I have a few questions that I have been curious about and I can't seem to find an answer to. 1. If I buy the Kraft Minute Tapioca, can I use that for Tapioca starch, or are they totally different things? 2. Is pure natural vanilla from Mexico gluten-free?? I have a HUGE bottle and I hate using the "fake" vanilla. 3. When we walk down the cooking...

I used the 9 x 5 pan, just as instructed. And I used the yeast packet that came with it. I am not sure if the yeast did what it was supposed to do when I put it in the milk. It was all lumpy and there were just a few bubbles coming up from around the lumps. Is this the way it is supposed to look? I have never really used yeast before, so I don't know what...

ARCHIVED What Do You Do For School?
ptkds posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have a 3rd grader and a kindergartener. I need some good suggestions for gluten free meals to send w/ them to school. And what can they have during parties? At this school, they have a snack bar and they don't follow the "no sugar" rules. I don't have a problem w/ that, but most of this stuff also has gluten. The snack bar is full of ice cream sandwiches... -
I just made my first loaf of bread. I used Bob's Red Mill bread mix. I followed all the instructions. I used my new kitchenaid 600 mixer. When I pulled it out of the oven, the bread had baked to be twice the height of the pan! It was about 5-6 inches over the top. It didn't even rise over the top before I put it in the oven. And it doesn't taste all that...

ARCHIVED Other Eliminations
ptkds replied to momothree's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have read that all kinds of things can affect personality. Things like garlic can even cause reactions. I belieive you can see an allergist and sometimes get an answer through those tests, but not always. Good luck and I hope you can figure everything out! ptkds -
ARCHIVED Should I Get Other Dd's Tested?
ptkds posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was just daignosed w/ celiac by a blood test, and my 17 m old dd was diagnosed by a blood test. We have 2 oder dd's ages 9 and 6. I really don't want to put them through the blood test but my dh does. He says he wants to have "proof" that they have celiac because he doesnt' feel comfortable telling people they have it without if being verified, especially... -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed And In Shock!
ptkds posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My dd was tested for celiac disease a few weeks ago and it was positive. So I got tested 2 weeks ago. I was told that the tests were negative, but the nurse called today. She said they got more results back and they are positive for celiac disease. I am in shock. I have been research celiac disease for a while now, and i know what I have to do to help... -
I got tested for celiac last week, and I just got the results back. They were all normal. The paper they sent me listed the tests they ran, and they were Gliadin AB, IGG, and IGA. My dd had a high IGG test result and I thought for sure that I would have the same thing. WE plan on having my dh tested, but I may also ask to have a biopsy because I have had...

ARCHIVED Country Crock Mashed Potatoes Reaction?
ptkds posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The other night, we had some Country Crock Homestyle Mashed Potatoes (the pre-made kind). My toddler loved them and spread them all over her face. Then she broke out where the potatoes had been. I can't confirm whether or not these contain gluten. I know they contain milk, and the only questionable ingredient I could find on there was Cultured Dextrose. I... -
ARCHIVED Odd Tooth Shape Related To Celiac?
ptkds posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My dd probably has celiac disease (we haven't had it confirmed yet). When she got her top front teeth, one was almost twice the size of the other. All her other teeth have come in an odd order. She is my 3rd kid, and my other dd's never had teeth coming in or looking like this. I know that tooth decay is related to Celiac disease, but could this be related... -
ARCHIVED Went To Gi Today. . He Said It Isn't Celiac
ptkds posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I took my 16 m old dd to the GI today. She had some blood work done by our ped to check for celiac, and she said it looked positive for celiac. So the ped sent the blood work results to the GI dr for our apt. today. The GI dr said he doesnt' think it is Celiac disease. He thinks it is "Toddler diarrhea" and told us to keep her off all fruit for about a... -
I was just wondering if anyone has used the grinder attachment on a Kitchen Aid stand mixer to make flour? I was thinking about getting a KA Pro mixer to make bread, and that is already expensive. So if I can get away with just getting a grinder attachment instead of a seperate grinder, I would be happy. So if anyone has experience with this, please...

ARCHIVED I Need More Of Yall's Wonderful Advice!
ptkds posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My dd may have celiac disease. We are going to the GI dr on Monday. Anyway, she doesnt' seem to be eating much. I am not sure if it is from celiac disease or something else. She is 16 months old, and here is what she ate today: 1.5 bananas (she threw half of the 2nd one on the floor), a little bit of milk, 1 pb&j sandwich and a whole cup of milk. That... -

ARCHIVED What's The Deal With gluten-free Flour?
ptkds posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I keep seeing recipes that use different kinds of flours. What is the deal with that? Is there some all-purpose gluten-free flour I can use to make bread and stuff? I haven't even started cooking gluten-free stuff yet, and I am totally lost. Also, are all spices gluten-free? Or are there certain brands I need to stay away from? I am so lost on this. One... -
ARCHIVED Dd Not Peeing Alot, Celiac Related?
ptkds posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 16 m old dd has been diagnosed with Celiac disease, but it hasn't been confirmed by a GI dr yet. Lately, DH and I have noticed that she doesn't have very many wet diapers. In fact, I could probably go all day without changing her if she didn't poop. And her nighttime diapers are really light, too. She is not dehydrated because she drinks lots of fluids... -
My 16 m old dd most likely has celiac disease, and I have been wondering about my 8 yr old dd. She has complained of tummy aches off and on for as long as she would talk. Now she has been having tummy aches, chest pain, and dizziness. The dr (not the same dr that tested my baby for Celiac) has given her a med for acid reflux that does no good, and he has...

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the wonderful advice! I have been all over the internet trying to learn about this diet. ARCHIVED What Infant Formula Is Gluten-free?
ptkds posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have a 15 m old dd who most likely has celiac disease, and i think my 5 m old dd also has it. She can't handle milk protien (even in soy). It gives her bloody diarrhea. So she has been on Alimentum since 1 month old. She was still having spitting up problems, and we realized that the powder Alimentum has corn, when the ready-to-feed doesn't. So now she... -
ARCHIVED Dd Probably Has Celiac Disease; Have Questions
ptkds posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hello everyone, I am new to this board. I found out today that my dd#3 (almost 16 months old) most likely has celiac disease. She had bloodwork done to check for it. We are going to the Ped. GI dr in about 2 wks. She has diarrhea most of the time and her tummy seems to get bloated. She also seems to have tummy aches sometimes. At first, I thought it was just...
