  1. IBS is just a generic diagnosis when they have no clue what is going on. If they have run several tests or tried several things without a diagnosis of something else you are usually lumped into the IBS category. One doctor at the NIH Conference on celiac said that IBS stands for "I Be Stumped" soooooooooo true!!! -Jessica
  2. Orville Reddenbacher popcorn cake (caramel flavor is what I use) Hershey Chocolate Bar Kraft Mini Marshmallows (jet puffed brand) Peanut Butter (jiff or skippy) Spread the peanutbutter on the popcorn cake, top with hershey chocolate bar broken into chunks, top with several mini marshmallows. Microwave for a few seconds until the marshmallows...
  3. If you ask for the chicken to not be cut it will be fine. Have them place the chicken breast on your salad whole and you will be fine, you can cut it yourself. The knife that is used to cut the chicken is the problem. It is used for both the crispy and grilled chicken which would make the salad contaminated if you do not ask for it to be put on the salad...
  4. You are welcome to use my letter. Copy and paste the letter and send it as an email is the fastest way for me personally. Good luck with your letter writing campaign in the UK!!! Let us know how that goes. -Jessica
  5. Thanks, I'll check it out. -Jessica
  6. Do you have a link to the article?? -Jessica
  7. A more united front is going to help us more than "every month is national celiac awareness month" that just sounds hokey As far as I know October is the month. -Jessica
  8. Wow sounds like we celiacs need to get things together!!! I have always known it to be in October!! That is why most of the walks and such are held twards that time and I know CSA sponsors October as awareness month. I know a lot of you do not care for CSA, but all organizations need to work together on things like this. Any thoughts as to how we can get...
  9. Things that are poreous such as wooden spoons DO need to be replaced or only used on gluten free or gluten full foods. They can trap nasty things in them and make you sick. -Jessica
  10. When I was first diagnosed it was a godsend!! I would highly recommend it to any newly diagnosed celiac. It gives you some guide as to what foods are safe and gives you a little hope that the world isn't over. I did not re-order it this year because I "have the hang of things" now. I have the two previous years and I occasionally do go back and look...
  11. All of the M & M's are gluten free EXCEPT the crispy ones in the blue bag. -Jessica
  12. I use the mission white corn tortillas all the time. I think that the white corn is more foldable/easier to work with than the yellow corn. Use them to make enchiladas, tacos, mini pizzas, quesadilas, cheese roll ups, tons of things. -Jessica
  13. The grilled chicken IS gluten-free, however you need to ask for it not to be cut up. The only thing that makes it NOT gluten-free is the contamination with the knife if it is cut/diced. Have them put it on the salad whole and you can cut it up yourself. -Jessica
  14. Just buy some extra candy and trade her piece for piece. Go through the bag, seperate out the good from bad. Take the bad pile and trade her the exact amount of safe candy!! Give the uckey candy to someone else or just throw it away. That way everybody wins. -Jessica
  15. *Rollerskating *Movies *extra recess (over the intercom announce that 2nd grade has done such an awesome job this week that they are needed outside for a free recess, the PTO then supervises the recess which gives teachers an extra break too for being so great) *dance (play tons of music and let the kids dance, they LOVE it, especially seeing the...

  17. Hang in there!! Sometimes things happen for a reason. This boy may not have been the right boy for you if he is treating you like this. OR he could just be trying to deal with it also, but no clue how to tell you he is worried. Either way, things will come around and you will be a stronger person because of it. -Jessica
  18. Amy's has some great frozen dinners. Their cheese enchiladas even come in a family serving (like 9 or 10 enchiladas in a pan). They have a great rice crust pizza, I just add my own toppings to it because it's a cheese pizza. Also Kraft has a new line of south beach diet meals. I have found 2 of those that are ok for us. Kraft will not hide any gluten...
  19. By no means do I "hide" and not eat out, however I refuse to put money into places that refuse to give out nutritional information on a corporate level. Why give someone money that isn't willing to cooperate and help you?? NO thanks. -Jessica
  20. I refuse to eat at applebee's. They are one of the establishments that give us the CYA statement when you try to find out nutritional information. I refuse to pour money into a place that doesn't even attempt to meet my needs!! I won't do it. BTW: Charcoal is made of corn and wheat according to the Kingsford charcoal company. They claim that it burns...
  21. Not for sure on this, trying to still do some checking, but I believe it is an Australian today show that is having the segment. -Jessica
  22. Just thought I would share my response from 30 min. meals on the food network. -Jessica
