angel-jd1 replied to lipreader's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There is a children's book called "Eating Gluten Free With Emily" by Bonnie J. Kruszka. I personally really think this book is great! I read it to my 2nd grade class while doing my student teaching. They liked it, and got it!! However when I read the word "diarrhea" everyone cracked up! ha I think it's well worth the money!! Great book. You can... -

ARCHIVED Great Value Products From Walmart :)
angel-jd1 replied to rweintritt's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm curious how you even go ahold of them to find out. I was given the name of a lady and told that if I made a list of what I wanted to know was gluten-free she would get back with me. I wrote her several times and never heard a thing back. I gave up on trying to contact anyone from wal-mart. -Jessica -

I think that the CSA book is great for a newbie. It really lets you see that life is not over because you can't have gluten. It shows several of the regular mainstream products that you can purchase. I called it my gluten free bible for the first two years!! I think it's well worth your money as a newbie. As previously stated you still need to do...

ARCHIVED How Did You Tell Your Friends/family?
angel-jd1 replied to Suezboss's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Celiac Disease isn't something that goes away. Doctors used to THINK it went away, but it doesn't. If she had it as a baby, she STILL has it. Convince her to go gluten free with you, otherwise she is doing terrible damage to her body!!! On the topic of the question. It wasn't really something I had to tell my family, they already knew. I was sick... -

ARCHIVED Gluten In Beef/chicken/turkey
angel-jd1 replied to mandigirl1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Like Richard said, the grain that is fed to the animals does not transfer proteins into the muscle. The proteins are broken down in the stomach to make energy for the animal to survive on, but they do not pass into the blood or muscle to cause any alarm to us. If you are having trouble with meat, it is because of something other than celiac. -Jessica -

Delimex is a Heinz company and they have several items that are safe: I eat their taquitos frequently. Very easy to throw in the microwave or oven. Top with some cheese and have a salad on the side or some beans. Also a couple of the Kraft South Beach Diet frozen dinners are safe. You just have to read the labels. -Jessica -

I had to collect my poo also, but just one sample. I totally feel your pain. It is the most degrating event ever!!
