Celiac.com - Celiac Disease & Gluten-Free Diet Support Since 1995

Everything posted by plantime

  1. I'm glad your son is getting tested so quickly. Just do not put on gluten-free diet until after the biopsy. This diet is a real life-saver, literally. Even as expensive as some of the foods are, it is still cheaper than medication and surgery, and we can live relatively normal lives! Since your son is so young, if he is celiac disease, he will not develop...
  2. My sister calls mine raccoon eyes. They get extremely dark any time I get into something I shouldn't, from gluten to pollen to mold. If I manage to stay away from triggers, they lighten up to almost normal. Makes me want to wear sunglasses all the time!
  3. Sarah, I think you lived every mother's nightmare about not loving her baby! I am soooo glad you were able to resolve the problem! Daddy will certainly never forget being the very first to hold his son! Lily, I was shocked to see you refer to consuming gluten as a poisoning. It did make me stop and realize that for our bodies, that is exactly what it...
  4. I use the quinoa pasta from the gluten-free Mall, with real cheddar cheese. It tastes real good, and doesn't change consistency after a couple of minutes. Sugary cereals? I hear Cocoa and Fruity Pebbles are gluten-free, Honeycombs has oats, but most of the others use wheat in one form or another. You have to read the individual label on each box. Good...
  5. I have to avoid all egg and poultry. The migraine just is not worth eating them! Thanks for the info, I will be looking for these things!
  6. Does zyrtec have gluten in it? Whenever I take it, I get sick the same way I do when I accidently contaminate myself. I did not find it on the gluten-free list of medications. How do I find out?
  7. The OS that treated me after a car accident said the SI joint is actually in the pelvis. It does not touch the spine at all. It is the joint that allows the pelvis to swing and pivot so we can walk and twist. The Sacrum is the joint that actually touches the spine. If you definitely have SI problems, and have problems walking, ask if your Ichy ligament...
  8. Scratch Lucky Charms from the list. The new box I opened and ate from yesterday, without reading the label (shame on me, I know better!), has wheat starch listed between vitamin D and vitamin E at the bottom. Why do they have to change formulas? If it isn't broken, don't fix it!
  9. Pinning just means that the topic is where it belongs on the board. It is more of a note to the other moderators that it has been checked by one of them. Your post winds up at the end because it is the most recent. Look at the dates and times, and you should see them to be in chronological order.
  10. Jessica, remember to keep drinking lots of water! DH and DS both get them, and the doctor recommended strong tea, cranberry juice, and LOTS of water to help flush them through. If they are too big, maybe a laser treatment will be called for. I wish you the best and speediest recovery.
  11. Does anyone know if mayo can be made without eggs?
  12. Dizziness after eating gluten? YES!!! I think it might be because it wrecks havoc on my mucous membranes.
  13. I don't know about an Asian market, but we do have a mexican store. I will have to check them out. Thanks!
  14. Nerdz, I live in a small town in Kansas, and it takes an hour to get to the nearest decent healthfood store. We are quite poor, just a click above the poverty level, so I don't have much money to spend on "my" food. I just use fruits, veggies, and meats, and fix the meals from scratch. That way, I can hoard what I do get of breads and pastas, so it doesn...
  15. Just about the only symptoms I did not have are the diarrhea, wasted buttocks, and bloated stomach. I will add to the above lists: constant headaches, migraines, swollen sinuses, and severe heartburn and indigestion. The last time I ate gluten, my eyelids swelled almost shut, and I did get diarrhea, so I think the symptoms are not predictable. Hidden sources...
  16. Hapi, Overreacting? Not on your life! No processed foods and only what you prepare is pretty much the only guarantee a celiac has of uncontaminated food. I think (IMHO) that you should at least have the gene test done on your child, since celiac disease is genetic. I don't think there would be any problem with breastfeeding, as long as the mom is getting...
  17. I am glad you are happy. I do have an issue, though. If the pure extracts stayed in the vial, then they never came in contact with your system. I do not believe you can have any kind of a reaction to something that does not make contact with your system. It could be you are allergic to the vial itself, or your arm grew tired, or anything else. I just...
  18. Heather, General Mills Lucky Charms and Post Honeycomb Cereal have no gluten in them. They are what I eat for cold cereal, because I can put them in a baggie and use them for a sweet snack. It is different now that it is in your house. Since your mom has it, have you been tested? It is genetic, so you or your spouse are at least carriers. Keep coming...
  19. You need to read labels every time, without fail. If you see wheat, barley, or rye, do not give it to her. Anything that says "wheat allergens" is a no-no. Of course, you could always just give her meat, veggies, and fruit, with no processed foods or grains. I like Celiac.com for my information, and the Gluten Free Mall for foods. Just do not forget...

    ARCHIVED Leaving

If you are seeing something bad, speak up! Just how does anyone on this board have any "might" over any one else? I am glad for this board, because it gives me links that I wouldn't otherwise have found. I haven't yet spoken to my doctor about having celiac disease or intolerance, I want to get the test done at Enterolab first. People are just telling...
  21. One of the food allergy tests that I have done is to take your pulse before eating, eat some of a single food, then 20 minutes later take your pulse again. If it is faster, you might have an allergy. celiac disease does have an increased incidence of food allergies.
  22. Gillian, How eerie to read what you wrote! I have been completely gluten-free since 2/14/04, and yesterday this horrific appetite kicked in! It was waking me up at night, and no amount of eating satisfied it for more than two hours. I will try adding protein to each meal, and fewer snack-type foods to see if that helps. Thank you for the advice!
  23. I am glad to see that they are being consistant! I am also glad to have the assurance from them. I got the same response from Con-Agra, in regards to ALL Con-Agra brands. Now I know that I can just check the labels on certain brands. I called Quaker about their oats, and was told that they are processed on a dedicated line. I can't control, and neither...
  24. I called Quaker about their oats, and was told that they do process on a dedicated line. Quaker will not guarantee wheat contamination from the field, though. Does McCann guarantee no field contamination?
  25. I eat a lot of beef, pork, potatoes, veggies, fruits. I just left out the grains, until I found the Gluten Free Mall! Now, I use the flours and pastas from there. I do not feel deprived: when my kids had Pizza Hut, I just made myself one of my pizzas. I know it costs more, and takes more work, but I feel so much better!
