Hi everyone, Sorry if this is long, but I don't know where to turn at this point. I've been sick for as long as I can remember. I always had stomach problems and diarrhea. I've had my share of tests - upper GI series, at this point 4 endoscopies, and 1 colonoscopy. All reveal absolutely nothing!! About 10 years ago I had Celiac Sprue blood test and...

I see Dr. Steven Fine in Framingham and I think he's wonderful. I don't think he specialized in Celiac, but he is very knowledgable. He will call you just to see how you are doing. Open Original Shared Link I also see Melinda Dennis, nutritionist at BIDMC. She is FANTASTIC! She is gluten-free and has DH and completely understands. She also helps...

ARCHIVED How Do I Attend A Wedding Dinner?
runnerjen replied to Gentleheart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi everyone, I've been gluten-free for about 3 weeks now. My boyfriend and I were invited to a wedding in Pittsburgh in July. It's an acquaintance of my boyfriend's, not someone he's really close with, and someone I have never met. So, I'm wondering what I should do about eating. The RSVP card lists beef, chicken or fish. So do I check on off... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Medication Question
runnerjen posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi everyone, I was recently told by my doc to go back on a gluten-free diet (this is an entirely different story....) and I'm starting today. I completely forgot to figure out if my medications are gluten-free. Does anyone know if Doryx is gluten-free? I just called the pharmacy, and all they could tell me was that gluten wasn't listed as an ingredient... -
ARCHIVED Confused And Frustrated
runnerjen replied to runnerjen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks JoR. I'm fairly certain that everything I've eaten, up until last night, has been gluten free. I pretty much eat the same things every day, and it's all gluten-free. I've been to a nutritionist who had me keep a food diary and looked at what I ate. She said it was all gluten-free. I don't have anything in my apartment that is not gluten-free, as... -
I've had IBS symptoms all my life. I've been to different Dr's and finally one suggested maybe celiac. So first I had bloodwork done, in December, and my tTG-IgA was 32 (on a scale of 0-19 units), IGG 29.8 (scale of 0.0-24.9) and IGA was <20 (scale of 0.0-24.9), so slightly elevated and Dr wanted me to have an endoscopy. He took 8 samples and all came...

ARCHIVED Moving.... Frustrations.
runnerjen replied to Adelle's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I can so relate! I hoped when I moved the last time (about 2 yrs ago) that would be it for a while. But since then, I've had days with no heat, to which my landlord basically says I'm crazy, but then there are days it goes on and it's in the 80's and I have to open a window! Then I had some crazy girl move in upstairs who, I swear, moves furniture around... -
Hi everyone, I just need to vent a little bit. I've been gluten-free for a few months now. Yesterday I was at Trader Joe's and picked up a bag of their new potato cheese gnocchi, hoping they were gluten-free. Alas, they were not, not that I'm surprised, but I was upset about it. I literally started to cry in Trader Joe's! I know I looked stupid, but...

ARCHIVED Disney World On Valentine's Day And Naples Fl
runnerjen replied to StarfishCA's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
If you can go to MGM Studios at Disney, I suggest the Brown Derby. I had a fabulous experience there. The chef came out to meet with me and told me to look at the menu and see what appealled to me and he'd make basically any dish gluten-free. I had roasted chicken breast, grilled asparagus and creamy polenta. It was DELISH! Also, he brought out hot tapioca... -

I use Udderly Smooth Udder Cream on my hands. It's gluten-free, it's thick, but isn't at all greasy. Open Original Shared Link For my body, I use Amlactin, which used to only be available with a prescription. You can usually find it near the pharmacy, or you can ask for it. It is gluten-free as well as corn free Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Goetze's Caramel Cremes-safe Or Not?
runnerjen replied to surfgolden's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Definitely not gluten-free. The first ingredient is wheat flour. I was sad to learn this as well, they were one of my favorite candies. INGREDIENTS: WHEAT FLOUR, CORN SYRUP, DEXTROSE, SUGAR, PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN OIL, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, MODIFIED WHEY, SKIM MILK, CREAM, MONO AND DIGLYCERIDES, SALT, LECITHIN, CORN STARCH, AND ARTIFICIAL... -
ARCHIVED Anyone With Celiac And Crohn's Disease?
runnerjen replied to Bri's mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had an lower GI series and crohn's was found from that. I've never had a colonoscopy. There are also some blood tests they can do to confirm diagnosis. -
I've heard a lot of you mention an elimination diet. What exactly is it and how do I go about doing it? I've been gluten-free since December, but I'm still having stomach issues that don't seem to go away. I went to a nutritionist who is helping me figure things out a bit, but she never suggested that I have allergies to anything else. Do I basically...

ARCHIVED Anyone With Celiac And Crohn's Disease?
runnerjen replied to Bri's mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, I do, sort of. I haven't been officially diacgnosed with celiac, we're still working on that, but I am gluten free. Blood tests for celiac are positive, but my endosopy came back negative. Since being gluten-free I haven't had any migraines or hot flashes and I'm sleeping better. BUT, stomach issues are still there. I have ileitis, which is Crohn... -
ARCHIVED Thumbs Up For Disney World!
runnerjen replied to pajamama2's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I just went to WDW in January. The best place I went to was The Brown Derby at MGM. I told the waitress I had a food allergy and she notified the chef. He cam over and discussed the menu options with me. Basiclly, I was able to creat my own dish, which was WONDERFUL!! I had chicken breast, creamy polenta and grilled asparagus. Also, he brought out hot... -
I just went to the one in Boston on Friday night. We ordered the chicken and lettuce wraps. I kept asking if they were really the gluten-free ones, and was assured they were. I ordered the lemon chicken, which again, I was assured was gluten-free. I ended up with a migraine the next day. I've only been gluten-free for a little over a month now, but I...

ARCHIVED So Confused!
runnerjen posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello, So I'm very confused about this. I've been sick for as long as I can remember with various stomach issues. I've always been told it's just IBS, but it's increasingly gotten worse over the years. I went to a new gastroenterologist who did the blood tests for Celiac and they came back positive. So he had me do an endoscopy back in December. ... -
ARCHIVED Knowfat! Cafe (boston Area)
runnerjen replied to runnerjen's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well, I replied to her and told her that corn was not a gluten-free concern, unless I was allergic to that separately. I don't believe that their fries are actually fried, I think they are fast baked or something, but I could be wrong. I asked her again, I'm curious about the response on that one too. Why wouldn't they have someone competent answering... -
I emailed them to find out if they had gluten-free info. This was the response: Dear Jennifer: Thank you for your email and interest in KnowFat! All of our

I'm so excited, I'm running my first half marathon at Disney on Saturday! I'm running to support the Arthritis Foundation. Anyone else running? Disney has been wonderfully accomodating and will be making me a gluten-free pasta dinner and gluten-free breakfast! Can't wait! jen

ARCHIVED Help With What To Eat For Lunches
runnerjen replied to runnerjen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for all of the suggestions!! I do have some of the Thai Kitchen noodle bowls, so I guess I could take those with me. I used to eat a lot of burritos, which I suppose I could make just rice, beans, cheese, avocados and leave out the tortilla (or at a corn one). I also used to eat a lot of the frozen Lean Cuisines because of the convenience. ... -
Hi everyone, I've been gluten-free for about 3 weeks now. I think things are going well, except I'm having some issues with what I can bring for lunch when I'm at work. I started out bringing Amy's frozen meals, but they aren't the most healthy things, and I want to try and stay away from them. So the last 2 weeks I've been eating salads. But I swear...

ARCHIVED Margaritas Mexican Restaurant
runnerjen replied to runnerjen's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Doh, I just saw this on their site I have a gluten allergy/ Celiac Disease. What can I eat at your restaurant? Due to wheat or glutens you should not have any of our items made with flour tortillas, steamed chicken or tio meat (our marinated steak used in many appetizers and entrees), red chile sauce or enchilada sauce which include burritos...
