  1. I am amazed that your 7 month old sleeps through the night at all!!!! My 16 month old still wakes twice a night to nurse. I say YEAH for any sleep at all!!! Good luck figuring it out.
  2. yup- the tops of my feet is a place I commonly get blisters.
  3. It sounds like DH to me. I have biopsy diagnosed DH and mine usually does not mirror itself. Right now- whenever I get glutened I get DH on the fingers of my left hand only. It is pretty weird. Also- It took me 5 months to clear up after going gluten-free but CC makes it spring up every now and then. It is BEYOND frustrating!
  4. I have been vegetarian since 1991 and gluten-free since June. In some ways I think being a vegetarian made the transition easier. I already was comfortable reading labels and scrutinizing everything I ate. I was accustomed to having to pass things up at parties and restaurants. I already had discipline over my diet and for many people that is the big...
  5. That is so exciting! My mom just bought my family and I year passes. Looks like we will be going down there a lot if they are so gluten-free friendly!
  6. It is my DS's 3rd birthday on Friday. He is gluten-free/CF. Where are some great places to eat? Are there any places we can't miss? Thanks Mere
  7. Welcome! You came to the right place. This board is an amazing hub of celiac information. I have learned so much in my 8 months here. I too am a vegetarian celiac. I believe mine turned on during my first pregnancy but I only found out in June. We are trying to find out if my oldest is celiac too. Just curious- how did your baby get her diagnosis?...
  8. I am a diagnosed celiac. My almost 3 y/o son is a big question mark. His blood panel was negative at 2.5 years- but I have learned online that this is almost to be expected. His symptoms are multiple food allergies, 5% for weight, and eczema. I have made him gluten free with me but I really want to figure out if this is warranted. Should I try enterolab...
  9. I don't think you need to have been pregnant to get an IUD. I think that is the old train of thought. Check with your OBGYN. I loved my Paraguard. It is completely non-hormonal! Open Original Shared Link
  10. How old are your kids? I asked this question a few weeks back because I have very little ones who are very messy. I did decide to make the family gluten-free and my DH is MUCH better. Go figure? Here is the link: Open Original Shared Link
  11. One last one: Take a breastfeeding class or buy a breastfeeding book and know where to get lactation support if you need it. Believe it or not BFing can be challenging in the beginning. It isn't always easy at first but the more prepared you are the better you will fare. Once you get past the newborn stress BFing can be the most beautiful thing for both...
  12. I am so happy for you!!!! There is nothing more exciting than expecting your first baby. Enjoy these months. You will remember them fondly for the rest of your life. My advice: *Keep a good journal and enjoy all the twists and turns. *Get a comprehensive pregnancy manual and learn what is happening to your body each step of the way....
  13. I don't cheat. I have been CC'd but I have never intentionally consumed gluten since I started the diet. I did have a goodbye gluten meal (pizza and brownie cheesecake) the day before I started the diet- but if I knew then what I know now about celiac I certainly would not have done it. When I got my diagnosis I read everything I could get my hands...
  14. I think that the recall is why they are giving me the run around and trying to cover their backsides. We didn't have that exact flavor involved in the recall- the flavor we had did list milk on the label. I chose to give it to my son because his only reaction in the past to milk was a mild rash. I chose that cracker because it was the only gluten-free...
  15. Please be wary of the company Back to Nature. We bought Rice Thins from them at Target two days ago and my son had an anaphylactic reaction. It most likely was the milk/cheese in them but my allergist also advised me to call them to clarify what their "natural flavor" was exactly. When I called yesterday it took a 20 minute CYA run around and being transferred...
  16. I only gave blood once. I was 20. I filled the bag in record time- passed out- and felt terrible for 2 days.
  17. I got a crock pot for Christmas and I am in love! YUM! You can make some fantastic stuff in there! I love the book: Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker. I also just foung the blog: Open Original Shared Link The book is not gluten free but you can make the changes needed. The blog is written by a woman who is gluten free though! LOVE IT...
  18. I think this is an important message! SOOOO many people here talk about learning their diagnosis after serious celiac complications have come about. Read Dangerous Grains if you need inspiration. If you have celiac you WILL be causing damage to your body by eating gluten. There are so many things that can be happening inside you that you are not aware...
  19. I became a vegetarian for ethical reasons when I was 12- way back in 1991. I have only been gluten free for 6 months. Sometimes I get really frustrated and wish I could eat meat again but vegetarianism has been a part of me for so long now that I just don't think I could do it. It is who I am and I still hold the values that made me become one in the first...
  20. This has turned into an interesting discussion. I think I am going to make this house mostly gluten free for the kids with the exceptions being on special occasions with special care given. My husband eats gluten and I have no problem with that because he can clean up after himself. Luckily, my kids are so young (3 and 1) that they won
  21. I am a celiac mother of two non-celiac toddlers (as far as I know). For those of you who have or have had babies and toddlers in your house you know how messy their eating can be. I am a stay at home mom and I prepare meals and clean up after them all day long. I do let them eat gluten and have to sweep and vacuum the crumbs. Is this dangerous for me...
  22. DH can only be confirmed with a skin biopsy. They find the IGA adjacent to the blisters. You have celiac if you have DH so no internal biopsy is needed. I also had a positive blood test as well.
  23. Thank you all for your advice. In his defense- I was never sick. I had DH and got a celiac diagnosis from a skin biopsy and a blood test. Celiac and all that it can bring is all theoretical for him. Reality is an itchy rash. The rest of it is probably hard for him to wrap his head around. I am thankful for him for reading the label and caring. ...
  24. My 2 year old son told my husband that he wanted to buy me chocolates for Christmas. Isn't that sweet!!!! This is the first gift that my son picked out. My husband took him to the mall and they got me a beautiful box of Godiva truffles. Well- my husband read the box 5 times to me sure and nothing looked like it contained gluten. I am proud that he worked...
  25. So I think that my celiac began with the birth of (or pregnancy with) my first child. I had DH for the first time 2 months postpartum and a freaky little GI episode/hospitalization 2 weeks postpartum. I read here and in books that this is common. Celiac is often turned on by a major event. What does that mean? Does that mean you have always been asymptomatic...
