ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
Rob. replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Her claim to cure coeliac disease was poor wording, I believe it explains early on in the book that where people have been given a symptomatic diagnosis of coeliac (I am one of them), symptomatic diagnosis is one that is based on symptoms, not hard test results. People who actually have general carb intolerance (read viscous cycle) who have since cut out... -

This'll make you laugh, Carrot poisoning! I've been having pretty much nothing but carrot soup, and its catching up with me big time what other meals are you guys having to begin with? see all I can really think of is the carrot soup, as yoghurt doesn't agree with me. I think I may have to jump ahead with the diet and hope for the best -

Are you not losing a lot of weight on this diet? Weight loss is much like an old set of scales, either stable and evenly balanced, tilted downwards, or upwards- the slightest change giving an overal lose or gain, however small. Eating one extra biscuit above or below your bodies required intake will cause you to lose (assuming you have it to lose), or put... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

Breakfast is a challange thats too easy for me, mainly because i'll happily eat anything aslong as it'll keep me going. so for breakfast I have the carrot soup that I eat for all three meals of the day! though I may steam some carrots, puree them and eat them in the same way as yoghurt, carrots have a sweetness to them that should work ok for breakfast... -

well after today I know its a big no to diary yoghurt, I may tolerate it better after some time but its not worth it! -

I'm not sure whether to keep trying with the yoghurt in the hope of tolerating it better when I get used to it, but I worry that my symptoms with it may disappear, though it still does me harm. -

Your reactions are perfectly normal, its caused by the 'die off' reaction of the bacteria living in your gut. When they die off they give off all their toxins in one go so it does worsen symptoms. When I started the diet I had D but it cleared up fairly quickly, well actually I had to go out at short notice, took lots of immodium and spent the rest of the... -

Yes I'm from the uk too! so you say that tesco's own brand multi is ssc safe? (well safe enough without having to hound the manufacturer!) My yoghurt turned out good, didn't actually have much of it as it all went into a savory cheesecake, which was good though the success was lessened because either a small amount of diary yogurt, or the grape juice... -

More pressing issue though, I cannot for the life of me find SSC legal vitamins? got some multi minerals but everything I look at has added starch, sugar, sweetner or soy -

Yeah I had the same thought, I settle with welch's 100% grape juice, apparently its got no added sugar so its all good. As for dry curd cheese I didn't even bother looking, I doubt i'll find it. However as an alternative I can drain off yoghurt. Talking of which mine is ready in six hours! My bowels has also definately changed, I'm curious as to where... -

I'm on it too! I decided to modify the diet a bit to make it safer in my eyes. instead of starting at the intro diet I started with roughly the full diet taking all the high calorie foods (ie honey) and have had a week of that before toning it into the intro diet which I shall begin tomorrow when my yogurt is ready. I didn't think my body would be happy... -

ARCHIVED Is Vsl3 Unflavored Gluten Free?
Rob. replied to Rob.'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a statement from "Danisco Cultures" stating that its gluten free, I best check who makes the product I have. However the American FDA classification lists anything as being below 20parts per million as coeliac safe-gluten free. so it may well still contain traces, though i'm not that sensitive a coeliac, so I think i'm getting away with it, though... -

Carla you seem to know alot about yeast/bacteria overgrowth, do you know if grastritis comes into it? just I have that fairly bad. I assume its caused by the toxins the bacteria are giving off, would be nice to get some advice from someone with some real experience of it. -

hand made? woah thats impressive. I may ask them to leave out there herbal laxative ingredient, unless the herbs cause constipation its not something I need! in actual fact I may well have a similar to issue to yourself, I never got a diagnosis of coeliacs, though am very gluten intolerant. however I did get major lactose intolerance whilst at the high... -

Some great suggestions there, the humaworm looks like the one I shall try first. oh and carla, how did the vsl 3 go down with you? I'm wondering if I have some oversensitivity in the gut as I tend to feel pretty rough when I take the recommended dose, at the moment i'm taking about a 1/4 of a packet daily. funnily enough the capsule version went down easier... -

I'm looking for an alternative too the vsl3 and found this Open Original Shared Link But it lists 'Fos' as an ingredient, as do lots of the probiotics, but what worries me is that wikipedia lists a potential ingredient to be wheat/barley. I think I may stick with the unflavored vsl3, after all the searching i've done this morning its the best option... -

oh sorry nancy, didn't see your post! that page makes for some great reading, that bit on celiac nerve damage is worrying though! must admit my balance has been poor recently, anyhow The good doctors page does promote the idea of the unflavored version being safe, its not likely that gluten comes into the creative phase of the bacteria is it? otherwise... -

Well as it transpires the flavored version contains traces of gluten, though its one on those doesn't/does it/no one wants to pay to prove it! scenarios. I had heard that the flavored version is 11 parts in a million gluten. That phone call is intriguing, I imagine the uk distributer of vsl3 may well say that it contains gluten, however they don't seem... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Get Super Dizzy When Working Out?
Rob. replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Sports and Fitness
To add a rather off base point, I have a similar experience due to bacterial overgrowth. I believe exercise brings on the dizziness as it works up all the toxins that had settled in the muscles. There are multiple options for helping that if you think its possible that its whats affecting you. -
ARCHIVED Is Vsl3 Unflavored Gluten Free?
Rob. posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey guys, I done a search on this forum and its come up with some good threads on this subject but they lack clarity due to there being a few types of vsl3 so with luck someone here will know, I've also sent a fair few emails to the producers so with luck I'll have confirmations soon. My quandary is that VSL3 flavored contains maltose potentially... -
ARCHIVED Wheat/barley Leaves?
Rob. posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yo guys, Just a quick question, i'm taking a general health/sleeping pills that contains wheat/barley leaves. Are these leaves gluten free, am I safe to take them? I tend to have a quite a high tolerance too gluten so I won't really notice if its doing me harm for a while so i'd rather get it right now! Any help welcome Thanks Rob -
hi, The well known bone of contention, Oats! in your personal experience are ok for coeliacs or should they be avoided? I'm not asking for my own benefit as i'm avoiding everything that has the slightest possibilty of causing me a problem! but my mother has some mysterious health problems that i personally believe are coelaics, it is genetic so if...

ARCHIVED gluten-free But Still Getting Sick
Rob. replied to nephlim's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
hi, It may be for a fwe reasons, firsly yes ther may be amounts left over. to protect against this i would suggest you for example buy new scrubbing equipment for your plates pans etc etc. also you could check that your dietry intake really is gluten free, some products are marked as being gluten free but still contain tiny amounts, very small amounts...
