  1. Just a little note that I discovered at the salon. My haircolor dye has wheat in it! Luckily there is another brand that does not. Unfortunately, she checked AFTER she had put my color on! I did bring my own shampoo and conditioner though. So, before coloring, please check out the ingredients. (I had no ill effects though, thank goodness).
  2. Cape Cod worked fine for me but UTZ is still my favorite! They have a whole page dedicated to Celiac Disease on their website. For some reason Lays give me terrible gas, but then lots and lots of things do! Hope you get some chip relief soon! They can take away bread, cookies and cake, but it would have been much worse if they took away chips!! (For me,...
  3. I have my Chinese cookbooks and recipes and just use them substituting gluten-free soy sauce and gluten-free teriyaki sauce. Some recipes I can't make as they call for gluten ingredients but Pepper Steak, Beef and Broccoli, and some like that are fine. I need to find a way to make Kung Pao Chicken though as my recipe calls for Black Bean Sauce, Chili Paste...
  4. I'm off to get my hair done today and as an afterthought packed my L'Oreal shampoo and conditioner in case the salon doesn't have gluten-free shampoo. My hairdresser hates me to use drug store products but that's too bad. We do what we have to do. Then I'm going to ge my acrylic nails filled. Do you think the nail glue can hurt us? Am I going to far to worry...
  5. I have spent a lot of time contacting shampoo companies and here are my findings. All Garnier Fructis products are gluten free. L'Oreal is gluten-free also, Dove would list it on the label if it's there and wouldn't hide it under a chemical name. It would say wheat. The Redken and Euforia ones clearly are marked wheat. So I gave all my expensive stuff to...
  6. I've been drinking Sky Vodka as I saw it on a "safe list" and have had no ill reactions. I also contacted Glenffidich and Famous Grouse scotch distilleries and was informed that they were distilled 3 or more times and all traces of glutin were removed. I have been drinking the Famous Grouse and have had no reactions at all. I am very sensitive too. The wisest...
  7. Almost all vinegars are safe except those that are malt vinegars. Some salad dressings use malt vinegars. MSG is supposedly ok if made in the US but will appear on most avoid lists for celiacs as many react to it. I know I sure do! I have found Better than Bouillon brand to work great when chicken broth or bouillion is needed in a recipe. I called them and...
  8. I've been curious about the same thing. My dad passed away at 56 from Pancreatic cancer. I can remember him having indigestion every night and miserable stomach problems. He was not thin, though. However I've been diagnosed through the blood tests with Celiac Disease and wonder if perhaps I inherited it from him? Perhaps he had it all along and undiagnosed...
  9. Hi! You might want to check what kind of vinegar the pickles are in, does the hamburger contain fillers, does the Herb Ox bouillon contain MSG, Kasha cereal is made from Buckwheat but may be processed in a factory that produces wheat products on the same lines, and make sure the apple cider vinegar is not "flavored " but is really apple cider vinegar. Perhaps...

    ARCHIVED Hi From Me

The restaurants here in Seattle have been incredible! I have my gluten free dining card which I laminated at Kinkos and last night the chef came to my table 4 times! They usually poach my salmon as that requires a special pan, and give me veggies and a salad. Last night the chef fried me some potatos and onions in the same pan as he backed my fish. For breakfast...

    ARCHIVED Hi From Me

I'm traveling this week and all meals are being eaten in a restaurant. The servers and chefs have bent over backward to accomodate me and I haven't gotten sick at all. Yet. But, I am nervous about it.
