  1. Thanks for the responses. I checked them on the way, but was in no condition to reply at that time. I wound up bringing some yummy trail mix and eating at the second dinner, held at a restaurant after the service. I went to talk to the chef quietly, and my meal came out perfect and very yummy with no one feeling 'put out'. I explained to the people who...
  2. My aunt just died of lung cancer and I will be going to her funeral over the weekend. There will be a reception at the family's house after the funeral, with lots of different types of food. So how do I politely go about finding food I can eat (i.e. going to Whole Foods down the street for myself) without making an already sad situation worse by hurting...
  3. I got this e-mail, and thought maybe some of you would have a minute to visit the site and check out the Celiac booth, which raises funds with each visit! ~Destiny (the CC'ed chick that looks like death reheated) Dear Friends, With just a few clicks of your mouse, you can help the National Foundation for Celiac Awarness raise funds for research!! The...
  4. Got an answer about Ensure: Hello Destiny, Thank you for contacting Abbott's Ross Products Division. Ensure
  5. Redbridge does not taste like Miller Light, but is good. Try it, you will like it. I lived off of Honey Rice puffins when I got out of the hospital. They still make me smile. Even if you ask, 9/10 bartenders have no ides where the alcohol they are serving came from, or what it is made from.
  6. It would not be worthwhile to sacrafice your own health to help us. There are enough others doing the heavy lifting, knowing our area is in your prayers is help enough. In the event you are ever displaced, try to have emergency numbers for your doctors, a signed note (on their letterhead) explaining your condition and diagnosis for another doctor wherever...
  7. Oh, wow... now you mention it. I cannot imagine getting stuck in evecuation traffic, getting a hold of something that disagrees with me, and not having immodium! That would make evacuation even more nightmareish.
  8. I live in New Orleans, and I spend far too much time wondering about the what ifs and the logistics of getting out of town in non moving traffic. My best bets have been to pack safe peanut butter and rice crisps, trail mix, some fruit leather, and lots of water. From experience, the cooler is the last thing anyone makes space for when family heirlooms...
  9. Yay for gluten free Coke products. I sent an e-mail to Tyson meats about a month ago regarding two of their meat products that have seasonings but are wheat free. Not only did they say that they could not verify the gluten free status of their products, they went on to put in a disclaimer that the e-mail was private, and that in the event that I posted...
  10. Now you can enjoy the fair without clogging your arteries or feeling as tired and puffy as I am sure you did after a few hour every time before. And you can't ignore this diet and just 'feel bad'. If you do not take care of yourself and stay gluten free, and you just ignore the guidelines, you will invariably die of complications, whether they seem related...
  11. She's selfish. But you are being great. Can't wait to see your outfit! Sounds like you found something great that makes you happy, and that you could wear again for a nice event, instead of just once to a wedding. I'm really glad that there will be food for you and the grandkids, and a yummy pie. At least the caterer has the sense to take care of you,...
  12. Unless she is paying for your dress, or your food for that matter, she can get over it. How did such a lovely lady have such a horrid child? I can think of a great word for her that the mods would hate. Go to the wedding, have your fun, play with the grandkids. Your daughter would be hurt if you didn't go, or if you let on that you were uncomfortable...
  13. It hurts to know that people can be so callous and careless with their actions and words. I am planning two weddings for my fiance and me. There will be two so that accommodations can be made for friends and family. We are paying for both ceremonies ourselves, but my future mother in law is helping pick flowers. My fiance's ex, who we are very close to...
  14. So I accidentally got glutened through misinformation the other day while out on the go. Shortly after, I was slurring my words, couldn't get a thought completed to save my life (except to remember the "FAST" mnemonic for a stroke) and went weak down the left side of my body and fell into the shelves at Wal-Mart. Great start to my day. So I went home to get...
  15. I finally quit my job as a baker, as a result of falling adrenal function and sliding back towards kidney failure. I'm feeling a lot better, since I got rid of the wheat flour air and a very stressful environment where I was being harassed. Just thought I'd let y'all know, since many people were worried that my profession would make me stay ill. I am...
  16. Funny thing- I used to have the same issues with staying awake. After my hospital stint, during which I was on Iv fluids and iv vitamins, I have been able to say awake all day, so long as I take a multi in the morning, and take a combo of potassium, magnesium, chromium, and b12 twice a day after that. The only time I have issues now is if I let myself...
  17. Oh, and I have to get 3 spots removed and biopsied for DH next week, and another for cancer. Joy and rapture.
  18. I am on several prescription vitamins. Most notably, potassium. I just don't keep it in my system well. I am even taking supplements because it gets so low I can feel my muscles stop working and my heart starts to get really irregular, and I know that a seizure or fainting spell is hot on the heels. My boss commented today that I looked frazzled, to stop...
  19. I tried the microwave trick- just as good as the wheaty stuff, without the grainy texture or loads of yucky seeds. Made the cookies melt in my mouth, too... Everything is going in the microwave now!
  20. I just went to Whole Foods at the suggestion of HappyGirl, for the very first time since I was diagnosed. Everyone on staff knew about Celiac- I remember them bringing it up during training. Now, it is a required part of the training that I will be going through again when I go back to the company. It makes such a difference in the way I feel about shopping...
  21. My multi had gluten, but I found a gluten free one on the Whole Foods list Happygirl gave me. I'm picking it up today. This gets so hard to cope with sometimes. The nearest support group is not that great for me because it is in Baton Rouge on weekdays. I can't make it out there most of the time.
  22. I got three on my foot, right on top of the tendons that go to my toes. So they rub all day in shoes, and are conveniently place so as to even rub in flip-flops! This is the last reaction to fade from my glutenings.... takes at least a month. These are itching and hurting like crazy, too, with the sweat and rubbing at work in tennis shoes.
  23. I am actually noticing a lot of bruises today. Just changed into my PJ's and there are bruises from things like resting my elbows on my knees. Should I be worried about this or just up my supplements?
  24. I love y'all so much.
  25. Finding a way to rearrange the food pyramid to not include wheat, rye, barley, oats (they do upset me), oranges, lemons, milk, casein, or fatyy and sugary foods. Apparently, baked chicken breast with peach salsa and Rice and Shine, to the tune of 1 full plate of food a day, doesn't cut it. The issue is finding good food, safe food, that doesn't make...
