It's been happening to me too. My "last visit" date has been stuck since about the 10th also.

ARCHIVED School Carnival Nightmarezarfkitty posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I'm so angry!!! We went to our daughter's school carnival today. We were having a really great time (face paint, dunking booth, moon walk, etc). I was working her homeroom's booth while she and her dad walked around to enjoy the fair. All of the sudden, there was a rush of boys and a bunch of white dust where they were waiting in line. One of the...

ARCHIVED Too Much Pee?zarfkitty replied to Collinsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Everyone in my family had a "pee-fest" shortly after going gluten-free. I'm not sure why but it went away on its own. I also have a "pee-fest" a couple weeks after a glutening after the digestive symptoms have stopped.

ARCHIVED Lays Original-survey!zarfkitty replied to Arpita's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications On the advice of someone I met in my local support group, I only eat Frito-Lay products from the Plano, TX plant. She says she has never been glutened by the Plano equipment but she has been glutened by Frito-Lay products in other areas of the country when she travels. Frito-Lay prints which plant the product came from on the bag. My family hasn't reacted...

ARCHIVED Am I Being Too Controlling?zarfkitty replied to megsbaby's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I agree with what everyone said. And I wanted to point out that sometimes it can take a Really Long Time for parents to let go of their parental roles (and the feeling of control parenting gives them). It took my MIL forever-and-a-half to stop buying underwear for my husband. I mean geez! I can't understand why, but it's really common for people to...

ARCHIVED Whole Foods 365 Brand Gluten-free Cookie Mixzarfkitty replied to zarfkitty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Well I tried the 365 gluten free muffin mix this morning for breakfast. I added frozen blueberries to it but otherwise followed the instructions on the box. It had a good texture but I think it needs sugar. Of course that would be a personal decision. I'd buy it again, but I'd tinker with it. -Shannon

I think it does vary by restaurant. I went to Red Robin with extended family in August in the DFW area. The fries were NOT in a dedicated fryer so I ordered melon as a side dish instead. -Shannon

ARCHIVED Whole Foods 365 Brand Gluten-free Cookie Mixzarfkitty posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I'm not sure if it's news here or not (probably not!) but Whole Foods has released a 365 gluten-free dry mix line. When I heard about it, I popped over to my nearest Whole Foods and picked up one of everything, except the sandwich bread mix because it has dairy. I made and served the chocolate chip cookie mix to gluten-eater guests this evening. It was...

ARCHIVED Detox Clay Drinkszarfkitty replied to Julie-uk-nz's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Bentonite won't hurt you. Having said that, I think mucoid plaque is a myth. They give you a bunch of stuff to swallow and all the sudden you get a strange gelatinous mold of your colon in the toilet? I think the gelatinous mold came from the supplement rather than the supplement helping you get rid of mucoid plaque. You can get your colon squeaky clean...

It came out of a Gatorade brand jug on the sideline of a football game. One of the players told me it was actually powerade. I didn't worry at the time because Coca Cola says all their stuff is gluten free.

So I'm in the midst of a glutening as is my DD. Here's what's been different (only Friday had anything different about it): My husband and I teach high school. Last Friday's pep-rally was in the auditorium, which is a really big room (at least as big as a big city movie theater room). We were standing at the back wall of the auditorium, keeping kids...

ARCHIVED Enterolab Positive - Blood Work Negative!zarfkitty replied to mykidsmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I agree with everything EBsMom said! I also wanted to add that it seems to me that blood is a very changeable substance that is constantly being filtered out and remade. A number of things can change what's in a person's bloodstream at any given moment. Feces, however, well... unless someone is in the middle of a bout of diarrhea, feces sits there and...

ARCHIVED Casein And Enterolab Questionzarfkitty replied to holiday16's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I'm probably the dissenting voice here. I'm off casein currently and I'm being as strict about it as the gluten. But I plan to challenge dairy after a year or two. This article gives me hope that it could possibly turn out in my favor: study shows 61% of casein-intolerant patients can develop casein tolerance I have seen research linking casein intolerance...

ARCHIVED Enterolab Costs?zarfkitty replied to mama2two's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I have blue cross/blue shield PPO (in Texas). Enterolab is covered at out-of-network rates for me. Here's the zinger: my out-of-network benefits don't kick in until I've spent $1000 of my own money at that provider. That's not even counting deductible. So I had to self-pay. Having said all that, it was TOTALLY WORTH IT! I got confirmation that gluten...

ARCHIVED Food Storage Containerszarfkitty replied to houseofboys's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Hi there! When I "de-glutened" my kitchen, I threw away plastics and woods. I kept my aluminum pots and pans but replaced teflon coated ones. I also replaced my colander. I can't say for sure that plastic harbors gluten, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'm sure someone who knows with more certainty will chime in. I think you're safe with uncoated...

ARCHIVED Thanksgiving With Il'szarfkitty replied to moonlitemama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease After some very insensitive behavior at the last gathering with my in-laws, I've decided that I'm doing a Gluten-free Casein-free Thanksgiving dinner at my own house. I'm going to do it full out, no expense spared. And I'm going to be able to eat everything that I see. I'm inviting anyone that wants to come to come. I explained to my in-laws that...

My little girl did this a lot last year. She really did get sick the first time and bonded with the caring, nurturing nurse. After that she wanted to go back again and again and would tell little fibs to get the TLC she wanted. I teach high school, and I can honestly say there are "frequent flyers" in high school for the same reason. I got her to stop...

ARCHIVED Oh No, Not A Newbie!zarfkitty replied to AnObstinateOne's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I think the mainstream medical focus on DQs 2 & 8 isn't really on target with actual clinical reality. Several threads have come up here about people with "gold standard" diagnoses who are negative for "celiac genes." So if it were me, I'd ignore the "negative" gene test. My daughters symptoms started after potty training, so it has never been "in...

ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Try Eating At Whataburger?zarfkitty replied to Sarah8793's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants I used to love Whataburger, but I haven't tried them since going gluten-free. From what I can tell on their website, their beef patties are safe, but their french fries have CC risk because they also make onion rings. Are you sure your Whataburger location uses different oil vats for fries and onion rings? If you're sure it's only fries, I'd say it's safe...

ARCHIVED Bento Box Saves School Lunch! Onigiri Rocks!zarfkitty replied to zarfkitty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs from laptop lunch website: 11. I have heard that some plastics can cause health problems. Should I be concerned about that? * At Obentec, Inc. we are extremely concerned about toxins in our food and in the environment. Thus we take great care to ensure that we use the safest materials available. For this reason we manufacture our lunch containers...

My daughter and I made this up as we went along today. It was really good! 1/2 cup shortening 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup white sugar 2 brown bananas 2 eggs 1 tsp vanilla 1/2 cup gluten free flour 1/2 cup flax seed meal 1/2 cup cornstarch pinch of salt 1 tsp xanthan gum Cream together shortening and sugars. Add bananas and mix well. Add...
