  1. I have to add this......... Ice Ice Baby!
  2. I'm confused here. You talk about food allergies and intolerances but what you fail to discuss is that celiac sprue is not the same as a lactose intolerance, or a nightshade intolerance. It is an AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER. There's a BIG difference. If I were lactose intolerant, I could take Lactaid. If I did happen to eat dairy and have a reaction, it would pass...
  3. PixieGirl- what you are describing sounds optimistic for thosevof that get slayed by the smallest amounts of CC!! Llike you said, I wouldn't take it so I could eat loaf of bread, but it would be nice to have some relief from the symptoms. I take Phenergan which is an anti-nausea drug but it also has an antihistamine in it. It really does help, but it makes...
  4. Hi Rachel- And everyone- I'm glad you don't have Lyme but you must have been really bummed not to have a definitive answr yet...Grrr... I hope it's not mercury either but it's got to be something....hmmm... perhaps lack of romance TheDave seemed really cool and he treats you well......Hint hint Vincent- You sound like Billy Crystal in "When Harry...
  5. Hi Everyone- We're moving into our new pad this weekend and won't have internet for a bit so i just wanted to say see you soon, wish us luck and I will check in as often as I can at school!!!!! Hugs, B
  6. I've heard people say this. That after eliminating gluten your body goes through a period where you feel worse instead of better. But this sounds pretty serious. Are you sure you've checked EVERYTHING including personal care stuff? Could you be intolerant to something else. When I first went gluten-free, I replaced gluten with a lot of soy products and...
  7. Well- the packing is done... we ditched as much as we could (1-800-Got-Junk was GREAT!!!!). I'm pretty sure it was mold as I was looking at the window sill in the bathroom today and it was mold and it was black. Also there are cracks in our bedroom ceiling, bathroom ceiling and kitchen sealing. I read a bunch of stuff on decontaminatig your stuff from...
  8. chelsea- I haven't had any experience but I just wanted to let you know that 99% of us are just happy to see you!!!!! I hope you get your answers so you can go to culinary school!
  9. Thanks Carla- I feel like pooop!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm just nervous. About a lot of things. My biggest concern now is that our stuff is being moved Friday into our new place and I'm worried that whatever was in the apt. will come with it. We are ditching the sofas, curtains and anything fabric that can't be washed or dry cleaned EXCEPT the bed because we just...
  10. ANYONE???? PLEASE!
  11. Welcome Stephanie- I am sorry you've been through sso much. There is a huge link between undiagnosed celiac and infertility in terms of miscarriage. I don't know the exact answer to your question about reversing your tubal ligation, but my GI told me that after one year gluten-free, your odds return to what your odds should be naturally. Hope this helps,...
  12. I need some feedback from those who know me well and some who don't (for more objectivity) because I am trying to distinguish between this feeling I have now and a gluten reaction (I'll explain why at the end). Now: headache face/jaw/neck feel stiff eyes feel half open COLD (really really cold) nauseous back, joint pain little "hive" above right...
  13. I'm one of the "lucky" ones who reacted. Made me so sad as they were yummy. You could try a few (if you're willing) and see if you're OK. Most people have been but a few of us have reacted.
  14. It's so hard. What is considered risk-taking for those of us with intolerances is such a joke compared to others. I guess mine would be eating something that someone else has prepared (except for two or three people who REALLY know the diet and CC issues in my life) in a social situation because I feel "bad". The other is allowing myself to get SO hungry...
  15. That is SO FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!! I'm really sorry and hope you feel bettter soon.
  16. Nicely done and much appreciated: Open Original Shared Link
  17. Just wanted to say thank you Scott for jumping in and making some IMPORTANT and SUPPORTIVE claims. It is much appreciated. If everything was "all in my head" I would have thought the numerous medications I was on, both psych and physical, would have "cured" me by now. Somehow they never did
  18. 'zactly- I think I'm Munchausen by proxying myself! Or is it just that "It's all in my head"?
  19. As far I know, no we can't have spelt. For me, I can't even have gluten-free flours that are produced in non-dedicated factories. Just because some people can tolerate it doesn't mean, unfortunately, that it's not doing damage. I know the *official* verdict is still out on oats (not contaminated as they so often are) but I'm pretty sure spelt is a no....
  20. Good advice from everyone here- the other thing I did that made a big difference was two sponges- one to wash off dishes that were gluten-free and one to wash off dishes that had gluten (color-coded) and it REALLY helped. I DID buy new pots and pans because ours were old. I got a non-stick set at Linen's and Things for about $80 that had EVERYTHING I needed...
  21. Hi- If they were truly hives, it sounds like an allergic reaction. But, there is a reaction with celiac called DH where the skin breaks out. I don't have it so I don't know much about it but there is a whole section of this board devoted to it (Dermatitis Herp.) But if the antihistamine worked, you could be dealing with an allergic reaction. There are...
  22. I teach college writing. Corinne- I wish I had seen your post earlier. Ffirst of all, com=ngratulations.... look how far you've made it to this point! If you can do that you can do anything! I bet you knocked 'em dead! let us know how it goes.
  23. I usually say that it's like a combination of stomach flu and a REALLY bad hangover that lasts for 3days- weeks. The look on their faces says it all.
  24. mommagoose- First of all, a (((((((((((((((((((HUG)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) I know how stressed you've been lately. And you're right, it's not always abaout Celiac (or physical health). Our emotions can wreak havoc with our bodies too. Another hug, B
  25. I was thinking the same thing. She may also be losing partially due to the diet and partially because her intestines haven't healed yet (not absorbing fats, proteins, vitamins). When I was first diagnosed, I had lost 60 pounds. 30 of the 60 was due to coming off a medication that made me gain a ton of weight, but the other 30 were just that I was really sick...
