ARCHIVED Gluten, Dairy And Sugar Free Cake
lob6796 replied to momandgirls's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just wanted to agree with Julie. My entire maternal side of the family has diabetes and they all can eat sugar "in moderation". So one slice of cake would be ok - as long as her family knows ahead of time there is sugar in it. -
ARCHIVED Problems With My Mouth
lob6796 replied to Elaine Allen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My mouth does the same thing and I get what I can only describe as ulcers on my lips as well. My doctor said it is from the Celiac. He said it would get better once I stop eating gluten. But like a PP said, if you have other food allergies, one of those could be causing it as well. -
If you spend over 7.5% of your gross adjusted income on unreimbursed medical expenses (which include the 20% most people pay whenever they have a procedure done, all copays for prescriptions/visits, etc) then you can claim that as a deduction on your taxes. If you have celiac, you can also deduct the difference between what you would have spent on an item...

ARCHIVED Help Reading My Results
lob6796 replied to CarRan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes they seem quite high, but celiac (from what I know) is either a you have it or you dont type of thing. there is no "bad celiac" or "mild celiac". So your results just mean you have Celiac. A GI is the right way to go, get some biopsies and find out about the damage. Then go on the diet. And feel better -
Terri do you have more information on that diet? I heard something once before about it and it was interesting to me. And to everyone who responded - thank you for all of your kind words and advice. I will research the different eating plans you've mentioned!

My daughter is on state health insurance. I just reviewed her labs that her doctor did, and he DID do age appropriate tests, and they were negative. I know she has an issue though, because she was vomiting constantly and when I stopped adding cereal to her bottle (doctor ordered for reflux) the vomiting is very rare. But, she continues to have stomach cramping...

I sent an email the other day asking about gluten content in their food. The letter I recieved back today said that "due to their ever changing menu and recipes" they couldn't tell me what was gluten free or not. They would be happy to give me the ingredient list for specific items if I request them individually. (But that the recipe for that item could change...

In the US you get a tax relief if you have a positive biopsy. And for some with horrendous medical bills, it is worth it. I am still trying to make the decision myself whether or not to keep eating gluten until my biopsy. On one hand, I know I would feel so much better if I stopped the gluten. On the other, the biopsy would give me some more definitive answers...

ARCHIVED Building My Gluten Free Recipe Box
lob6796 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'd love for everyone to share a favorite gluten free recipe. Doesn't matter if it is bread, dinner or dessert - I need to build up my new recipe book. Thanks in advance! -
ARCHIVED Facial Splotching, Paleness, Puffiness
lob6796 replied to grey's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh yeah, defiently can be. I used to have great skin. Now as things have gotten worse symptom wise with the celiac, my face is puffy, horrid red rash patches on it, cruddy texture, etc. Its awful. I'm looking forward to looking more "even" once I am on the diet. -
I'm wondering, since I will be going on a gluten free diet and overhauling the way I eat anyway, is there anything that people can recommend? I have never eaten healthy in my entire life. Junk food ruled, dinner was probably my only healthy meal in that I always had a meat, starch, veggie. I'd like to transform the entire way I eat to be healthier. I would...

Do you have to freeze it? We are big sandwich/toast people. Could we just leave it out? -
ARCHIVED Wait Or Take A Different Route?
lob6796 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I got the letter today with my appointment for the GI specialist. My CONSULT with him is scheduled for Aug 23!!! So I would have to wait for the consult, then he is going to order more blood work, wait for those results, have another consult, then schedule the biopsy, then go to the followup appt, and THEN I can go gluten free. I could be looking at not being... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Meal... Got Sick..
lob6796 replied to lob6796's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hmmm I will blame the beef then. I think my big fear from this reaction was "oh god, don't tell me something they used to make the gluten free bun/fries is giving me a reaction too!". I normally try to avoid steak because of the reaction, I will add ground meat to my list now too. I handle chicken just fine, so I'll stick to that. Thanks for the responces -
ARCHIVED Got Blood Test Results - No Idea What They Mean!
lob6796 replied to Lissa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Is it possible for you to get a second opinion? Where I live, and IgA of higher than 2.9 is a complete positive diagnosis of celiac, and an IgG of over 10 is a probable diagnosis of celiac with a follow biopsy ordered to confirm. Do you live in Canada? I'm just wondering because of the 16 month wait for a GI. The one downside to healthcare for everyone is... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Meal... Got Sick..
lob6796 replied to lob6796's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, no I didn't expect I would feel *better* - I was just puzzled as to why (and I had nothing else to eat before or after until I had been home over an hour) I had such a bad stomach reaction to the food and then was going to the bathroom with blood in it - that has never happened to me before. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Meal... Got Sick..
lob6796 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm still on gluten food until my biopsy, but I want to try different gluten free foods so once I am given the "go ahead", I will have some that I know I like. I went and had my "first" gluten free meal today, and about halfway through, my stomach started its tricks. I didn't want to finish it at that point, so I stopped eating the meal. I did grab dessert... -
Rafferty's Restaurant is holding a meeting May 30th at 7pm at their restaurant in North Conway, NH. They are supposed to be having different speakers including a doctor, plus gluten free food samples and other product displays. They have also invited the surrounding area support groups to come. I am hoping (and so are they) that a White Mountain area support...

I was just diagnosed with Celiac disease. Now that I am reading on the subject, I see all of this stuff saying people who are Celiac lose weight. As a child I was always significantly underweight. Now in the last 5 years I have become about 40-50lbs OVERWEIGHT. My daughter (who I suspect has Celiac) was vomiting 1-3 times a day, 5 days a week, and she was...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed - How To Work With My Family?
lob6796 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was just diagnosed as celiac from my blood tests, going for the biopsies soon. I am becoming more overwhelmed the more I read (not just bread but maybe my shampoo, pots, pans and medications as well???). I've decided to take baby steps with this. My family is very supportive. They are all going (at least mostly) gluten free as well to support me. This is...
