  1. I think you have found your answer. I have heard of ppl getting mouth blisters when they have gluten. My dd gets a bad stomach ache when she gets glutened. ANd my mom gets headaches when she gets glutened. Just ignore what others say and keep her on the diet. The improvement on the diet is a test by itself, and it came out positive. So you can tell ppl...
  2. I see you already found this board!! I posted on your topic on p.com and suggested you check out this site. So just read my reply over there! I don't want to repeat myself!! Oh yeah, it takes a little while to see a new post on here, but if you click on the "view new posts" link up on top, it will show it. ptkds
  3. I agree w/ everyone else. My dd was diagnosed when she was 16 months old. She was also my biggest dd at that age. She was around the 25th %. Then I was diagnosed after she was, and I am overweight. I definetly don't have a FTT problem! Ask for the test. I requested it on my dd and it came up positive. My ped didn't have a problem w/ doing the test, and...
  4. Has she been checked for diabetes? Increased appetite is one symptom of type 1 diabetes Just a thought. Good luck! ptkds
  5. I bought potato flour once (I don't remember where from) and it was kind of a tan color and had more of a flour texture. Then I ordered some potato flour from an online company and it is exactly like potato starch! It is labeled as p flour. I was just wondering if this is normal? Is potato flour always tan or can it be white and the texture of starch? Thanks...
  6. Last week, I bought a couple of mixes from the Gluten Free pantry because I had heard so many good things about them on here. So I got the sandwich bread mix and the muffin mix. I tried out the bread mix a few days ago, and the whole family LOVED it. Then this morning I tried out the muffin mix and made blueberry muffins w/ struedel on top. They were amazing...
  7. Good luck!! I can't believe that a GI dr thinks a child has to have an "indented buttock" to have celiac. So, would my dd's cute little dimples on her bum count?? ptkds
  8. IMO, you should just do what works for your dd. You don't need a dr's approval to put her on the gluten-free diet. My ped told us that my dd's blood levels indicated Celiac and referred us to a pedi GI dr. The GI dr called it "toddler diarrhea" and said he didn't think it was celiac disease. But when I tested positive for celiac, I took my dd off of gluten...
  9. Last night I decided to try out the recipe from Bette Hagmen for homemade egg noodles. Instead of rolling them out and cutting them by hand, I used a pasta roller/cutter. Then I boiled them for about 15 minutes (recipe directions). The actual taste was fine, but the texture was HORRIBLE! They were VERY mushy and absorbed most of the water from the pan. So...
  10. I feel the same way as you, especially at first. It is very overwhelming. Especially if your entire family is going gluten-free at home (like mine did). Here are some tips I learned: Make your own bread. I invested in a good Kitchen aid mixer for bread and pizza dough. Buy some of Bette Hagman's cookbooks. They are wonderful and I haven't had a recipe...
  11. That is great news! I bet that is a great relief to you. I am happy for you! ptkds
  12. Nikki, Please let us know how it goes. I am so sorry about this. I hope all is ok with her. Good luck ptkds
  13. I am so sorry you are going through all of this! To make a long story short, when my dd was having problems, I did some research and discovered celiac disease. I then asked my dd's ped to test her for it, and she did. It came back positive. So just ask your dr to test both of your sons and yourself. If he says it "isn't necessary", just insist. You...
  14. I have a friend that needed some support the other night. I couldn't go see her when she called, but I went later and she wasn't home. So I went and got her some flowers and a card and left it on her doorstep. So today she brought me a pie. It was very nice of her, but it is FULL OF GLUTEN! I have told her a few times that my dd's and I have celiac disease...
  15. Out of my 2 older dd's, I suspected that dd#1 would be positive, but dd#2 would be negative. DD#1 has alot of the symptoms, and dd#2 didn't. So when their blood tests came back and dd#1 was negative and dd#2 was positive, I was shocked. So yes, an asymptomatic child can definetly be positive. My dd#2 has looked and felt better since being gluten-free. And...
  16. My dd is the BEST sleeper I have out of all 4 of my dd's. She is also the 1st one in my family that was diagnosed. So I don't think her being a good sleeper is a sign of nothing wrong. My dd had diarrhea and some vomiting. And her tummy was only slightly bloated. And her gas and poop were HORRIBLE. She could outdo my dh, and that really says something! ...
  17. I had my oldest dd at the allergist's yesterday and I was giving him our family history. When I told him about my 20 m old dd having Celiac disease, he asked me if she had been tested for Cystic Fibrosis. I told him no, and asked him why. He said that they sometimes mimick each other, and cystic fibrosis is often misdiagnosed as celiac disease. Is this true...
  18. I was diagnosed w/ celiac through blood work a few months ago. I had decided not to get a biopsy done and I started the gluten-free diet. But now I have realized that may have been a mistake. My dd saw an allergist yesterday and he kept asking if my other dd and I had gotten a biopsy. Then he even questioned if it were really celiac since it wasn't "confirmed...
  19. My dd tested positive through bloodwork only (we didnt do the biopsy) when she was only 15 months old. I think she had it from birth because I had it when I was pg with her. She is now 20 months old and is doing great on the gluten-free diet! ptkds
  20. I was shopping this morning and I saw a new cereal on display. I checked it out, and it is gluten-free!!! It is "Disneys Little Einsteins Fruity Stars". There was another to. I don't remember the name of it cuz I didn't buy it. But it looked like Fruity rice crispies. They were both made by general mills. I was excited! Just wanted to share so others can...
  21. I got glutened last night, but I am not sure from what. It was 1 of 2 things: the Rotisserie chicken from Walmart, or the KC Masterpeice BBQ sauce. Has anyone been glutened from KC Masterpeice?? I emailed them, and got the response that "it may contain traces of gluten", which to me sounds like they just don't want to give me a straight answer! So please...
  22. Thank you all for your replies! It feels good to have so much support! I decided to "challenge" my dd w/ gluten since her tests were negative anyway. We were gonna wait until Feburary, but I decided to do it now so that maybe she can eat w/ her classmates. But I am still upset that her teacher would exclude her like that. I just don't think she realized...
  23. I hide food that I don't want my kids to get somewhere in my room or my bathroom closet! I have never had a problem like that, though. My dd's never wake up in the night and look for a snack. Mabybe you can use those magnetic tot locks like the pp said. And designate one certain "off limits" cabinet w/ the lock on it to keep your dd out. I have those on...
  24. So my 9 yr old dd has been on the diet since the beginning of December. I have talked to her teacher and given her all the lists and instructions about how my dd can't even come in contact w/ gluten and all of this. So I got this letter today that was sent out to all the parents from her teacher. They are preparing for the TAKS test, and the teacher wants...
  25. My kids eat cocoa pebbles almost daily w/out problems. And Trix are safe, now also. My toddler loves them and hasn't had any problems! I have eaten all of them too w/out a problem. Just read the box to make sure. ptkds
