ARCHIVED Is It Possible The Hypoglycemia Will Disappear Completely?
2boysmama replied to 2boysmama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's awesome! Hopefully I'll be as fortunate, though 20 years is a long time for damage to be done. I would imagine that if I do heal, it's going to take a long time. -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible The Hypoglycemia Will Disappear Completely?
2boysmama replied to 2boysmama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would think that anything is possible. But I know when I had the glucose test done while I was pregnant, I felt pretty "off" the rest of the day - it's a pretty heavy dose of sugar, so maybe that's what made you sick. -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible The Hypoglycemia Will Disappear Completely?
2boysmama replied to 2boysmama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm glad to hear there's hope. I emailed my diabetic educator (from when I was pregnant) but haven't heard back from her. I may just give her a call for the heck of it and see what she thinks. Of course I think I cursed myself because yesterday I had the worst hypoglycemic episode I've had in months. Not sure what triggered that because I know I didn... -
I've been hypoglycemic for about 20 years now, and gluten-free for about 5 months or so. My hypoglycemia has improved dramatically since going gluten-free. In fact I can usually stay symptom-free as long as I manage it correctly by eating enough protein (especially first thing in the morning). Because of that, I'm pretty well convinced that was one of the...

I sure will miss the taste of them - but I definitely won't miss how I felt after I ate them.

My son is almost 7 months old, and this is what I'm doing: first off - NO cereals at all - they're not a necessary part of the diet. I started solids the day before he turned 6 months (which was a Sunday). His first foods were banana and avocado. I'm going by that list that somebody else posted (the Hall publications one). And I'm also waiting a full 7 days...

ARCHIVED Poll: Were You Or Your Children Breast-fed?
2boysmama replied to Mtndog's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was breastfed until about six months (I think). I breastfed my first son for a year and didn't learn of his gluten sensitivity until about six months ago (he's 3 now). I'm currently breastfeeding our almost-seven month old son, and plan to continue until at least a year - maybe 18 months. -
ARCHIVED I Had A Really Nice Experience At Pappadeux's !
2boysmama posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
DH and I went and had lunch at Pappadeux's yesterday (seafood - for anyone not familiar). He mentioned to the waitress that both of us are gluten intolerant. When she left I said to him that I wasn't really in the habit of telling wait staff about our gluten intolerance because most people don't know what it is and their eyes just kind of glaze over. The... -
ARCHIVED I Guess I'm Official. Just Got My Enterolab Results.
2boysmama replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Geoff - I know how you feel - I felt the same exact way after I had my son tested and found out that both my husband and I carry at least one GS gene each (we haven't been tested ourselves yet). I fought "giving in" to the diagnosis for a lonnnnnnnnnng time. I can honestly say though, I feel SO much better going gluten-free that it definitely, positively... -
ARCHIVED Saw The Ped Today & He's Not Happy With The Gastro.
2boysmama replied to vampella's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh yes - we had a similar experience with a pediatric GI doctor. To add insult to injury we work for the same hospital and she KNOWS me ! She also believed that because my son's celiac panel was negative then he CAN'T be having issues with glutens, and when I refused to allow her to do the biopsy she was no longer interested in helping us out. She said... -
ARCHIVED Is It A Red Head Thing?
2boysmama replied to Rook's Mommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have strawberry blonde hair and so do both my boys - all three of us are gluten sensitive. My husband has brown hair but is Irish and is also GS. My mother has red hair and her father is directly from Ireland. My dad's side of the family (where I got my specific hair color) is Scottish/Welsh...so genetically-speaking I'm pretty much surrounded, I think... -
ARCHIVED Playdoh
2boysmama replied to amclemons's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Crayola also makes a modeling clay that she can use - that's what I send to my son's daycare in his art supply box. It feels different than Play-Doh - lighter, I guess you could say. But it works well. -
ARCHIVED Introducing Solids To Baby
2boysmama replied to Katepfeiffer's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Not to be contrary, but I believe that's outdated information. The "between four and six months of age" rule is certainly outdated. Many, many babies (particularly breast fed babies) are not fed solids until a year of age, and they have no problem with texture aversion. The AAP and WHO (just to name two) now state that solids should not be introduced before... -
ARCHIVED Introducing Solids To Baby
2boysmama replied to Katepfeiffer's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We are crossing that bridge as well. My son Aiden is going to turn 6 months on the 29th. We won't be doing cereals at all (unless I decide to make my own at some point). We'll be starting with bananas and avocados. In fact, I may not even start him on solids when he turns exactly six months. He seems to have started his six-month growth spurt and I'll wait... -
I was pretty amused by it for a while too. Now my amusement has morphed into minor annoyance. Hopefully as I keep reminding myself of how awful I felt when I ate those foods, it'll go away. Funny how the body sometimes takes longer to catch up to the brain.

I'm always one to come up with odd questions. So....we've been gluten-free for a few months now, and ALL of us are loving it. DH and I are losing weight, Ryan (DS #1) is feeling a ton better - and we don't intend to ever go back to our former ways of eating. The thing is, every now and then I'll see something I used to indulge in - say a cake or...

ARCHIVED Not Diagnosed By Doctor; But On Diet Anyway...
2boysmama replied to betterbelly's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My DH and I are this way. Our older son was diagnosed as gluten sensitive through enterolabs. We discovered he carries two genes so we knew that we carried at least one gene each and decided to try the gluten-free diet and have had amazing results. I WILL NOT go back to gluten just to get an "official" diagnosis. I know that I feel a million times better... -
ARCHIVED Overweight Before I Was Diagnosed. Has Anyone Lost Weight Since Going Gluten Free?
2boysmama replied to jacklyn1981's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been gluten-free, dairy/casein free, egg free, soy free for coming up on 3 months now (though I will admit I do occasionally cheat with some gluten-free chocolate). I've lost 14 lbs. without even trying - I eat the gluten-free treats, but mostly I eat healthy foods. My hypoglycemia has almost completely resolved, I'm not retaining fluid or feeling bloated... -
ARCHIVED Probiotics
2boysmama replied to 2boysmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks so much for that. The person who recommended it to me is a member here who has a child with celiac and numerous food sensitivities (many more than my own kids), and she uses it on her DC. Assuming the problem doesn't go away, do you have any recommendations for a dairy/soy/casein/gluten free probiotic ? -
ARCHIVED Dumb People Suck
2boysmama replied to vampella's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Not to hijack your thread - but I had YET ANOTHER incident with the daycare on Friday !! My son Ryan was sent to another room where the staff isn't familiar with him. I walk in and he has a BIG handful of playdoh !! I have supplied all his own stuff, gave verbal AND written instructions on how to avoid cc, printed stuff out from this site and made... -
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I have a question about probiotics. I just started all of us on this probiotic: Open Original Shared Link I started us on the lowest dose - 2 tablespoons for DH and I, one for the kiddos (I'm breastfeeding, BTW). The boys have known sensitivities to eggs/dairy, and because this particular brand...

ARCHIVED We Can't Seem To Get Color/consistency Together !
2boysmama replied to 2boysmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
He'd have to skip the kefir since he's allergic to dairy, but I ordered some probiotics for all of us to take that should arrive tomorrow. -
ARCHIVED Dumb People Suck
2boysmama replied to vampella's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I feel your pain. I myself am getting ready to switch my boys to a different daycare. We're having issues other than with food, but for a lonnnnnnnnng time we had issues with that. I'm assuming it's always going to be this way. Like someone said, if it was a nut allergy they'd be all over it, but because this is "invisible" (to them) it's much easier for... -
ARCHIVED We Can't Seem To Get Color/consistency Together !
2boysmama replied to 2boysmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oy. What a thing to be fixated on, lol. I've been dealing with mysterious GI issues from him for over 2 of his 3 years on this planet - with no help from allergists or GI docs. I've had to totally sort this out on my own. At any rate, lol, IKWYM about the toothpaste. Mainstream items such as toothpaste and mouthwash grosses me out because of the garbage...
