  1. We had a great dr appt. I showed the GI the food diary I had kept and told her that all of Michael's ailments had dissapeared on a gluten-free diet. She said and I quote " hey if it's working for you, stick with it!" She said there was no medical reason for him to be gluten-free since the bw and biopsy were both negative however if he is responding to it...
  2. I went on the Candida diet when I was first diagnosed with Fibromyalgia hoping it was actually a full body yeast infection. (It wasn't) On this diet you can't eat anything that feeds yeast. Basically I was eating meat and veggies, no fruits with some spices. I went through absolutely terrible withdrawals. I couldn't figure out how this was suppose to...
  3. So Michael has been completely gluten-free for 10-12 days. He was doing beautifully. BM's completely normal with no signs of undigested food AT ALL! He was also only voiding 1-2 times per day instead of 4-6. His appetite has skyrocketed, no more mood swings or temper tantrums and the rash on his cheek has dissapeared. (don't know if that is gluten related...
  4. We went gluten free all the way with both of our kids. We explained to the them that "that food makes your tummy hurt, lets try this one instead" and we offer them something gluten-free that we know they like. Have you tried the Perky O's for a Cheerios substitute? Michael loves them. Michael's biopsy came back normal but we still put him gluten-free and...
  5. Katharine complains of leg pains when she gets glutened as well. However if you are sure she has not been glutened...I don't have Celiac however, I actually get tingling numb toes and I spoke to my chiropractor about it today. He said that SOMETIMES the muscle that goes around your sciatic nerve can get very tight from sitting, standing, or even sleeping...
  6. We use Tom Sawyer All Purpose Gluten Free Baking flour for all of our baking. The flours are already mixed along with the gums. I can use all of my old recipes and just substitute the Tom Sawyer flour for whatever wheat flour I used to buy. It is a one to one ratio. For instance, if the Nestle Tollhouse cookie recipe says 2 1/2 cups flour, you use 2 1/...
  7. Paula First I would revisit the idea of testing the kids with your ped not only the celiac panel but for HLA genes as well. Here is what we have experienced... I have been dealing with the green bm's with undigested food for months with my ds. The GI told me that green stools are considered normal.... I don't buy it. Michael was having 4-6 bm's per...
  8. BM hit just after the original post. After the crackers last night Michael returned to large green poop with food pieces present... I think we have our answer, no more gluten for us!
  9. Hi Everybody, I just have to shout out I am so happy! I received my shipment of gluten free crackers and graham crackers today. Glutino ritz style, Glutano soda crackers, and Jo Sef graham crackers, honey and chocolate. I opened them up, my kids tried one and it was like a shark feeding frenzy! Michael LOVED the crackers and graham crackers and...
  10. We had Michael gene tested when Katharine was diagnosed. He carries genes making him predisposed to Celiac. That is why we were following the celiac route, apparently we were on the wrong route though. Now we have to look at other reasons. We are however going to introduce a gluten free diet to see if that helps.
  11. They were negative for celiac disease and showed no irritation. So why is my son eating next to nothing pooping 5-6 per day and not digesting a good bit of his food? Well the GI is putting him on an antispasmadic medication to help with the stomach aches. I am starting a diary today. I am leaving him on gluten for one more week and then I am going gluten...
  12. Michael had his biopsy today and he is doing fine. Everything went smoothly. His esophagus and stomach and the colonoscopy looked good. However the duodenum was "suspicious" the GI told me "this is suppose to look like a fuzzy carpet, Michael's looks flat" She said that it is indicative of Celiac but she won't know until the tests come back. She sent...
  13. We use the Kinnikinnick Chocolate cake mix. Turns out great every time. Make sure the beat the eggs oil and water for the full time. The extra air in the liquid helps it be fluffy. I make either a homemade buttercream icing or if I am short on time I use Pillsbury Creamy Supreme Chocolate, Vanilla or Cream Cheese icings.
  14. My daughter is in Kindergarten and I bake all the treats for the class parties. I bake cupcakes and cookies using Tom Sawyer Flour. You can only get it online, at least where I live. www.glutenfreeflour.com This flour is AWESOME. It is a one to one ratio and takes the guess work out of baking gluten free treats. Get out any of your "old" cookbooks...
  15. Has anyone had a problem with Hebrew National Beef Franks? I called and they said that they are gluten free and they are very strict about CC however Katharine got really sick today from G. These are the only things that changed. Just wondering if anyone else had a problem.
  16. Our dietician told us the same about Michael, to give him high fat foods to add calories. Michael really liked mixed veggies so I started adding butter to them. He would eat corn on the cob with butter as well. Not very healthy but potato chips are a good source of fat. As suggested earlier I would cook some of his meat with bacon grease or just give...
  17. Michael's upper GI and small bowels came back normal. The doctor has scheduled a scope for the first week in Feb. We are also doing a stool sampling to look for blood. Since we have taken him off the prevacid his bm's are still strange and now he is crying about everything again...
  18. My son Michael was born with infant reflux. There are a few suggestions I can make that helped with Michael. His reflux will still come back on occasion but he has basically outgrown it. 1. We always found that Prevacid takes at least 2-3 weeks to reach theraputic levels and to really see a difference even if we were upping the dosage. 2. You...
  19. Update... The Upper GI went smoothly. My little guy is such a brave little trooper! He didn't cry at all! The first doctor said that everything looked normal thus far. We had to wait an hour because the GI wanted to take a look at the small bowel. The doctor said they got a good picture for this but didn't expand on what he saw. I am hoping to hear from...
  20. My Katharine had THE largest bm's I have ever seen out of a child in my life. I kept saying to my mom I have no idea where this poop is coming from! She also had blood in her stool. The dr thought that she might have a fissure due to the size of her movements. They prescribed suppositories (sp?) but they didn't work. Her bm's were still huge but now they...
  21. Katharine gets lethargic and extremely defiant and aggressive at the same time. Most things set her off, she doesn't want to eat and she is just plain ol'cranky. She also gets mad cause she gets a rach on her tush and it itches bad.
  22. Well Michael's celiac panel came back negative. His sed rate was elevated which was probably his cold, and his hemoglobins are down. They have mailed a card for fecal collection to look for blood in his stool. If that is negative we will assume it is iron levels. He has an Upper GI scheduled for tomorrow in radiology at 7:45 am. We will see how that turns...
  23. So I have been watching Michael's bms and they have not turned white or gray like Katharine's did but I have been noticing that his food is coming through more and more undigested! He had French Fries today and at just over 1 hour he had bm and the french fries came out exactly how they went in. There was even one that he swallowed half of whole and the...
  24. I breastfed my ds for 2 years on a very strict diet. He had infant reflux until 22 months. I began a food diary in the beginning and recorded everything I ate, his reactions, night wakings, refluxing, and bowel movements. I too thought in the beginning that tomato was the culprit and it was the same, spaghetti one night, lasagna then next and pizza on another...
  25. Hi Rosa, Be careful with bananas, they are binding, at least for us! They things I use most often during C is fresh pineapple, 100% pure cherry juice, and blueberries! A bowl of blueberries at breakfast, and like clockwork that evening my kids a poopin' like crazy! They don't get D they just go a lot! Good luck and I hope he is feeling better...
