ARCHIVED A Gi Or Gp For Celiacs Test? (plus Is My Gp Wrong?)
wowzer replied to 3groovygirls's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am sure that the GP could get the genetic test to do. My family doctor could. You can have your GP do the blood test. It is genetic and your daughter got it from somewhere. I wish my parents had checked further. I have a little sister that was diagnosed at a year. I figured I had it when I was 52. I figure that my Mother has it but won't get tested... -
It does sound like the climate. You can also use the saline nasal spray or gel. That is a big help too.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Grocery Store Utica, Michigan
wowzer replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I do like that store. They do have a great selection of gluten free foods. I'm sorry to hear that business isn't doing well. Now I know why when I go back to get something, they are out of it. I'll have to try and go more often. -
ARCHIVED Synthroid
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I am wrestiling with calling my doctor on this. I have to say, I have the same calm feeling since not taking it as when I went gluten free. My thyroid levels haven't changed since going gluten free. I also stopped HRT cold turkey when they couldn't guarantee that was gluten free. It was when I first went gluten free 2 years ago. I had no side affects... -
ARCHIVED Mother With Celiac And Anemia, Reactions To Iron?
wowzer replied to dd4glutenfree's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have betathalmysia (may be spelled wrong). It also is called Mediterrean anemia. My blood cells aren't normally shaped. Actully iron is toxic to this condition. I also have a sister that developed persnicity anemia from the same condition. She has to give herself B12 shots. It does sound like her body is saying I can't take iron to me. Keep us posted... -
ARCHIVED (autoimmune) Asthma, Allergies And Skin Issues (eczema)?
wowzer replied to EmmyLouWho?'s topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My eczema went away shortly after going gluten free. I will say my asthma has improved and I don't get my annual bout of pneumonia and bronchitis since going gluten free. I am a smoker too. I do still take Singulair, but rarely have to use an inhaler anymore. They expire before I use them now. I just wish that it had been discovered sooner for me. I... -
ARCHIVED Synthroid
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gemini, Thanks so much for bringing up the information about the synthroid. I have been taking it for over 20 years. I was told that once you take the name brand, they don't want you to take anything else. I am glad to know that the generic is gluten free. I did talk to the pharmacist about it and she said that it could be done but have never talked... -
When I saw the post that Synthroid may no longer be gluten free, I wondered if I am getting glutened from it. I started this prescription bottle Dec. 1. I know with all the holidays and so forth that I may have got glutened that way. I just feel like I'm going back to 3 years ago. It took me almost a year to figure it out. Of course my glutening symptoms...

ARCHIVED Good Information To Read......
wowzer replied to Gemini's topic in Publications & Publicity
Thanks for bringing up the information on the Synthroid. I am trying to figure out where I am getting gluten and wondering if the Synthroid it the problem. I did try to e-mail Abbott, but they said they could share my information with the world, etc. so didn't send the e-mail. I will have my pharmacist check tomorrow. Does anybody know what strengths... -

ARCHIVED What Is Your Favorite Pre-gluten-free Food?
wowzer replied to ang1e0251's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Great Idea for a post. The thing that I miss the most is a decent slice of sour dough or french bread. It's been 2 years for me now. I have to say before I went gluten free, I avoided bread unless it was a nice fresh loaf of good bread. I have pretty much given up trying because it is expensive and you feel guilty if you don't eat it. I'm hoping that... -
ARCHIVED Paula Dean's Pumpkin Bars
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm glad that you liked them. Thank you for letting me know. -
Caramel Bars 1/2 cup butter 2 cups brown sugar 3 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 cups flour (I used about a cup of white rice, 2/3 cup brown rice, 1/3 cup tapico flour) 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 6 ounces of chocolate chips (I like the mini ones best, but used the regular this time) Mix the dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Melt the...

ARCHIVED Paula Dean's Pumpkin Bars
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You could probably just not use it. If it needs thinning out your could add a little water or what ever you use as a milk substitue. If you can use Coffeemate, you could use that mixed with water. -
This is what I did to make them: 4 eggs 1 2/3 cup sugar 1 cup oil 2 cups flour (I used white rice, brown rice and tapioca) 2 teaspoons baking powder 2 teaspoons cinnamon 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 15 ounce can pumpkin Mix flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, baking powder in a bowl. In another bowl mix the eggs until they are fluffy...

ARCHIVED "regular Stores" Frozen Dinners: Any Gluten Free?
wowzer replied to MinnieM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Marie Callendar's Cheddar Wild rice Chicken dinner. The last time I was at the grocery store, it looked like some of the newer dinners could be gluten free. I didn't try any because they had wine and it doesn't agree with me. -
My daughter was having a Christmas party. I decided to try making a gluten free version of Paula Deans Pumpkin Bars. I was a little worried when I left, I had only seen one person try them. I did bring a couple of them home with me. My daughter called today and told me that everybody raved about them.

ARCHIVED Why Did I Have To Figure This Out?
wowzer replied to Spruey Stuey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have often wondered the same thing myself. I have had many itchy rashes. I even ended up in the hospital with one of my outbreaks. I ended up figuring it out myself as many here have. Look at the bright side, at least you figured it out. For me the hard part now is avoiding crumb trails, etc. that can gluten me. -
ARCHIVED How To Get Rid Of Hives
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am thinking I will have to try the elixir then. The only thing is I don't do well with sacchrin or sorbitol either. -
ARCHIVED How To Get Rid Of Hives
wowzer posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had an allergic reaction to antiobiotic. The doctor said to take benadry. When I look at glutenfreedrugs.com the only form of benadryl that is gluten free on the list is the elixir. Does anyone know if any of the store brands are gluten free. I was at Walgreens' tonight and the pharmacist was not helpful at all. I did take the dye free benadryl capsule... -
I have eaten this salad at O'Charley's with no problem. I do skip the blue cheese though.

ARCHIVED Hair Growth
wowzer replied to *lee-lee*'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My hair has been growing a lot faster now too. Must be something to it. I just went to get a hair cut yesterday and she cut 4 inches off of it. I have never been great about going every 6 weeks. I usually stretch it to 6 months. I did go in 4 months this time. -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results, Autoimmune Illness Questions
wowzer replied to meg2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would give the diet a try. My bloodwork came out negative, but I still tried it anyway. I had so many symptoms disappear when I went gluten free. I do have a little sister that is a diagnosed celiac. I think my problem was DH. I had so many itchy rashes that were diagnosed from impetago to poison ivy. Good luck and keep us posted. Wendy -
ARCHIVED Weird Reactions To Medications
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am not sure what caused this sinus infection. I do seem to get one set off by hay fever season, so that is probably why. I have battled a lot of candida, but my doctor did say this one was bacteria. My sinuses cleared up in the first couple weeks of going gluten free. At least I haven't had them constantly like I used to. I just hope this antibiotic...
