  1. I am not vegetarian, but am gluten-free. I think what you want to do is doable, but as you surmise, the protein is going to be a bit challenging. The good news is that as a runner you generally only need about 15-20% or so of your calories to come from protein or about .7g per pound of body weight. Fish is a great source of protein so if you can tolerate...
  2. It must be frustrating to think the results will bring and answer and then they do not. It is certainly possible to still have Celiac and not have it show up; many people are ,unfortunately, misdiagnosed for years. You might want to ask if they specifically checked for Celiac. Your body does not need gluten so the only harm in going gluten-free is that...
  3. I'm not from Miami, but I'll take a stab anyway. Fast Casual (TGI Fridays, Chili's, etc.) in general is very challenging. Usually if you ask a server if s/he is familiar with gluten the response is something like 'Is that a type of sugar?" Since they tend not to have a national supply chain their websites can offer little and it all depends upon the...
  4. First, you can certainly post without any diagnosis at all. Second, yes, your symptoms could be Celiac. Nothing against your doctor, but you might want to validate that s/he knows how to interpret the blood test. I got the gene from my grandmother and after I was diagnosed my mother decided she should get checked (turns out she had many of my symptoms...
  5. Does it have any soy? I have found that soy will bother me in some things, but not in others. I use a whey protein powder (U.S.) and it contains soy, but in my case does not bother me.
  6. Check out The Gluten-Free Gourmet Bakes Bread by Bette Hagman. Lots of good recipes. First gluten-free bread I have found that could be used without having to toast it first. I am partial to Kinnininick for premade, although I toast it first. Barbara's Crispy Brown Rice cereal is just l like Rice Krispies and there are numerous others (at least to me...
  7. I used to get very painful leg cramps (calf), usually just after falling asleep. I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of them. It was never real frequent, maybe once or twice per month, but enough that I could not go to bed without thinking "Will this be the night?" Since being gluten-free I have been (knock wood!) cramp free! I would have gone gluten-free just...
  8. I did not, but you will find that it is tough to find a norm with Celiac. Everybody is a little bit different. In the scheme of things, 10 days is not long so hang in there!
  9. Same with me. Never had the "traditional" symptoms until my first glutening after being gluten-free. When people ask what it is like I tell them I will get flu like symptoms for anywhere between hours and days. And of course there is the intestinal damage, but you don't "feel" that.
  10. Lo-fat Family Italian also contains gluten, but these are the ony two.
  11. Sorry about her foot; that has to be tough for a toddler. I don't know if it takes any longer for kids versus adults. When I was diagnosed by doctor had me do a bone scan. It was at the lowest level of "green" (good) which supposed him and he chalked up to many years of exercise. But even at that level he wants me taking 1500 mg of calcium each day for...

    ARCHIVED Outback!

Bonefish Grill, Carrabba's, Outback and Cheeseburger in Paradise are all owned by the same company and all have gluten-free menus. I have eaten at several different Outbacks in several states and all have been great.
  13. I was pretty asymptomatic. Didn't feel sick, ate anything, etc. I was diagnosed almost a year ago and now that I have been gluten-free I *do* react when I get glutened. Additionally I am amazed at the number of small things, which I would never have associated with Celiac, have pretty much gone away. Cold sores, middle of the night muscle cramps, hay...
  14. I when I was first diagnosed and read about people with separate butter containers, toasters, etc. I thought it was overkill and I just needed to do some due diligence. But then I learned that, at least for me, it does matter and I know have separate butter, etc. All it takes is an crumb. Now, I imagine that if there is a crumb or tow sitting on top of...
  15. Not for the upper. That delicacy is for a colonoscopy.
  16. I can't say how it was for any of my kids (who have not had this procedure), but I know what to was like for me. Had to fast beforehand as the previous poster mentioned. I was in the room for the procedure and the next thing I remember I was in recovery. Apparently I was a little chatty while I was out, but I've not figured out how I did that with anything...
