  1. I was at Costco this week and noticed a case of Sparkling Ice which is sparkling spring water with flavors and a full days worth of vitamin C. It is sweetened by Splenda and has only 3 calories. So I called the company right then and there and they said all their products are gluten free. So, jumping up and down and squealing in Costco, I bought a case and...
  2. It's funny how doctors are so different. My blood tests were positive and I asked if he was going to do a biopsy. He said only if my symptoms did not go away. He also had told me the true test is how I felt on a gluten free diet as Celiac does not always show up in blood tests or biopsies. And he's an Internist, not even a GI doctor! So, in my opinion,...
  3. I buy the UTZ individual bags, that way I don't have to worry about him eating his sandwich and reaching in the potato chip bag! UTZ has a whole page on their website dedicated to Celiac disease and I've never had any problem with their chips. Another one that is good is Cape Cod. They will appear on almost all the gluten-free lists.
  4. Hi, I'm sorry to hear you're so distressed but can certainly understand why! Diarrhea, abdominal pain, weight loss, those are "classic" Celiac symptoms. They are now finding that people with "classic" symptoms are actually in the minority! You do not need to be losing weight or having diarrhea. You can be constipated, have headaches, there is a multitude...
  5. I hope you do too! I had the Chang's Lemon Scallops and they were great! I also tasted the Chang's Spicy Chicken and that was wonderful too! Just don't get the flavored tea and be sure to tell them you're a Celiac. I can't wait to go back!
  6. I made a pitcher with a can of limeade, 2/3 can of tequilla and 1/2 can of triple sec. Add ice and blend in the blender. YUMMY! I've made them twice and had zero reaction. Triple Sec is made from oranges. Now I don't recomend buying a Margarita "mix" that could have nasties in it, but I used Food Lion Limeade and it worked fine. Cheers!
  7. I am interested in hearing more about the bruising. My thigh is covered with a huge one, my knee has one and 2 more on the other leg and I have absolutely no idea where they came from. I don't take ibuprofin, or aspirin. When I was on Celebrex a few years ago I woke up with 13 bruises on my body, even my stomach and my doctor said it was spontaneous bruising...
  8. I'd put my money on the tea! They're really careful but there is always a risk of cross contamination. Try again and order a coke and see what happens. Good luck!
  9. I think with time we forget how the real stuff tastes, and the rice stuff starts to taste better and better. The best bread I found is Buthanese Red Rice Bread at Whole Foods. I can actually halfway enjoy it! The worst is that Tapioca bread. Yech! I made a gluten-free banana bread and it turned out wonderful. That's one I'll keep! And Betty's french bread...
  10. Good for you Karen! We're all relieved and happy for you. I used to take those gasx pills too and always wondered why I felt worse afterwards. So, I started backing them up with Tums and THAT sure didn't help! Since I went gluten-free I've been too afraid to take anything. Well, keep us posted, we're all rooting for you!
  11. I read that the only Stoneyfield yogurt we can have is their plain yogurt. Perhaps the vanilla yogurt caused the reaction? Also, was the mayo light? I had a reaction to Kraft light mayo. Could you be pregnant? Or maybe you have a stomach virus. I hope you feel better soon!
  12. Dana, I'm allergic to lanolin and when I use soaps or lotions that contain it I break out in a rash and it's very itchy. You might want to check the ingredients for that. Also Ivory soap breaks me out. With all the chemicals they put in everything it's a wonder we're all not scatching!
  13. Thanks for the info. What he said could apply to any restaurant anywhere. If they pick up rolls and place them in a bread basket, and then make your salad without changing their gloves, you're contaminated. I have to travel on a 3 week business trip next January and I'm already losing sleep thinking about it! Guess I'll load up on medicine and hope for the...
  14. Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience! We take a risk everytime we eat out, for even with a gluten-free menu the risk of cross contamination runs very high. I had a similar experience on a business trip. The chef had fed me 2 other meals and knew my requirements but bingo, a reaction like yours, very bad news... If the kitchen help touches bread and...
  15. I've been gluten-free for 4 months now and notice heartburn and disrupted sleep patterns. Also the gas problem is still there but so much less than before! Before it was chronic and uncontrollable. My family cheered when I went gluten-free and the air cleared . But it does take 6 months to 2 years to really heal at my age, so I'm not complaining. If I accidently...

    ARCHIVED Salad Bars

Thanks for the input everyone. You're absolutely right. It's a big risk and I guess that goes for the ones in the grocery store that are so convenient for a quick and easy dinner. This to me is the hardest part of the disease, the risk of cross contaminiation, whether it's in a restaurant's kitchen, your friend's kitchen or even your own child's kitchen....

    ARCHIVED Salad Bars

I ate lunch at a small deli that has a big salad bar and a hot bar and a separate area where they make sandwiches and wraps. All I took was some spinach, romaine, hard boiled egg, broccoli, carrots, mango, kiwi, melon. I brought my own tomatoes from my garden, my own tuna and my own dressing. Still got sick. Am still having pains in my tummy and have had...
  18. Hi everyone, I'm Terri and in my early fifties (ouch!). I'm married with 2 children, one grandchild, 1 cat, 1 dog and assorted fish. I grew up with horrible skin rashes on my arms, buttocks, sometimes chest , and often legs which they attributed to chocolate. However, even without chocolate they were still there! I "seemed" to grow out of it in my twenties...
  19. I just got off the phone with Lever 2000 bodywash. They are a Unilever company and follows the guidelines where if there is any oat, barley, wheat or rye present in any of their products, it would be clearly listed on the label as such. It would not be hidden under some chemical sounding name. Unilever also owns Lipton and Ragu and the same applies to them...
  20. Here is the response I received from A TASTE OF THAI Dear T: We offer a print-out of all our gluten-free ingredients at Open Original Shared Link Hope that helps! Charles Landrey It's worth going to that site as they have a lot of products we can have. Also, I called YOPLAIT and was told all of their yogurts are gluten-free, even...
  21. Had my luncheon today at Tyson's McCormicks and Schmidts. The waitress was Donna who told me she knew all about Celiac disease. Angel, you taught them well! And they do have a fire grill. I had salmon (no seasoning) over romaine and used my Annie's dressing and am fine. I understand you can order the steak salad and substitute shrimp. That will be my next...
  22. I bought Annies from the Gluten free mall or the gluten free pantry. I carry them in my purse. I also work and found that the women I used to go out to lunch with I now tell them I'll go out to shop at lunchtime instead. I also take a yoga class twice a week at lunch and go out to eat maybe twice a month. Being sick at work stinks! Also there are so many...
  23. Thanks for the warning about the Lever. I guess that goes to my husband too, along with all the expensive shampoos and conditioners! Will use Dove or is TONE liquid okay, do you know? Thanks!
  24. Angel, I took your advice and went to Don Pablos and had a great lunch. The manager came out and talked with me and was wonderful. Another place I have eaten from is WingN. They don't sell anything breaded at all so their fryers only have french fries and wings entering them. I get the fire wings and fries and have never reacted in the slightest (and it doesn...
  25. Lindam I called Dove and they told me over the phone that it was fine. I use Dove, Garnier Fructus and Pantene ( I like variety) and bring my own when going to the salon. I use Lever 2000 bodywash. I read the label and it looks okay, Keri Lotion or Suave ( which are gluten-free (Suave read label first) ). Hang in there! Terri
