President Bush Signs Allergen Labeling Bill
Last night, President Bush signed the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA / S. 741) into law.
Every call, letter, meeting, petition, and crayoned picture paid off.
Thanks to you -- the celiac community -- we beat incredible odds and got this bill passed.
Congratulations!!

Sometimes it is the little things like the perfect pasta dish that keep us motivated to keep trying. One little succes is sooooo worth 20 flops!!

That is how I felt at first also, but it does get better. You will get more used to the texture of the different flours.

I'm not sure about the elevation thing. Hopefully someone else knows the answer to that.
Mine is more of a question. How long have you been gluten free? I know when I first went gluten free, pretty much everything baked with gluten-free flours tasted gross!! It is a completely different texture to get used to. Now that I have been gluten free for some time. I LOVE the foods. I think that it takes some getting used to and adjustment. Just my two cents

The vitamins of Nature Made that are Gluten free directly say "Gluten Free" on the bottle in bold letters
They are an awesome company that actually tells us what is safe and what is not .
Hope that helps.

You might try wearing one of those surgical/allergy masks. That would limit anything you breathe in. Also try wearing long sleeve shirts and long pants/jeans. I would also maybe wear some cotton gloves. When you get home, take a shower!!

Viactiv Calcium Chews are gluten-free. Not sure if ALL the flavors are, but I eat the chocolate ones and it is MUCH better than swallowing a HUGE tablet.
*just a note, not ALL naturemade vitamins are gluten-free. You have to read the label and it will state if it is gluten free.

I use bob's red mill all the time with xanthan gum. It is a cup for cup replacement for wheat flour.

I thought it was a pretty darn good segment seeing as it was under 5 min. long. I was impressed with the amount of information that Dr. Hoffenberg got into the segment. Always a good thing to get information out!!

Powerade is also gluten-free. It is made and distributed by the Coca Cola company.

House of Representatives Passes Allergen Labeling Bill HIP HIP HORRAY!!!
House of Representatives Passes Allergen Labeling Bill
Tonight the U.S. House of Representatives, under the leadership of Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY), passed the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (S. 741).
This landmark legislation will require the top 8 food allergens [milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat and soy] to be listed on food labels by January 1, 2006.
The bill also requires the FDA to develop rules for the use of the term 'gluten-free' on product labels by January 2008.

Your girlfriend should not be eating corn pops. They began adding wheat to their ingredients begining january 1st of this year. There is however, the malt-o-meal brand of corn bursts (like corn pops) that are fine for her to eat. I would hate to have her getting sick because of a silly cereal.

Be careful when using things like Immodium to stop diarrhea. Diarrhea is your bodys way of getting rid of the toxins. If you put a stop to that with the immodium you are just keeping the toxic stuff inside for longer. I say let it run it's course, drink pleanty of fluids and get some rest.

One of the doctors at the National Institue of Health Conference on Celiac Disease last month said that to him an IBS diagnosis means "I Be Stumped"! ha I had to laugh at that one. SOOOO TRUE!! And it even came out of the mouth of a doctor!!

I tried oats a couple of months after being diagnosed. I got a rumbley tummy and felt cruddy (this was with McCaan's oats). I avoid them.

I agree, eating out is not always about the food. Go and enjoy the company and conversation. You don't have to be a shut in just because you can't have gluten!! Enjoy live, just modify it.

I'm not sure if this lady still caters, but I'm pretty sure that is how her company started. The website says she is a personal chef. I have never tried her foods, but many RAVE about her bread products. You might contact her to find out some information. The company is Manna by Anna.

I personally like the CSA product guide. It is updated yearly (october usually). It has lots of great information. I would recommend it for EVERY newbie to the gluten free diet. It is a total life-saver!!
You can get it online: Open Original Shared Link it costs about 20$.
As far as the college thing goes. I would recommend sitting down with the food services director, and the school dietician to set up meals for your kiddo.
