  1. I found this on my homepage today. The first possible cause they list is celiac disease!! I thought it was great publicity! Open Original Shared Link
  2. We are going to Minnesota in 3 wks, and I am worried about food. I have 3 kids and myself that have to be on a gluten-free diet. So I need cheap places that aren't fancy. We will be in Minneapolis, Deluth area (for a day), and mostly be in Marshall, MN. I have been looking online, and it doesnt' look promising in Marshall. Anyone know of safe places to...
  3. My mom was very specific about asking the waitress to make sure they cook the pancakes in a clean pan, and she asked that they not use any pancake batter in the omelotte. She didn't get sick at all. I just talked to her, and she is fine. I have been to Dennys a few times without a problem. I get the meat lover's omelotte, and it is yummy. Just don't get the...
  4. My mom went to IHOP yesterday w/ her dh and my brother. She said they had "corn cake pancakes" and they were gluten free! She said they tasted pretty good, too. So I called IHOP to see if this were true, and of course they wouldn't confirm. They told me to talk to the manager at the IHOP I go to. So, if you have an IHOP near you, call em up! They may have...
  5. I did this before going gluten-free. I ate chinese, pizza, doughnuts, big juicy cheeseburgers, fried chicken, pastas, etc. I had a hard time giving it up, but I don't cheat either. Whenever I consider it, I think of how the food will only last a few minutes on my tastebuds, but it will take me DAYS to get over it! So I dont' cheat, but I am tempted.
  6. Ok, this may be a stupid question, but I have never had to do it before going gluten-free. We just got a deep freeze, and I want to freeze some prepared meals, cookies, brownies, etc. My family loves Cheesburger Pie (crustless quiche type meal). It uses eggs. So, my question is, do I freeze it before I bake it, or after? I wasn't sure if it is safe to freeze...
  7. Try 2 eggs w/ the 1cup of PB and 1 cup of Sugar. That is how I do it, and they taste great. They are very moist, too. You just have to put enough eggs in there. I also add a handful of mini chocolate chips in mine, and my kids gobble them up. ptkds
  8. DH and i were thinking about starting up a gluten free bakery and selling online. It would require a HUGE investment, and I am not 100% sure if there is a good market out there for it. What do you guys think? I would offer bread, rolls, pizza crust, tortillas (flour type), maybe soft pretzels, and stuff like that. And maybe eventually offer mixes.
  9. You should do the blood work to make sure he isn't dehydrated. That is what the electrolyte test is for. Sorry your ds is going through this ptkds
  10. After I recieved that first email about Nesquik possibly being cross-contaminated, I emailed them telling them how they should go back to the old way of production so that the Nesquik won't be produced on the same lines as wheat-containing ingredients. This is their reply: June 4, 2007 Dear Ms. *, Thank you for contacting us. Your comments regarding...
  11. When we first went gluten-free, Nesquik was safe. I just went to buy some nesquik the other day and found a cc with wheat warning on the label. So I checked their website, and they didn't indicate it. I emailed them, and this is the response I got: Dear Mrs. * Thank you for taking the time to contact us about Nestl
  12. I was just about to ask the same thing! My dd is also on Medicaid. I think I will talk to her pedi about it. I am thinking that maybe, if she orders it, then medicaid will pay. The samples may have to be taken by the pedi, too, but that is ok with me. I LOVE my pedi, she is so understanding and supportive about all of this mess! ptkds
  13. If you stuck to a "gluten-free" label, your dd would be EXTREMELY limited, more than needed. Alot of companies refuse to lable their products as gluten free because of liability. But your dd can have Cocoa pebbles, trix, fruity pebbles, Dora cereal, and a few other mainstream cereals. None of these are labeled gluten-free, but they are safe. We eat them all...
  14. I have been using the Gluten free pantry bread mix, and it is wonderful. But the problem is, while it is baking, it rises too much on one side, and is just fine on the other side. It is always on the same side (the side facing the front of my oven.) I am suspecting that it is my oven, but I dont' know how to fix it. My oven is only 3 yrs old, and it is electric...
  15. I know exactly how you feel. Last night my dd had a Girl Scout "bridging to brownies" thing, and they served Pizza. I talked to the Assistant leader and told her I would bring brownies for all the girls, and my dd's own pizza. Well, they brought some brownies. And somehow my dd still got glutened, probably because they had them all crammed together on a table...
  16. I got the issue dated May 28th, and the article is not in there. So don't waste any money on it! Just wanted to spread the word! ptkds
  17. If your dd is in school, you also need to be aware of certain projects they do in class. Your dd shouldn't make the "macaroni necklaces" or anything w/ regular noodles. Floam is NOT gluten free. Moon sand is gluten-free, and my dd's LOVE it! It is late and that is all I can think of off the top of my sleepy head! ptkds
  18. I would TOTALLY use this medicine. I HATE this gluten-free diet w/ a passion, and I hate how my dd's feel about it. Even if we could only eat gluten occasionally, I would still use it. ptkds
  19. We took my youngest dd to the GI dr this morning because she has been having diarrhea for a few weeks. She saw the allergist about 1 1/2 wks ago, and he said that she probably isn't allergic to milk and corn (as I suspect) because her allergy testing (done when she was 4 months old) was negative for those. They also did a sweat test on her today to check...
  20. My MIL is kind of like that. She had a hard time understanding why I would put one of my dd's on a diet that wasn't "required" when she tested negative. I think what worked best was telling her that the dr wanted me to put her on it for a while and see how she felt. That kind of shut her up. So just blame the dr, and then they can't blame you. ptkds
  21. Just an FYI ~ Oats in general don't always cause a problem in celiacs. They are "forbidden" because they are often grown in fields that have been used to grow wheat, and they are processed on the same equipment as wheat. So there is a MAJOR cross-contamination issue. Oats often contain a trace amount of wheat. So you should not be eating them unless they...
  22. So, are yall saying that microwave popcorn is bad?? I eat it all the time (which is really wierd, because before I couldn't stand popcorn). I don't have a reaction at all. If I had to use an air popper all the time, we would NEVER have popcorn! Thanks, ptkds
  23. I am a SAHM of 4 wonderful kids. I am currently studying to be a Medical Transcriptionist. ptkds
  24. My youngest dd seems to have a milk-protien allergy and possible a corn allergy. Any ideas on what I can feed her? She isn't really gluten free, but I don't like to bring gluten into the house. So what can I give her? Please help me! I am running out of ideas. Thanks, ptkds
  25. I bought the most powerful one (don't remember the wattage). I LOVE it. I bought it at Kitchen Collections (they have a website), and got it for only $295, but it was refurbished. Still works great and is under warranty from Kitchen Aid. ptkds
