  1. Hi Scott, I just spoke to EZGluten. Their test can find up to 10 ppm. Manufacturers are allowed 20ppm. So the vitamins probably have gluten. The only other reason they could test positive is from "some enzyme" included in the recipe. I'm not going to bother boiling this vitamin down to eliminate enzymes. I'm just not going to buy supplements anymore...
  2. Hi RMJ, I believe there is a more recent law regulating gluten labeling. If a product claims to be gluten free it has to test free of gluten. It can't just have gluten free ingredients. But I don't know whether vitamins are covered under this latest ruling. It does have soybeans but I don't think that's the problem, at least not for me. My real...
  3. Thanks for your reply RMJ. I'm going to call EZGluten tomorrow to try and get more info. It seems to me you can get false negatives, but unlikely that you can get a false gluten positive. But hey, I'm no chemist. In the meantime, it would be nice to hear from anyone who also might take, or has taken Bluebonnet supplements. It seems like a major brand...
  4. Hi all, I've been taking these everyday for the last month. When my hip inflammation got really bad I started to wonder if these vitamins had gluten. They claim to be gluten free. I just tested them with EZGluten and got a high positive reading. Are vitamins not covered by the new Federal Law? Has anyone else tested Bluebonnet?
  5. Hi Knitty kitty! Thanks so much for your help. I will look into it! Best, Charlotte
  6. Hi, I don't take medications that have gluten. My toothpaste etc. is gluten free. I've had blood tested for deficiencies. The only thing I can think of might be sliced cantaloupe from Whole Foods. So I've stopped eating that. Maybe their cutting boards have gluten? I don't know what the AP diet is. Many thanks
  7. Thanks Scott, I eliminated all dairy, oats, and soy right after my diagnosis. Funny enough I've just added dairy back in, (after the tests were taken however). I really need the calcium. So I'm drinking A2 milk which is delicious and doesn't seem to make anything any worse. The specialist thought my diet may have been too restrictive. I can't win...
  8. Hi Scott, Thanks for getting back to me. And thanks for sending the article. Not sure I understand my results any better though. I was diagnosed over a year ago with testing and an endoscopy. I know I'm celiac. This was the 5th follow up test to see if my gluten levels were dropping. My TTG was down from the initial 27, to 5 last fall but I still...
  9. Hi all, I was diagnosed last January and my TTG level is down to 4. The range is 1-3. My IgA test is within the normal range. I don't know what IgA is. My Glaiadin peptide AB IgG is way high, 86. The top of the range is 19. I'm waiting to hear back from my doctor but in the meantime, can someone tell me what IgG is? Is this a food allergy...
  10. I guess the bigger question is...what changes did you make, if any, and are you feeling better?
  11. Hi Scott, I'm thinking of getting an ALCAT test as well. Would love to know how the diet is working for you. Do you know if the test covers quinoa and buckwheat? I've temporarily given both of those up, (as well as corn and rice), and my intestinal inflammation has gone back down. So winter is approaching and I have no hot cereal options. I'd also...
  12. Does anyone know of a well informed dental practice in NYC that uses only gluten free treatments? Has anyone used or heard of this new toothpaste called Tartar End? https://tartarend.com/frequently-asked-questions/. The ingredients list carragenan which I don't like, but I don't think there's any gluten in it. I have really bad tartar buildup--- the...
  13. I was diagnosed with Celiac after having an endoscopy/colonoscopy in January. I highly recommend getting both done in one go. The colonoscopy revealed a very large polyp that would have become cancerous in a few years. The endoscopy ruled out stomach issues and other potential intestinal problems. The prep included drinking a vat of Gatorade. Really...
  14. Hi Scott, Does one's TTg level correlate to the area size of villi destruction? I wonder if we heal in patches as well. It would make a difference as to when certain foods can be tolerated, yes? As discussed earlier, I went off rice. It seemed to help and yet...my allergist says I should try it again to see what happens. Can you recommend...
  15. Hi Scott, Ancient Harvest Quinoa for breakfast. So much lighter than buckwheat. And yes, seems it still comes from the high Andes. Thanks for the reassurance on the GFness. On a different note...I'm wondering if gluten wears down intestinal villi in patches...like the high traffic areas of a carpet? Or is the destruction universal? And if as...
  16. Good to know! Thank you so much Scott.
  17. Hi again, Just wondering if you know whether Ancient Harvest's Quinoa cereal is safe. Doesn't seem to be certified-- but neither is Pocono buckwheat cereal and I've been eating that with no issues. Thanks for all your help!
  18. Just checked their site. The bread looks delicious, pricey, but delicious. However, I don't think it's available on the East Coast. The Farmer's Market in Union Square is supposed to have a great gluten-free baker. I just haven't gotten there since the pandemic.
  19. If you feel like switching from WF's bread, 3 Bakers' bread is Certified gluten-free and does not have sorghum or millet. Just found Simple Mills Almond flour crackers--grain free, Certified gluten-free. Delicious but very salty. Tomorrow I'm going to try some Pocono buckwheat hot cereal. It's not certified but they say they follow very strict gluten...
  20. Just out of curiosity, what bread do you buy? Crackers? When this whole thing started I had to get an abdominal ultrasound at NYU Langone. They had a special air purification system in the room. Felt really safe there. You will be in good hands. Hope your villi have responded well to all your efforts!
  21. Hi Melissa, I did find an allergist-- Dr. Joshua Grossman at NY Allergy & Sinus. We've only had a video visit so far. As you may have read, he thinks I may have developed an allergy to rice. As you know, once you quit gluten you end up with bread, cereal and crackers that are usually rice flour based. I was also eating it as is with dinner....
  22. Hi Kate, Thank you so much for your post. You give me hope! Your progress from 224 to 28 is truly impressive. I can't fathom how you kept yourself fed while you were doing the eliminations. As you say it's really hard to discern the causal relations between what you eat and your symptoms. I don't seem to react right away. There's a lag time so I just...
  23. I'm encouraged that you consider it a big drop! I'm such a newbie, I thought I was failing. However, if rice, as you say isn't the culprit, I don't know what to think. But maybe I've just been overdoing it? I will get the blood test tomorrow and in a few days report the results. If negative, you have carte blanche for a big I-told-you-so!
  24. Hi CMCM, It's hard enough being an adult dealing with this stuff. My heart really goes out to parents and kids slogging through this minefield. I will keep your advice in mind as I go through this weird process of elimination, or is it whack-a-mole?!
  25. Hi Scott, Just got off the phone with my new Allergist. My antibody levels have gone down from 27 to 10.6. So they have dropped but not disappeared. He's going to test for problems with rice. Since cutting out wheat, I'm eating lots of rice and rice based crackers, cereal. In answer to your other question, I don't eat out at all. ;(.
