  1. what a great question!!! i used to LOVE my wok before going gluten free. i stir-fried veggies and tofu with soy sauce in vegetable oil, and i thought i was being healthy!! now that i can't have gluten i haven't looked at my wok. i wouldn't even know where to start to make a stir fry. i am yet to find a gluten-free soy sauce and now i can't have soy so...
  2. Hey Lauren, I too am fairly new to the world of Celiac Disease and being gluten free. I was a vegetarian for many years until going away to college and getting so sick from eating french fries and grilled cheese every day. And had little choice but to start eating some meat. Clearly that did not help my gluten intolerance. I didn't know then about...
  3. i really like a company called Seventh Generation. I have used their glass cleaner and carpet cleaner. They both have a natural citrus scent and they produce products that are all non toxic, biodegradable, and free of chlorine, petroleum based solvents, glycol ehters, phosphates, acids, caustics, dyes, and perfumes. And the best part is...I bought it...
  4. Is Eukanuba gluten-free? My vet strongly recommended IAMs, but clearly thats a no no because it has a ton of gluten in it. I have heard good things about Eukanuba. My cats only eat dried food and one kitty is in need of losing a few pounds. my family's dog (he lives with my parents) is on science diet to manage his weight. is that only available...
  5. i absolutely love my 2 kitties. i think i have done a pretty thorough job of ridding my apartment of any traces of gluten. the one place i completely missed was my cats. they are very loveable and cuddly. they eat IAMS cat food and treats which i dont think are gluten-free. does anyone know which cat foods are safe?
  6. maybe the antibiotics you took weren't gluten free? i have had a few friends who got their nipples peirced and oh gosh did they say it hurt. it definitely sounds infected as you already know. i have had a few piercings in my day and the best thing for me was to soak it in a 3:1 ratio of sea salt to water. And if the infection doesn't clear some hydrogen...
  7. wow. talk about a reliable response!!! thank you so much! time to call my boyfriend to give him a list of meds to by me on his way home. thanks again!
  8. So I have a really bad head cold. I usually don't like to take too much unnecessary medicine but I am feeling pretty yucky. Does anyone know what over the counter cold/sinus meds are gluten free? My very first homemade gluten-free chicken soup and gallons of hot tea aren't working. I barely slept last night and could use some nyquil for tonight. What...
  9. Just when I thought I was losing my mind, this forum has helped save my sanity. Everyone here has been and continues to be so supportive, whether I cave in and get fries from McDonald's or not! Carla has given me the most useful advice and is always quick to respond to my anxiety ridden questions. I have learned alot from Ursula especially about soy products...
  10. The concern I had with the turkey legs was the sauce they put on it. I don't know if they put any seasoning on them but the ones they had there were sort of glossy looking. Of course I had more will power holding back from a giant turkey leg than delicious french fries. I'm never having McDonald's again, no mattter how long the car ride is!!
  11. Okay so was I a moron? Yesterday my boyfriend and I drove upstate to the NY Renassance Fair which was a ton of fun. I planned ahead and packed my own lunch in a cooler which we kept in the car. While my boyfriend ate the gigantic turkey legs and saugages on sticks, I starved. I know I could have walked back to the car but it was so far away and I just...
  12. Welcome! It has only been about a month and a half since my diagnosis and going gluten free. I just recently stopped eating soy and I am also lactose intolerant which I am hoping with be short term. Everyone on here has been and continues to be so supportive and helpful. Its for others who can eat gluten with no problems to understand what we are going...
  13. Thank you for your reply. I am 25 and should get a bone density test. Is that something my regular doctor should test me for?
  14. So I have been doing a ton of reading on Celiac Disease on here and also with the billion books I purchased on living gluten free and related disorders. I have been reading a lot about osteoporosis and the increased likelihood of developing it later in life if you are intolerant to gluten. I was wondering how early I should get a bone density test or...
  15. aside from acid reflux and constipation, i'd say brain fog is my number one symptom. since going gluten free it has gotten a little better but i am still suffering from some anxiety and lately depression which may be associated with brain fog as well. prior to my diagnosis i remembering telling my boyfriend that i just felt so "dumb". it was hard for me...
  16. Okay so I drink tea ALOT (like at least 2-3 cups a day). I usually have 1 cup of caffineated tea in the morning and then drink unsweetened iced tea alternating with water throughout the day. I have always drank peppermint tea or ginger tea to calm my stomach when its upset. I thought I may have read something possibly on this forumn about the dangers of...
  17. i LOVE sprouts. how do you grow yours? i would love to learn!! (p.s I have hypoglycemia as well, and also insulin resistance. i can understand the need to eat protein a gazillion times a day. eating meat is very difficult for me because i really can't stand it. i like fish much better.)
  18. i enjoy having a few drinks a week. just curious, what type of alcohol do you usually drink? I normally stick to wine and occasionally may have some vodka and diet sprite if im dying for carbination.
  19. thank you very much. i actually started to do a lot of reading on soy especially as it relates to thyroid disease and apparently it is really dangerous and can cause severe negative reactions. although it is said that soy intake can help prevent some cancers, the negative effects seem to outway the positive. negative effects of unfermented soy can inlude...
  20. I checked with the company and its supposedly gluten free. i stopped eating it though out of nervousness!!
  21. I was just there on Friday night and they still (thankfully) had the gluten-free menu. I did notice a few things had changed. One of my favorite items is no longer listed as gluten-free, the chicken with corn cakes minus the sauce....figures. But i have been there at least 3 times since going gluten-free and the staff has always been so helpful and patient...
  22. What is Optimum 96? I have only heard of Enterolab. Sounds interesting....
  23. I was at the store today picking up canned tuna, which I would naturally think to be safe. Bumblebee solid white tuna in water has "vegetable broth" lised as one of the ingredients. Does anyone know which if any canned tuna are safe to eat? What about mayo?
  24. thank you everyone. i actually feel some relief. i think dairy and soy give me problems so im just going to leave them out completely. and i even went to a normal supermarket and didn't have a panic attack. i literally said out loud while walking from my car to the store, "i can do this. don't freak out". i pretty much stayed in the vegetable section...
  25. well this isn't probably the smartest thing. but i know that teh gas-x softgels are gluten free. i have the targe brand. i was assuming they were okay as they both have the same active ingredients. i guess i need to be more careful!!
