ARCHIVED Need To Make A Bed Comfortable
Worriedwife replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I really have to second the sleep number bed. We have a king size one, and each side can be adjusted to individual comfort levels. We bought one without the pillow top, as we were told that they go flat pretty quickly. The guarantee on these beds is way longer than a regular bed. We bought ours about ten years ago, and one of the air hose connections... -
ARCHIVED Hoping Her Son Grows Out Of It
Worriedwife posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Over the weekend, we had dinner at our locat Outback restaurant. Our waitress seemed unusually knowledgable about the gluten-free products, so we asked her if she had gluten issues. She told us that her son had been diagnosed with Celiac at about 1 year old. I was a bit surprised, as I thought it was difficult to get an accurate result in very young children... -
We live in Yuma, and pass through Lake Havasu from time to time. We have had good luck at the Javelina Cantina, which is just over the bridge. We explained my husband's issues, and they let us know about anything on the menu that might contain gluten. They said that they have had a lot of questions about this recently, and their staff is definitely becoming...

So, we had an appointment with our primary care doctor, and I asked him about the problem. He agreed that it's probably due to the lack of humidy in our area, as opposed to cold weather. He suggested that at the first sign of cracking, we should use crazy glue on DH's fingers. I asked about the liquid bandaid stuff, but he said that the crazy glue was...

Where in Arizona are you?

He has Celiac, not just gluten intolerant. Are you suggesting taking the omega 3, or getting the gels and spreading it on his thumbs?
-
Recently (last couple of months) my husband has had a problem with the skin around his thumb nails. it is constantly cracking and splitting. We live in the desert, so it's not the cold weather. He uses Neosporin and bandaids until it clears up, and then as soon as it gets better it starts all over again. I'm wondering if he's having a problem with something...

ARCHIVED New Here And My Head Is Spinning!
Worriedwife replied to Rosebud710's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your doctor thinks that you're having a problem with gluten, then you have to give it up. Not only will you get sick, but you're doing a lot of damage to you intestines. You could wind up with cancer, as people with Celiac have a higher percent chance of getting it. Please, stick to your vow and give it up! -
Be especially careful of turkey. The pre-basted ones usually have gluten in them. Also, if they've been stuffed, they're not safe!

ARCHIVED Olay Quencher Body Lotion
Worriedwife replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I second the posting about the Body Emulsion. I live in the desert, and I use it every day. It's really great! -
ARCHIVED Questions About Hemirrhoids
Worriedwife replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Another thing to try is a sitz bath, which you can pick up at a drug store. It's a basin that sit in the toilet, with a pouch that you fill up with warm water. There is tubing that goes from the pouch to the basin, and then it sprays up into the anal area to help soothe and reduce the hemerrhoids. Its like sitting in a warm bath, except you don't have... -
ARCHIVED Xanax Contains Gluten
Worriedwife replied to ENF's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Anybody know which is the offending ingrediant at Greenstone. I printed out a list of the inactive ingrediants, and I can't tell which one it is. This is the one that my company (hospital) deals with, and I don't know if I can get it from another paharmacy and still have it covered under my insurance. Here are the ingrediants that they list: cellulose... -
Every time that I log in to the message board, it saya that my last visit was on October 11th. I have been signing on almost every day since then, but it does not change. Also, when I click on "new posts", it lists everything since that date not since the last time I signed on. What do I need to do to change this?

ARCHIVED Minimized Responses
Worriedwife replied to Worriedwife's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
That WAS really easy. Thank you! -
I have been signing on to this website, almost daily, since April. When I read a thread, all of the posts just followed one after another, right down the page. Something has changed, and I don't know how to fix it. I get the original post, but all of the replies are "minimized" at the bottom of the page, and I have to click on each one to read it. It...

ARCHIVED New And Love To Bake
Worriedwife replied to bakingbarb's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would also not bake with wheat flour anymore. That stuff gets into the air, and then you're breathing it in. It's a recipe for diaster. There are basic gluten-free flours that you can buy, or you can experiment and try mixing on your own. I would buy a couple of gluten-free baking books (Bette Hagman's are really great) and start experimenting. ... -
ARCHIVED Absolutely The Worst Day At Work....ever!
Worriedwife replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
As a former auditor, I will say that these people have to be professionally skeptical. But that woman was way out of line to tell you that you have no idea of how to do your job. Sounds like she's got issues, and something to prove to someone. I would just be patient, do the best you can, and have a drink when they're gone. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Hand Lotions
Worriedwife replied to GFM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Neutrogena has a lotion called Body Emulsion. It seems to work really well for me, and it's really dry down here. -
ARCHIVED Oxalates And Nightshades
Worriedwife replied to jerseyangel's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My husband's pain is pretty intense as well, and he uses Vicoprofin. It's just like vicodin, only it has ibuprofin instead of acetomitifin(sp?). Doctors don't really like to prescribe this, as it's really strong, but you could ask about it. It really seems to work for him. -
ARCHIVED Oxalates And Nightshades
Worriedwife replied to jerseyangel's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks for the time frame. I thinks that if it takes laonger than a couple of days for him to feel better, he's not going to stick with it. He thinks those peanuts are good for him. -
ARCHIVED Oxalates And Nightshades
Worriedwife replied to jerseyangel's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I've been reading this thread, because although my husband has been gluten free for about six months, his joint pain has not improved. So, I'm trying to get him to reduce his oxylate intake, to see if this helps. He's not really "buying" this idea, but I've talked him into giving up the nuts and berries, which have made up a large part of his diet. ... -
ARCHIVED How To Deal With Meals Within A New Dating Situation
Worriedwife replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For those of us who are vegeatarian but still eat fish, the term is pesca-vegetarian. -
The Sonoran desert Museum in Tuscon is a GREAT place. We went there in the spring, and plan to go again. But it's a lot of outdoor walking, and it still pretty warm there. If you go, make sure you wear comfortable shoes and take lots of drinking water. Have a great time!

We're having a bit of a cool spell here. It's only 100 degrees today, when it's usually abouut 110 in August. Luckily we have very low humidity (17% today). We used to live in the Philly area, I don't miss the summer humidity there!

ARCHIVED New-need Advice
Worriedwife replied to tarah86's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's possible that you have Celiac, but it cannot be diagnosed simply from the symptoms. You should see your regular doctor, and asked to be tested for Celiac. Bloodwork is a good indicator. Of course, a biopsy of your intestine is the best test, but you should start with the bloodwork. If that comes out positive, then there may be no need for the biopsy...
