  1. I have not been able to find any dryer sheets that do not contain gluten. If anyone knows of one, please post it. I use the Dove shampoo, since I gave up my treasured Pantene products. I don't think that Treseme is gluten-free. As for make-up and moisturizers, Nutregena is usually pretty good, but you have to read the labels. You may need to contact...
  2. I work in the healthcare field, and have not had a TB skin test done for about 13 years. I am allergic to the serum they use to test for TB. I only have chest X-rays done now. I agree with I_Mommy, make sure you have a doctor read the results, not just a nurse. If it just red and/or itchy, that is not necessarily a positive reaction. You have to have...
  3. Alex, It's good to hear from you. I've read several of your fiance's postings, and have follewed some of your progress. It's good to hear from you personally, and I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better! I would think that it's natural to feel this way. I can't speak personally, as it is my husband that has Celiac, but it seems reasonable to...
  4. My husband occasionally has difficulty with the sciatic nerve. Since it runs through a very small hole in that area, if it gets the slightest bit inflamed it is VERY painful. The only thing that helps him is rest and ibuprofen. Sometimes ice packs on the hip area helps as well. Hope you feel better!
  5. Welcome! Celiac disease is an allergy to gluten. If you have this, then the gluten you ingest damages the villi in your small intestin, and you are less able to absorb nutrients from your food. This can cause a whole host of other problems in your body (including rashes). Gluten comes from wheat, rye and barley (and possibly oats). If you have Celiac...
  6. My husband was diagnosed with fibro years ago. He was just diagnosed with Celiac about four months ago. He has not yet seen any reduction in his pain levels yet. But, if you've got Celiac, then you have to be gluten free. There's just too many things that can go bad in your system, up to and including cancer. Carla's right, there is no "little bit Celiac...
  7. This is probably the best website for your diagnosis. There are a lot of very knowledgable people posting to this board. Also, the main page can direct to you lists of ingredients that are safe, and those that are not. The bad news is you'll probably have to give up going to Taco Bell. I'm pretty sure that I seen several posting indicating that there...
  8. We contacted the company and got a very nice response from them. While the drinks do not have any gluten in them, the company does not do their own bottling. Therefore, they are bottled on equipment that could be used for other drinks that may not be gluten free. We used to drink Fuze every day (especially the diet green tea), but now we don't want to...
  9. I agree with the eating out early part. If you go when the place is not busy, you have a better chance of the waiter spending the time with you understand your situation. We eat at Outback two or three times a month, and as long as you're clear about what you need, you will hopefully have a good experience.
  10. He has had pain in both legs, but it is not limited to just at night. It sounds like maybe your bed is aggravating your problem. We changed to one of the "sleep number" beds about 10 years ago, and it really helps with his pains. I know it's a big (expensive) change, but it was very much worth it for us. Have any of your doctors diagnosed you with fibromialgia...
  11. The pain actually sounds like it might be sciatica (not sure if I spelled that right). The main nerve running down your leg passes through a small hole in your hip. If it gets agrivated, the pain shoots right down the leg, and be very painful. My husband has muscle and joint pain, and has been diagnosed with Celiac. From time to time over the years...
  12. My husband has joint pain, and has been diagnosed with Celiac. He does not have any other symptoms, and his case is certainly different from yours. But, he has been gluten-free for over two months with no real change in his symptoms. I have posted on several sections of this site, and have gotten great responses. My husband may have something else that...
  13. Sorry, I meant to say powdered gloves.
  14. I believe that potatoe flour (not starch) needs to be kept in the refrigerator.

    ARCHIVED Phoenix Area?

We live in Yuma. We relocated here last September from Pennsylvania. We have been to Lake Havasu a couple of times, and think it's a nice town. They make really great margaritas at the Javalina Cantina. So, are there any good GI doctors in Lake Havasu?

    ARCHIVED Phoenix Area?

Does anyone know of a good GI doctor in the Phoenix area? We live in soutwest Arizona, and we had a very disappointing visi with the local GI. Since it is the only one in town, we have to look elsewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  17. I would also ask if they use powdered drugs. You never know what could be in the powder.
  18. The tandori bread they serve in Asia, a restaraunt in the Bellagio in Vegas. We will REALLY miss this.
  19. Ask to have a dietary consultation. The head of Food Services should be a least a little informed about gluten issues. You need to let them know what you can and cannot eat. I have heard that Mylanta has gluten in it, but I'm not sure. The only one I'm sure about is Pepto chewable tablets. I think even the liquid may have gluten. Just be vocal about...
  20. He does take a daily vitamin and fish oil each day. He also takes extra iron, as the doctor says he's a bit anemic. He tried the glucosamin/chondroitin, but it did not agree with him at all. I think it was mostly the chondroitin, but he's not really interested in trying again. He's not much of a sugar eater. He's always been very concious of what he...
  21. Several people on this website have very good information about what type of cookware you can keep, and what you need to replace. You will need to replace any wooden utensils, plastic strainers and cutting boards. Gluten will stick indefinitely to things like that. Also, you should replace your toaster, s it is nearly impossible to get it clean enough...
  22. So, we went to the GI. We were very disappointed. First of all, the office staff seemed stupid and rude. The, the doctor wasn't very interested in helping us. He said that the blood work wasn't really conclusive. The only way to really check, the "gold standard" was to have a biopsy done. When my husband said he wasn't very happy about having to "gluten...
  23. One of our favorite cookies has always been oatmeal raisin. I just use the recipe on the quaker oats can, with a few tweaks. I want to continue to make them, but I need to find someone who sells oats that have been grown and processed in dedicated facilities. Also, do I need to adjust the recipe if I'm using gluten free flour. For example do I need...
  24. It doesn't seem like any of his muscle or joint pain has eased up at all. He doesn't seem to have any other symptoms. Our regular doctor (who's pretty good) ordered the blood tests for him. I'm not sure why it occurred to him to do it. All three tests came back positive. We have an appointment with the GI doctor tomorrow. I'm sure he's going to want...
  25. My husband was diagnosed about 2 1/2 months ago. We have cleaned out the house, and we're pretty sure we've gotten rid of everything that had gluten in it. We also replaced all of our plastic utensils, strainers and bought a new toaster. I have stopped eating gluten as well, so that there is no chance of cross-contamination. Lastly, we have also gone...
