We are taking a trip to Las Vegas next week and are looking for good places to eat. We are actually pescatarians (we eat fish) so seafood places would be okay too. But we are definitely looking for gluten-free that are not chain type restaurants.

My husband's doctor gave him a six week sample of Crestor for his blood pressure. Now he doesn't feel very well. Did he get glutened from it?

ARCHIVED Force Factor
Worriedwife posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My husband, who has Celiac, is thinking about taking this supplement before exercising. I was wondering if anyone has tried this, and if there are any issues we should be aware of. It contains Glutamine, which seems to be a bit contraversial by itself. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Feeling A Bit Frustrated
Worriedwife replied to rllycute's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Remember that in addition to gluten remaining in her pots and pans, it can hide in lots of other places. Any wooden utensils or cutting boards should be replaced right away. You will not be able to get gluten out of a surface like wood. Also, any seasonings that were used before she was diagosed should probably be replaced. They could be contaminated... -
ARCHIVED Dryer Sheets
Worriedwife posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am looking for dryer sheets that are gluten free. I'v searched through other threads, but have not seen a definite answer. Since I don't live in a big city, we don't have a large selection of supermarkets. I'm looking for something fairly common for someone who's not overly sensitive. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Sent Home From Work
Worriedwife replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I recently experienced pain in the lower abdomen with severe cramps. I was diagnosed with Diverticulitis, and put on a clear liquid diet. I had to stay on it until the pain and uncomfortableness went away. It's not gluten-related that I know of, but it might be your problem. Try sticking to water and gatorade for a few days, and see if it helps. I... -
Endoscopy Tomorrow, And Terrified!
Worriedwife replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've had several of them done over the years, and they have always been very easy. About the worst thing I've ever noticed is a slight sore throat afterward from the tube. Great excuse to have some ice cream! -
ARCHIVED Husband Just Diagnosed With Celiac
Worriedwife replied to taypaul's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My husband was diagnosed about two years ago, and we decided to have a gluten free house. it was much easier than trying to have two of everything. Since we don't have any kids, it wasn't very difficult to do. Speaking of kids, you may want to have yours tested. Since Celiac is a genetic disease, it can be passed along to your children. It's best to... -
We are also big Doctor Who fans, and have been for over twenty years. I personally put my money on Rose in any fight betweent the three (Rose, Martha, Donna). I'm a bit confused over the library episode. The heavily implied that David Tenet was going to have an extended future with Dr. River Song. How can they then change to a new doctor, since it was...

ARCHIVED Off Brand Products
Worriedwife replied to jjdthmpsn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Unfortunately, we have one of those "HE" washers, and you're only supposed to use the detergents made for it. I cannot seem to find any off-brand detergents for this type of washer. Please post if you are aware of any. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Where Do You Shop For Groceries?
Worriedwife replied to clnewberry1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We do most of our shopping at the local Walmart. Their generic brand "Great Value" has a lot of items that are gluten free. Even their soy sauce is gluten free! The labels are clearly marked on the back if an item is gluten free, and we have had a lot of success shopping there. -
ARCHIVED Idaho Moving To Arizona
Worriedwife replied to spicenator3000's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
If you're looking for warm weather Yuma, AZ has it. We have very little in the way of college or nightime/social/singles life, but you can't get much warmer and stay in the US. -
ARCHIVED Anti-anxiety Meds Anyone?
Worriedwife replied to givenupgluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just be careful if you decide to go with the Xanex. Some manufacturers use gluten in it, while others don't. Check the gluterfreedrugs.com website for safe manufacturers, and then find out where your pharmacy gets theirs from. You don't want to make yourself sick while you're trying to calm down. -
The shrimp in lobster suace is VERY good. Also, if you can afford the calories, the dessert is really great!

ARCHIVED O.k., So I Stirred It

You want the water to be about 100 degrees, and mostly just leave the yeast to grow. -
We are traveling to Prescott near the end of the month, and I was wondering if anyone knows of anyplace that is safe to eat.

My husband has fibro and Celiac. He was diagnosed with the fibro first, and he had symptoms for ten years before he was diagnosed with the Celiac. The change in diet has not seemed to help with his pain, although we realize that it's necessary for his overall health. He has seemed to get a few more syptoms over the years.

Lots of things can cause hemorrhoids, so I'm not sure what triggered yours. It does sound like the start of one. The best thing that I have found is to get yourself a sitz bath. They sell them at drugstores, and they don't usually cost a lot of money. You put it in the toilet seat, fill the plastic bag with hot water, and sit and soak for a while. Combine...

Another consideration is weight gain. If your brother is at all concerned about his weight, taking the Lyrica could be a problem. It definitely increases the appetite, and if he's eating things he shouldn't be it will only make things worse. My husband is just stopping this medicine because it hasn't really seemed to help the fibro, and he's gained at...

Be careful of the Xanax. Not all of the generics are gluten free. -
ARCHIVED New To Everything (and I Could Just Cry)
Worriedwife replied to gluten free guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Be sure that you're not sharing utensils, toaster, cookware with anyone else who is eating gluten. You need to have your own stuff, particularly the toaster. You can never get an old one clean enough for it to be safe for you to use. Gluten clings to everything, so you will need to replace any wooden or plastic utensils, strainers, cooking spoons. As... -
ARCHIVED Hello All - New To The Forum & To Celiac
Worriedwife replied to Marianne G's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you're a Walmart shopper, then you should be okay. Their Great Value line of products has an enormous amount if items that are gluten free. They print it clearly on the back label, if it's gluten free. Also, most unprocessed foods are naturally gluten free. Rice and potatoes are safe to have (unless you can't handle nightshades), and fresh fruits... -
Yuma is not really a big town. We have an Outback, which is always a great place to eat. Lots of places to have Mexican food. Since real Mexican food doesn't generally contain gluten, it's a good place to start. Always remember to discuss your issues with the staff, wherever you're eating! Will you be passing through Yuma or staying here?

ARCHIVED First Gluten Free Shopping List
Worriedwife replied to Chelley's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have one near you, Walmart is a great place to shop. Their Great Value brand will definitely identify items a being gluten free, and they have a lot of them. I agree with previous posters about trying to stay with naturally gluten free items as much as possible, as they are normally much healthier for you. Remember that gluten can sneak into the...
