  1. The Nacho Cheesier Doritos packages I have read list wheat flour as one of the ingredients. You have to read each package, each time, because ingredients change.
  2. I emailed General Mills about the modified food starch in the Lucky Charms cereal, and was told that General Mills specifies in the ingredients list any gluten-containing product used in their products. If it does not say wheat, barley, or rye, it is gluten-free. They are trying to accomodate us!
  3. My husband made one of those "I can't believe..." comments on the phone, but he followed it with "Wow, even just a tiny bit does that much damage!" His tone of voice told me he had realized something significant. I just wish others would!
  4. Julie, I, too, felt alone until I found this board. It is wonderful, knowing that we are not going through this alone. I don't think of it as "misery loves company", but "someone truly understands."
  5. Hi Mari! I know that feeling! At 19, kids don't know very much. Does she realize that she might develop celiac disease later? My dad and siblings never argue about me being gluten-free, they saw how mom died. I did have a "friend" who told me that there is no such thing as "allergies" and "intolerances" and that my whole problem was not eating enough...
  6. Since I went totally gluten-free, I have had a reduction of 80% in my need for decongestants. My nose does not run as much, and I do not itch all over. I am hoping that this relief continues when the flowers start to bloom!
  7. I have never heard of the Eat Right For YOur Blood Type Diet. Where can I learn more about this? I am game for anything that will make me feel better, especially if all I have to do is change my eating!
  8. OK, UPS brought my gluten-free pasta today. It was so good, I ate two big servings! How do I keep from overeating on the foods that I love, and now can eat? I just do not seem to have enough self-control! I am glad to have found these foods, though! How do you measure, and keep track of the calories?
  9. I have a question about accidents: If we discover our mistake within 20 minutes, will throwing up stop the reaction? Or will it cause even more problems? I ate three Pria bars, which have barley malt in them, and while I was eating the last one, learned that barley malt is bad! That was yesterday, last night and now I am just miserable! If I had gone...
  10. I have been reading and reading and reading, and decided that I love this site! I learned that Pria bars are not gluten-free, (but too late, I already ate several before learning) and that others have the same frustrations and problems. Thank you for being here!

    ARCHIVED Frustrated

Guppymom, You also don't have to worry about whether you can get an appointment, if the equipment is clean, or if the tech is really licensed! I like having control, it makes it easier for me to cope. How wonderful to hear you talking with your child about it, she needs your help. My kids are not intolerant, they got their dad's genes in that respect...
  12. guppymom, I understand how you feel about your mom. My mom knew, but refused to give up her favorite foods. She died a terrible death, shortly after she turned 63. Her brothers and sisters exhibit symptoms, but won't give up the food. I am glad that you are, your children will love having you around for a long time. I agree about not wanting to...
  13. Hhmm, my question, too. Water is gluten-free, so ice made from it would, logically, be gluten-free. Unless "water ice" is a new product somewhere?
  14. Thank God for being poor! My family was poor when I was a child, so we ate what grew in the vegetable garden, and whatever Grandpa slaughtered, with very little money for bread, pasta, and the like. That is probably why I did not have any celiac disease symptoms until I was an adult, married to a man that loves his bread and pasta! I very quickly gained...
  15. It sounds like your body is detoxifying. Since food reactions can take up to 6 weeks to completely clear our systems, you will need to be patient. I wish you the best!

    ARCHIVED Do You Recommend Biopsy?

Sorry, folks. After being gluten-free for two weeks, I ate one roll. Big Mistake!! Whew! No biopsy or blood test is worth that agony! I will just have to do without the "Gold Standard!" ~dessa~
  17. Hi. I'm new to the site. I have been searching for any help and support for gluten intloerance, and instead found problem intolerance! No one wants to know or help! I hope I can find what I need here. Since going gluten-free on Valentine's Day, my health has drastically improved, so I am not going back!
  18. how funny to read this! My mom died because she kept eating foods she was not supposed to, and it made her bowels rupture. Her dad was very Irish, and had crippling arthritis! My friend has a son that cannot breathe, is obese, and has diarhea all the time. She suspects food allergies, but refuses to consider celiac disease because he is not "wasting"...
