    ARCHIVED Red Robin

HPP is hyrolized plant protein and HVP is hydrolized vegetable protein. When that is the only ingredient on the bottle, as in Red Robin's seasonings, you don't know if it is from wheat or barley or malt or anything else we can't have. There were a lot of ingredients listed and after reading them I asked if they could make the fries unseasoned but he said...
  2. I am so glad you brought this up! Since going gluten-free my hands will sometimes turn almost purple, usually when I'm doing dishes, but often it just happens. When I type on the keyboard, like right now, they get so cold I can't bear it. And yes, they are very pale. I googled red palms and got "liver disease". Great. They get real cold driving also. I don...
  3. Be careful with Aidells. Only some of their sausages are gluten-free. They will say gluten-free right on the package, If it doesn't. don't buy it. Shadybrook Farms hot Italian sausage is great! So is Jimmy Dean's sage sausage for stuffings. Healthy Choice sausage links are good too if you can find them!
  4. I've had millet in it's natural form, not in bread. I made stuffed peppers with it and tonight used it in place of barley when I made split pea soup. I've never tried the bread, but the millet itself used as I have used it, is great and my ultra sensitive self has had nothing but a quiet tummy.
  5. I eat popcorn at the movie theatre but always get it plain without the butter sauce. It's been fine. At home I make popcorn with an air popper and either spray it with butter flavor Pam or with I Can't Believe it's Not Butter spray. Works for me!

    ARCHIVED Red Robin

Red Robin's seasoning that they use contains both HVP and HPP on its ingredients. When I went there I asked about the french fries too but was given a red flag. All they could give me was a plain burger and a small salad. They were very nice though and the burger wrapped in lettuce was good. Still, I was dissapointed about the french fries too! I have since...
  7. Had lunch at Champs in Reston today. I had called them a few months ago and gotten a response that they couldn't do gluten free. Went there anyway today and the gm Kevin was great! I had a Greek salad with their dressing and the whole thing was gluten free. He said they work well with food intolerances and whoever talked to me previously was in error. He...
  8. Isn't it Logans Roadhouse that won't have a gluten-free menu? That was my understanding, that Logans, Applebees and Ruby Tuesday won't play ball. Maybe it is different in every state.
  9. I had the peppercorn steak salad only without any sauce. I used my own salad dressing that I carry with me. I never use restaurant salad dressings or barbeque sauces, or any sauce at all for that matter. Better to be safe than sorry. I do encourage olive oil and fresh herbs and ground pepper, etc.
  10. I eat Lundberg's rice cakes. They are much heavier than quaker and are delicious! I too, make my ricewiches, with mayo, coldcuts, tomato and melt cheese on the top. Beats a rice bread sandwich any day! The Lundberg rice cakes do have 70 calories, compared to Quakers 35, but they are nice good healthy calories. They have flavors like Wild rice, brown rice...
  11. I ate at the Longhorn in Chantilly Virginia and had a wonderful experience! The manager went back and cleaned the grill himself before cooking my food. They were gracious and understanding and I will definitely eat there again!
  12. Deb, I went to Whole Foods yesterday and bought 2 mayos. They are made by Spectrum and have our favorite words "gluten free" on their labels. One is light and eggless and vegan and the other is full fat. They are both made with Canola Oil. I had egg salad on a corn cake for breakfast this morning with the light one, and it rocked. There is life after...
  13. What exactly does hydrolized mean? I thought the danger lay in there.
  14. My lunch plans were just canceled so I found a can of Progresso Split Pea and Ham Soup. I know they list all ingredients so after opening the can, like a dummy, I read the ingredients and found hydrolized corn gluten. Now I know corn gluten is fine but hydrolized plant protein and hydrolized vegetable protein aren't. What about hydrolized corn gluten? Frankly...
  15. Smart Beat Mayo has no soy and only 10 calories! Trader Joe's Tuna has no broth or soy, just water and salt. Smart Bear margerine is fine too as is real butter. I try to avoid soy as best I can except for when a recipe needs soy sauce. Soy sauce, for some reason, doesn't bother me. Good luck~
  16. Celiacfreeman, I'm going in January also! I'll be there for almost 3 weeks working . I've made arrangements with my hotel to prepare gluten-free meals. They've asked me for a menu for 5 days and will alternate it for me. They are even buying pots and pans for my food to be sure to avoid cross contamination. Some celiac friendly restaurants include the one...

    ARCHIVED Mcdonalds - Beware

I've been finding restaurants where they get my hopes up by saying yes, they have a dedicated fryer for their fries. Then, they drop the bombshell that they flour the french fries before frying them to give them that nice little crunch. So, number one on my Christmas list is a deep fat fryer so I can make my own! I'm even going to try to make a bloomin onion...
  18. We went to Outback yesterday and I asked for their gluten free menu and was told it wasn't a menu, but a guide. It was long and I checked the salad dressings and they said on the menu all were gluten free. Then on the bottom I noticed that the date from the printout was 2003. The printout was the same that I had gotten a long time ago from the internet. I...
  19. I contacted them as I drink it and they said it is fine.
  20. If people start complaining, they may do away with their gluten-free menu altogether. That's what happened with Bennigans. So, please, think it through before you do.
  21. I order the small packets from the Gluten Free Pantry. You can buy just one or as many as you want. They have lots of flavors and cost about 72 cents each. I'll be away on business for 3 weeks so just ordered a whole slew of them to cart along. Like you, oil and vinegar is boring most of the time!
  22. My son wrote Jack Daniels and emailed me their reply stating that they are gluten free. It didn't matter to him that I prefer Makers Mark (also gluten-free) but to him life without Jack would be the pits. So, enjoy your Jack and yes most Vodka is fine. Contact the company first to make sure, but I know Skyy is okay. Cheers! Be sure to stay away from beer...
  23. Our Christmas party for 450 is also at a restaurant. Imagine my delight when one of the planners told me that they had requested a gluten free meal for me! It kinda helped that her sister-in-law is a Celiac, but I am very thrilled. I went to a wedding last month and the caterer provided me with a gluten free dinner and the rest of the 200 plus people went...
  24. I would call the restaurant and see if their burgers are gluten-free. Then I would bring a gluten-free bun and put his burger on it. I would also bring a bag of chips so he could have a burger and chips and the others can have a burger and fries. That way he would not feel so very different. I would encourage him to go as he should not begin a life of isolation...
  25. I went out with a group of co-workers today for lunch. Originally we were going to Chipolte but it was very crowded so we opted for California Pizza Kitchen. I knew from my research that all their soups and salad dressings had gluten but that a plain field greens salad would work. I talked to the Manager and he said the field green salad comes with pears...
