ARCHIVED Apple Cider Vinegar
Tash-n-tail posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Is Apple Cider Vinegar gluten free? I'm assuming that it is but is there another side effect coeliacs will suffer if exposed to C.V? Thanks, Marcus. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Handle Gluten Free Food
Tash-n-tail replied to darkr's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes. Donate to friends or family fast. I've just discovered that my brand of Buckwheat has been ditched due to contamination! I'm out a little more in terms of bucks but grain options are looking very slim right about now. Good luck. Marcus. -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis Trouble In The Uk
Tash-n-tail replied to Kyalesyin's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I think that I am going to scream! It does explain why I'm feeling so out of sorts since I picked up the last batch of Doves in Wales two weeks ago. Gggggrrrr I've only got 3 kilo's camped out in the fridge! Nikki - do you know whether Doves Millet or a Sorghum flour are also contaminated? Here in Birmingham we have a lot of Indian Stores and I've been... -
Am planning to relocate to Crete or Rhodes this Summer. I'm concerned about the linguistics and the problems sourcing substitute ingredients, not to mention finding myself carb free for four months! I have every intention of taking in five or six kilos of sealed buckwheat and some alternate options so that I can cook for myself. 1. Got various medical...

ARCHIVED Pantene.

That's a relief. I like the Pantene range and it works for my hair too. Thanks for the tip. Marcus. -
ARCHIVED Adjusting A Recipie To gluten-free
Tash-n-tail replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm still getting up to speed here on adaptations. But as I recall the rice flour is not only finer ground but not having gluten it isn't as flexible as wheat. You'll end up with a shortbread style of baked crust. Which should work for you in a dessert type recipe. (My "old" standby was a similar version and I'd probably do a combo of the rice and buckwheat... -
ARCHIVED Sunscreen
Tash-n-tail replied to hannahsue01's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I didn't know sunscreens had gluten in them? Do all hand creams and face stuff have gluten then? What am I looking for if the ingredients only list chemical terms? Great something else to watch. As for March and the lion's bit -- the UK is having a suspiciously mild if chilly end of Winter. These next few weeks could be particularly joyful or a last minute... -
ARCHIVED Need A Bit Of Help..
Tash-n-tail replied to loco-ladi's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well a very old trick to "refresh" a cake that had dried out in storing back in the days of every home having a cake tin or seven was to add either a small washed apple or a few slices of apple to the tin. I can't tell you how it adds moisture to the drying cake but it does. However I don't think this is going to work wonders with your cookies. You could... -

Sure does! Does it count that I'm an honorary Yank? -
I have got to thank you for the intro and the link here! It's been an amazing life-line and everyone has been so helpful! Sincere thanks and much appreciated indeed. It's never come up on my searches but another friend in the States sent the link a few days after you did. Marcus From Tribe.

I agree. Am up in Birmingham and have been since moving to the UK. As stand-by's and tucked into the freezer I think Sainsbury's products are a blessing. I do have to be careful since not everything is ideal for my particular issues but they help when I'm running late and a meal has to appear on the table asap. I have to travel to Wolverhampton to shop there... -

Woot! OK -- so any South African/Irish/English/Greek coeliacs? I'm Irish, grew-up in South Africa, lived in the States for twenty years, currently live in the UK and am hoping to successfully relocate to Rhodes or Crete later this Summer. -
ARCHIVED Wheat / Corn Vinegar, And Alcohol.
Tash-n-tail replied to JennGFCF's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hhhmmmm probably come up on a Google search or such. Mexico/Aztec corn base diet. But there is probably a recipe somewhere for corn as an alcohol starter. Probably a beer. If I recall correctly as a child in South Africa the Africans on the farm made a sour beer with maize kernels they would chew and start the fermenting process that way. Plum wine is... -

Sorry about the Lyme's Disease! Nasty! Ta -- the "New" Nokia last summer and fooling around with it. And believe me the Forum is going to hear about my glass of wine! -
I can't use potato, cornstarch, lentils and rice ideas. Nor barley either. I've been wondering about using Arrowroot? I used it a lot in the States for desserts with fruits as a glaze and can't come up with anything else as an alternate idea. Mind you not that I can actually find out what it comes from besides some exotic Caribbean tuber -- I recently did...

Good tip there on the lemon juice. Hey I like lemons and don't mind the flavour, Oranges are verbooten but limes, lemons and grapefuits are fine. I hear you. The marshmallows here have wheat in the readily available ones so it hasn't featured on the list either. And I recently got a gluten-free recipe too. Too bad about the corn. :( I really miss... -

Hon take a breath and try to relax. No it's not bad. It isn't fun mind you. But it's not bad. Trying to relax is import. It also depends on the sedation. I've had a local and the variety where they thankfully knock you out. In my case with the local, having a monster TV screen hanging in front of my eyes didn't help. And yes I was aware of it penetrating... -

Oh I must treat myself soon! It's been years! Years I tell you. And I did the same with fish! Oh I'm drooling! Maybe a nice California or Chilean if I can track one down. Woot that means -- wine jelly with the left overs! (Don't ask, out of fashion for decades). Although the likes of us don't need more than just a fraction of something to set us off huh... -
ARCHIVED Wheat / Corn Vinegar, And Alcohol.
Tash-n-tail replied to JennGFCF's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was not aware of that! Hhhhmmmm Explains loads tho'! Would you know if coeliacs become more tolerant of corn once they get over the glutening and are utterly wheat-free? I'd love to be able to introduce corn back into my diet. Not to mention popcorn. From curiosity, can you suggest an alternative to corn syrup for candy making and baking? Honey? Marcus... -

Thats great to know. Thank you. I was warned off red wine which is my favourite choice unfortunately. I've actually seriously thought of brewing my own buckwheat beer lately! And I have shelved the idea of picking up some gluten-free beers here in Britain -- with carriage the cost is something like -
Sigh. I'm with you there! Used to be so adventurous with various foods. These days if it's off my list or there are doubts whatever, it is stays there! And I have to say I was startled by someone who posted in another thread about a face cream being a potential source for glutening.

ARCHIVED Overwhelmed With Gluten Free Food & Prices
Tash-n-tail replied to Disney323's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh I wish we could do this in Britain! Was told last year by the NHS Consultant I spoke to, that her Aunt used to get a prescription for her bread once a month, only to be told several weeks later that the system had been discontinued. Currently I eliminate an enormous amount of things and consume only the trusted and reliable items. Can't wait to... -
ARCHIVED Recovering From A Glutening
Tash-n-tail replied to Mtndog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My experiences tend to cycle and have a correlation on my immediate reaction or dealing with the gluttening. On a "good" cycle, 3 to 4 days of misery. A "bad" cycle and I'm out for four weeks and another two to recover and move again. The main reason that I take all this so seriously and strive to be disciplined. Get better soon!
