  2. I agree, with luck eventually you can do it yourself or get a friend to help you do it. the difference is really worth it good luck!
  3. I have trouble with any of the green drinks with wheat or barley. Many people say they are gluten free but i've been sick too many times to believe that. Its too easy for the protein molecules to transmutate to the grass. SO, what you might like the best is to forgo the powdered mix and take the time to make it yourself. get a vitamix or omega or juiceman...
  4. Been working on Kauai again and today went to Sweet Maries Restaurant in Lihue. Great gluten free menu. Marie Cassel is Celiac and only serves gluten-free foods and baked goods. She is well known for brownies and muffins which are sold all over the island. I had polenta in marinara sauce which was all home made and amazingly good. Ken
  5. i eat a package of dry figs a week form many difference sources and never had any problems. The white is nature sugars when the figs dry.I have heard on the past that wheat starch might be used but have talked to producers in Greece and Turkey who say no. I consider myself very sensitive ( will cross the street to avoid being near a bakery door being open...
  6. there are a lot of other gluten free noodles popping up around Japan. Wheat allergies in children are growing at an alarming rate. The sorghum pasta is nice and ramen like fettuchini made from millet is great. ive had most of them and still like the juwari soba the best.
  7. it is pretty easy to make yourself once you get a good miso made with rice and not barley. I've been desperate enough to use gluten-free spaghetti noodles with miso. once you get your own broth you gonna really enjoy it
  8. My doc has been trying to figure this out for more than 7 years. My heart problems started after I got celiac in my 50s. They have tried to figure out why i have both atrial fibrulation and a flutter. ive had to have cardiac ablation which helped a lot but now its 3 years later and have some of the same problems. Just took back the monitor yesterday...
  9. i've missed ramen for 9 years. sadly its one of the most dangerous things you can have as celiac as most ramen is made from pure wheat. What you need to find is juwari soba which is pure buckwheat noodles. I make miso ramen often but use the soba instead. after awhile you'll like its flavor better. That said, you have to make sure its juwari or 100...
  10. Old thread but new topic. New restaurant in Waikaloa Village, Pueo Osteria has a great selection of gluten-free on the menu and the staff is very aware of our needs. Chef Jim Babian the owner is always willing to work on special requests if there i enough warning.
  11. i've stayed at friends and in resorts there. The best thing is to talk to the chef at the hotel your staying at. They did a great job for me at El San Juan and at the Wyndam. good luck

    ARCHIVED Soy

nothing really surprises me anymore with these allergies. We've added so many chemicals and hormones to what we eat that its just a matter of time before we start dropping like flies. supposed to be down under in march sometime but will stick to the fruit while there. This 80 -10-10 diet by doug graham seems to give my gut the least stress.

    ARCHIVED Soy

amazing-- they told me mine was from the animal protein molecules scraping the walls of my blood vessels throwing me into A-Fib. I think in almost 5 years since i went vegan I cheated maybe 5 times. Sunday I ate a drumstick form my wifes chicken -- went into a fib with a loud pop at 248 am and have problems ever since. See the cardiologist tomorrow...

hard not heard about the tick -- guess Texas seems an appropriate place to find it ..
  15. tokyo is a great place to work. had a place there for 30+ years. I used to have ramen everyday for lunch. back to the office and then pass out until 3. my partners laughed about it. Now I make the same recipe with juwari soba which you can get in grocery stores there. Juwari is the key. the food allergies are increasing greatly in Japan. especially wheat...

    ARCHIVED Soy

Thanks much, I do have to do the soy challenge. So far the only reaction seems to be heavy sweating and urination. no soy and it seldom happens unless I have tomato after 4pm. Thanks much
  21. Hi, with reference to the Japanese noodles, Udon is always wheat soba is usually buckwheat in japan but 99& of the time contains a percentage of wheat and not soba. If you can get juwari soba at some healthfood shops, thosse are ok. Ramen, saimen are all wheat good luck

    ARCHIVED Soy

Has anyone read anything on the number of celiacs that develop soy allergies after the celiac? After 9 years celiac I seem to have problems everytime with soy products like tofu. thanks
  24. same here - have had garbanzos from dozens of companies and other than salt and water i've never seen any other ingredients in the cans of plain beans. I am rather sensitive and never had any reaction from them.
  25. sounds like the waiter at a thai place here. I tried to tell him no flour so we took the flower off the table. A few years ago at the hospital here I tried to exlpain a celiac vegan diet so the kitchen sent me a tuna on whole wheat.. they just dont get it to even bother to try sometimes.
