I travel a lot, and do you just go up in the long line, then skip over to the second line for the wine when you get to the front? It seems like it would be weird to "skip" the bread part just from the logistical standpoint. Of course...
