ARCHIVED Numbers Still Elevated?
crittermom replied to crittermom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
WE FOUND IT!!!!! Mrs. Butterworth's original syrup has apparently changed their formula and consider barley a natural flavoring but since it is not one of the major 7 allergens they don't have to list it. AND Uncle Ben's Roasted Chicken Long Grain 90 second rice is no longer gluten free. Both of these were considered gluten free back in Oct of 06 so I... -
ARCHIVED How Often Should Companies Be Called
crittermom posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
How often should I call each manufacturer to double check recipes? I had called about 10 months ago and have been checking lables however I have found that in that time Mrs. Butterworths and Uncle Bens have changed their statements. I also found out that Arm & Hammer Laundry Detergent and Palmolive will not guaruntee gluten free. TIA -

In My search today I have found out some interesting things. Arm & Hammer Laundry soap cannot guaruntee that their product is gluten free. They do not add gluten however they can't prevent possible CC from manufacturers shipping in ingredients. The same for Palmolive Dish Soap. -

ARCHIVED Are Water Fountains At School Safe?
crittermom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Does anyone know if cross contamination can occur at water fountains in elementary schools? I had spoken with a friend who has a daughter with a peanut allergy and apparently many children can go into shock do to peanut exposure from water fountains. It got me thinking about celiacs, if a child eats a sandwhich and then drinks from the fountain.... Anyone... -

Thanks susan! That is good to hear. You know the kids are resilient but it's a mom's job to worry! I make home made mac and cheese and hide an egg in it that she doesn't know about, so at least there is some comfort that she is getting some of that egg as well! SOmetimes we just have to be tricky! -

Thanks Andie, I have tried lots of those suggestions to no avail but there were some good new ones in there! I think you nailed it with the control thing. She does choose parts of her meals, if I let her choose all it would be gluten free cheese and mac for every meal! I add meats and veggies to the favorite she picks. I have seen a trend that if I prepare... -

We do have gluten food in the house because I live with my parents right now (husband just got back from the middle east) but it is put where she can't get it. My parents are about the most supportive people when it comes to this! My dad won't give her anything but fruit because he is afraid to make her sick and my mom is like a gluten buster! I have all... -

OK, so I talked to the GI nurse today about Katharine's levels still being elevated. When I spoke with her I asked her to varify Katharine's IgA results that I received yesterday and yes after 1 year she is at 80.1 (she started at 104). I can't imagine that she has been there, because she was feeling better I think that she has gotten gluten somewhere lately... -

Hi Everyone, I haven't posted in a while since I thought we were doing well. However I just got our bloodtests back from our 1 year checkup and her numbers are still WAY elevated. I am not sure how long the antibodies take to drop. She started at 120, was down to 104 and one year later she is at 80.1 The doctor wants her under 20. The numbers are on... -
ARCHIVED Brach's Christmas Taffys
crittermom posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Everyone, First of all thank you very much for the information on the corn tortillas. The ones from Wal Mart have solved our problems. Katharine is back to normal and she is feeling great. And we could keep one of her favorite snacks. Now here is my next question. Does anyone know if the Christmas Tree Taffys from Brach's are gluten free. Their... -

I am so glad I found this thread! I am traveling with my 4 year old daughter, diagnosed celiac 1 week ago and my son who is allergic to dairy and soy with reflux on friday. We are visiting my husband before he leaves for Kuwait. Food would never keep us away from this visit, but jeez, it has been a real anxiety for me the last few days. I am going to call... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free But Strange Bowel Movements?
crittermom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ok, so we have been gluten free for 3 days now and Katharine seems to be feelingbetter. She is starting to accept the new foods as well. However, I have noticed now that her bowel movements are very loose and she went about 5-6 times today instead of her usual 2. Could this be her body cleaning out? I have read in a few posts that often children become lactose... -
ARCHIVED Baby Has Reflux, Need Some Help!
crittermom replied to taweavmo3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh yes, hyperactive letdown, now that is fun stuff right there! Another trick for this is to nurse your baby with the baby up from the breast or laying on top of the breast with you in a reclined position. This causes the forceful letdown to have to fight gravity and also if the baby is on top of a reclined breast the extra milk will "pool" around the breast... -
Ok, well the three replies I have gotten have been AMAZING! Thanks to you all so much, but I already have another question. What is hidden gluten and how do I know if it is there if it is "hidden"?

ARCHIVED New To Celiac
crittermom replied to crittermom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Andrea, We do have pets, 1 dog, 3cats, and 4 fish, however that's not the reason for the screen name. When I was pregnant with Katharine we could not pick a name to save our lives! We just dubbed her "critter". We picked Katharine 3 days before she was born, however the "critter" stuck as her pet name. -

OH DO I HAVE HELP FOR YOU!!!!!! A little history first....I was in your place about 1.5 year. My son is 19 months and just weaned from the breast 2 weeks ago. He is on 30 mg prevacid split 2 times per day. You said that you took dairy and gluten from your diet, how about soy. It wasn't until I took everything out, if it had soy written on the ingredients... -
Hi Everyone, My name is Melissa. I have a 4 year old daughter, Katharine. She was diagnosed with Celiac this past friday and is also allergic to peanuts. Here is some history. About 12 months ago I started noticing Katharine not having much of an apetite which was scary because she is a extremely picky eater to begin with. She also starting complaining...
