I ate in one in Harrisonburg Virginia a year ago. The manager came out and assured me they would work with me to give me a gluten free steak salad. The waitress came to me later and said she was studying to be a nutritionist and that she was worried about cross contamination. She said their kitchen was tiny and there were bread crumbs everywhere. Sure enough...

Wellness cat food says no wheat on the bag. I have animals too, and must always remember to wash up after giving them a cookie. I also have a purple sponge which I use to wash their bowls and eating areas. I use Wellness for dry food but also feed them canned food so I'm touching the stuff twice a day plus treat time. I just wash my hands real well. Gloves...

ARCHIVED Mary's Gone Crackers
terri replied to micheleph's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat them all the time. They are my favorites. Perhaps you're reacting to the flax seed or the soy or another ingredient in them. In any case, your body is telling you no, so you should listen and stop eating them. Try Edwards and Sons. They have a strict no gluten policy written on their website and their crackers are tested and retested. They have a flavor... -
Be careful that they don't handle a flour tortilla and then pick up your lettuce with the same hands. You might want to ask for a clean pair of gloves. If you go on their website they mention how the risk for cross contamination is strong. I ate there once with no problem but I was the first one through the door when it opened and thus had the "clean glove...

ARCHIVED Safe Liquids

Sheltons has a canned chicken broth sold at Whole Foods that is gluten free. I like it because they have a low sodium one. -
ARCHIVED Laundry Detergent
terri replied to KatieWI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Katie, Welcome to the board. I have never given laundry soap a thought. The clothes go through the rinse cycle, and you don't put them in your mouth.... I don't think it should be a concern. For fabric softeners, I use Downy liquid or Bounce dryer sheets. Once again, I don't think it's something to worry about. Good question, though! -
I get the same reaction as Jen and have eliminated it from my diet. I should say I've ALMOST eliminated it from my diet. I use the wheat free Tamari sauce in my oriental cooking and I guess that has soy....but it's worth the gurgle!

ARCHIVED Delicious Crunchy Sweet Snack
terri replied to skbird's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I LOVE Mrs. Mays snacks! They are great. I've had the Black Sesame and the walnut one. I plan on taking them on vacation. They're a great healthy pick me up!! I got mine in a health food store. I'm glad to hear that Costco carries them. They are bound to be cheaper there. -
I'm so glad you didn't eat that bacon! The Kirkland (Costco) maple flavored bacon has gluten (I called them) so it's my bet that the Sam's Club maple flavored bacon does too! I think sometimes when in-laws or even close friends hear about our diagnosis and lifestyle adjustment that they get irritated because they feel bad for us. That, and they have to...

ARCHIVED Discrimination - Glutein-free
terri replied to Dittenheim's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I have had 2 restaurants flat out refuse to serve me, and another yell at me about me suing them if I got sick. I just deal with it, and put a nice big post on the board warning other Celiacs. Then, I get on with my life. For every nasty restaurant, there are at least 50 that will bend over backwards for you. I spend 6 weeks a year traveling and eating 3... -
ARCHIVED Advice On Speaking To A Nutritionist & Salad Bars
terri replied to elonwy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You'll get used to it in time. I went down to the cafeteria yesterday and stood in line to get a bottle of tea and all around me were baked goods and sandwiches being made, and steak and cheeses being grilled, lasagna being dished out and I wasn't even fazed. Instead, I was scoping out the bananas and apples! That's what happens after a year in this lifestyle... -

ARCHIVED Advice On Speaking To A Nutritionist & Salad Bars
terri replied to elonwy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As to your question about the safety of salad bars, as you pointed out they have bins of croutons and chow mein noodles. Some people will use the scoop for croutons and then grab something else and it gets crumbs in it as well. Also, when the servers prepared the salad bar, did they pick up the croutons and then pick up some lettuce, or zucchini with the... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Eat This Frozen Rice Bread?
terri replied to julie5914's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When I order bread or buy it at Whole Foods, as soon as I get it, I take little pieces of wax paper and put one between each slice. Then I freeze the whole thing as a loaf. That way it is never stuck together. I also do that with the hot dog and hamburger buns. Of course, it won't work with the Red Bhutanese bread that you buy frozen. With that I get out... -
ARCHIVED High Then Low Body Temperature?
terri replied to lainie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not a child (far from it) however I had a gluten incident night before last and had the same symptoms. I would be burning up and then shivering cold. So, I feel it could be a gluten reaction. I would have a physician check her out though. -
ARCHIVED Glutten Free Shampoo
terri replied to irish's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The concern is that the suds wash down your face and get on your mouth and hands and face and could be transferred to food or whatever and you would be exposed to gluten. So, yes, you should be careful of soap, shampoo and conditioner. Sorry. -
ARCHIVED New Gf Cookies
terri replied to T-Crews's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Taylor, Welcome to the Board! Those cookies look very yummy! I can't wait to try them. It's always good to hear of a new gluten-free treat. Thanks! Terri -
Great news! Thanks! I just ordered some gluten-free sweet and sour sauce. Could have saved a bundle!

ARCHIVED Mike's Hard Lemonade
terri replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here is the reply I received from Mike's Hard Lemonade. Thank you for taking the time to contact mike's hard lemonade. Mike's products available in the US are lemon clear malt based ( fermented barley beer malt) beverages. In independent lab analysis mike's products do not contain any traces of gluten protein, however, our products are bottled in multiple... -
I've been having horrible problems with my eyes for the last few months so I broke down and went to the eye doctor and get this, he says my vision is IMPROVING and that is why everything is blurry! I can't believe it. I've had glasses and contacts my whole life and my eyesight only got worse. So now it's better? I get my new lenses tomorrow (the new weaker...

ARCHIVED Curious
terri replied to ShortStuff2309's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Never. If cross contamination can make me so ill, I shudder to think what a piece of bread. or pie, or whatever would do to me! And, if it did nothing, I shudder to think what THAT would do to my psyche! No, I've finally forgotten what "bread" tastes like, and actually raved over my gluten-free Irish Soda Bread tonight! -
I am sorry you got sick. I don't believe it is a good idea to ever eat prepared food at any Supermarket or airport or wherever as you don't know the conditions under which it was prepared. It is different than ordering in a restaurant where you tell them to be careful and avoid cross contamination. That is why Whole Foods has a list and a pamplet of their...

ARCHIVED Tropicana
terri replied to Emme999's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yours are the safe ones. The ones I was buying didn't say Pure Premium, just Tropicana 100% orange juice from concentrate. I called Splenda and they said their product is gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Tropicana
terri replied to Emme999's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks so much for posting that. I buy cases of Tropicana at Costco in the small bottles. They say 100% orange juice from concentrate so I always assumed that they were just that. So, now I looked closely and saw "natural flavors" . Great! I've been drinking them weekly for over a year now. The Premuim Tropicana says "not from concentrate". I guess that...
